<call>

I wasn't sure if User Interface was the right place to put this but... I want <call>!

How hard could it be to bind a sound clip to <call ##> or /call ##? Even if it was just the XI calls, it would be very helpful for communicating, especially with party members who can't speak in voice programs because they don't have a microphone.

Are there any plans to implement this at all? If not soon, then in 2.0?

As long as you can set the incoming volume of the call. People wearing headsets (like me) used to get blasted by calls in XI that would make you go deaf. I used calls a lot especially in my pulling macro just to make sure the party was paying attention but I used the softer-sounding calls because some of them would just ear-rape.

Also makes ninja-afk people aware that you are angry at them.

I agree, some kind of volume normalization and/or volume control specifically for calls would be a nice improvement. I enjoy my headphones, I also enjoy keeping my hearing.

I'm all for this. I used to love to play around with calls in certain macros.

There could also be an option to simply turn the calls on and off for those people that absolutely hate FFXI's <call>s.

Yes, please! 100% in support of this, though I agree with previous posters that this time around there needs to be some volume equalization among the calls.

I'd rather have like a screen announcement than a call.

What if that guy/gal is watching tv and not paying attention at all to the screen? we need sound calls, or if they went somewhere else they can hear the call and then come back and see whats up

I know that is may be difficult to understand this if someone has only played FFXI, but other mmos logs you out after you're afk for awhile. They set you as 'away' after like 5minutes of no activity and log you out after like 15mins. If you try to send someone a message after you away gets put up, it tells that to the person who sent you the message.

FF online games are notorious for people standing around AFK. It isn't like this in other games which log you out after X time idle. FFXIV is moving towards a more modern game environment and I would hope that a loud whistle isn't part of that movement. When you are playing a game, you should be paying attention 99% of the time, making stuff like calls pretty worthless.

I must respectfully disagree. In World of Warcraft, the raid warning was both audio and visual. Some very good ideas have been put forward about allowing people to control how loud calls are or if they even hear them at all. It would be interesting if it could be tied to vibration on controllers as well.

I do my best to pay attention, but a lot happens in the harder fights. Having multiple calls to choose from is about more than just calling people back from afk. Parties could associate a specific sound with a particular warning and take action appropriately without needing to read the log to get the details.

There was a fun side to it for some people. Some of the sounds in XI were too silly or quiet to use it battle, but people used them any way. With only people in a party being able to hear the call.

Another reference to Warcraft, one of the more popular add-ons, Deadly Boss Mods, made frequent use of warnings.

There is more than one way to use Call. For the people that don't like them, don't use them/ enable them.

The dev. team will look into whether or not call sounds can be implemented in 2.0. :)

Can be implemented i think you should use your word more careful you pretty much saying there a limitation so early on that you can't add a simple thing as <call>.

Better way of saying would be is "The dev team would see whether they want to implemented in 2.0 or not.

It wouldn't be a PS3 limitation and you know it. Funnily enough, it could be a simple case of whether or not the chat system used supports it. A lot of MMOs don't have audio capabilities with their chatlog system, so it wouldn't be due to a "limitation."

I'm pretty sure our chat system has those capabilities though. If they can add a chyme that plays whenever we receive a /tell, I don't see why they can't add a sound effect triggered by a certain text command. My only hope is that if they do add <call>, which I am very much in favor of, is that they add some sort of timer on it so people can't spam it as they did in XI. Maybe once a <call> has been used in party chat, you must wait 30 seconds before a party member can do it again, or something to that effect.

There is indeed a limitation: It's called time. Every game development has that limitation though.

I think <call14> was about the only one I could tolerate.

Adding <call> would be a great idea though. few times I typically tab out between fights and typically just say I'll tab in when i hear the cs. failing that people just shout over mumble. but a call would certainly be usefull.

<call>ing back afk members while building parties for things, cause we've all spent 2 hours building a party, is about the only time I ever used the generic <call> and even then only after giving fair warning cause it really was obnoxious, but useful as all get out.

Having multiple <call>s like they eventually did in FFXI would be great. I have a count down macro for things like Hellfire and being able to just have a <call-normal volume> at the 5 second mark would make it a bit more noticeable. Adding a slider to the audio controls just for general call volume seems like a good idea too, though I think that being able to completely turn them off is defeating the purpose. A delay between uses like /yell in XI where once you use it you have to wait N seconds before using again so people don't just spam.

Having them tied into the vibration was something they had in XI too, right outta the gate, nothing was more entertaining than a 5AM xp pt where your starting to nod out then your controller jumps outta your hands and rattles across a floor/desk, while the game makes horrible noises.

On the note of adding it, the input parser already processes <blah> there's really no reason at all that having /call or <call> work should be that much work. Unless of course the code isn't modularized well and the parser is spread across 3000 files jumbled in with other crap.

That's why they need to implement some form of timeout/cooldown so ppl can't just spam noise, and of course it should be party only like it was in XI.

<call> isn't bad, it's how ppl used it to be jackasses that was.

Instead of adding a call just add a ready check like WoW has.

Yeah how else are you supposed to be a general pain in the @$$ in a pty without the <call> function

I would like both calls and a ready check.

When you enter an instance,primal/hamlet (anything) it should require all members to click a ready check button prior to entering. (you could take this a step further and have a cutscene skip which requires everyone to skip the cutscene before the event/fight timer starts)

Hopefully Yoshi-p gets to play Diablo 3 before 2.0 and he will know what I mean :P

Ready check, yes. <call>, absolutely not. There are plenty of other ways to be obnoxious in this game already.

They're just like horns on automobiles. Completely unnecessary and ineffective, they only exist to make those that blow them feel better.
