The rating for online games does not mean a whole lot. Take Minecraft its rated E for everyone, but if you hop on a server like 2b2t. You find a gaming enviroment where that rating has been put in front of a firing squad shot multiple times, set on fire and thrown off a cliff screaming. On reading this thread I'm curious regarding the OP's opinion on the fact that the game encourages relationships between players. I see plenty of Enternal Bonding ceremony pictures on the various social media groups I'm in, and it's an easily accessable option with the ceremony having options ranging from 'free' to two Mogstation options with a fee.

Surely the same "chance you might be interacting with a child or a young teenager" applies to this scenario too?

It isn't possible for parents to be there 24/7 and personal responsibility does not suddenly go out the window just because someone would rather engage in erotic roleplay with strangers instead of taking the time to figure out if they're actually consenting adults or not.

I think a lot of people in this game's community will be in for quite the shock in the coming years if the internet and their activities throughout it become more tightly controlled, tracked and tied to some sort of 'social credit' system.

Something which may or may not happen though is certainly dangled as a possibility by those who desire it - and I guarantee that the creepy behaviour in online games/chat rooms will be exactly what is exploited to encourage the masses to go along with such systems.

I never demanded parents to be behind their kids 24/7. They just occasionally need to talk to their kids about what they are doing online and if your kid is lying to you there then you have fucked up much earlier in raising your child.

Yes, ERP needs to be as easily reportable as RMT is. The reason? The age ratting for the game is 13+.
Every public say, shout, comment related to ERP, ERP events, ERP discords should be reportable and punishable.
Either people don't realize it or play dumb, but every time an adult ERPs with a minor it's at least borderline pedophilia, and it's definitely a way how a predator can get access to children.
If you know someone, do what you want with them in private, but don't announce it to the world every 5 minutes in the shout...

I wouldn't consider 'missing out on the ability to approach people online for glorified cyber' to be a punishment, personally.

I am of the opinion that whatever two consenting adults, hell, even two consenting teens [as long as both parties are teens, not one teen and one adult] want to get up to behind closed doors is their own business. And I would sure as Hell rather my teens be getting up to erp in a game where no one is harmed than be having real sex that if they aren't careful can have real life consequences.

Edit to add: I say this as a 52 year old woman whose children are all grown now, but the point still stands. ERP is relatively harmless between two teenagers, real sex can result in real life pregnancies that can wreck a teen's life if they aren't careful.

I have zero interest in ERP, I find it a bit off tbh BUT.... I don't care if others do it, like it, live it in this game.

They need to keep it private and discreet and between consenting people.

Because it never stops at just "missing out on the ability to approach people online for glorified cyber". There is always something else that need censored/removed to "protect the children".

The reality is that his has nothing to do with protecting children. Children are merely used as a bludgeon to exert ones authoritarian morals.

Want to protect children? Treat them with respect. Treat them as individuals and educate them about their own existence as humans. About how to act on the internet, to stay anonymous and steer away from questionable interactions.

Using "harmless" ERP on social media, it starts as ERP, your "relatively harmless" fun, after a while they agree to meet... Even someone as naive as you should be able to imagine what comes next. People on the internet are anonymous, you cannot know their age, that's why there is nothing like "as long as both parties are teens", you just don't know, cannot know, hence ERP needs to be harshly punished in all media content targeted at minors.

I'm inclined to agree with you but I also think he's one of our election tourists. There used to be a time where you would be mocked and lambasted (and rightfully so) if you ever took 4chan board culture outside of 4chan. If your teenagers are running off to meet RL adults, that's a you problem, not an ERP problem. Teach your kids the signs of what to look for, their chances of being preyed upon go down significantly. It's because parents think "sex is icky" and refuse to educate their children on how to avoid predators that such things are so prevelent in the first place. Adults and consenting teens keeping things between teens should not be punished by having activities they enjoy banned just because adults are too damned squeamish to teach their kids how to minimize their risk of exposure to predators.

What i enjoy most about these threads is that they talk about all this and fail to mention that on other media like tv its much worse. I grew up knowing about girls gone wild advertising, a whole like hour loop. What should really be worrying is how healers still press one button for dps.
