Dress Material and Mariner Cotton Cloth drop rates are awful.

Yes I know RnG be RnG kupo. Yet I know that somehow somewhere I pissed off the RnG gods so more likely than not I tend to have crap luck with drop rates. Anyway for those who don't know these two mats make things like the Sailor Shirt, Moonfire swim gear, Beach Chair and the Spring Dress.

Yet they only drop from lv 50 maps. They both drop from the Unhidden Leather Map which is only from having it as a drop from lv 40 and 50 maps. Want to know what you'll most likely get from Peisteskin, Boarskin and the Unhidden Leather maps? Thavnairian Mistletoe, Belah'dian Silver and a Moonstone.

It would be nice if they adjusted some of the older maps or took some things out from the pool like the Aetherial pink gear and the potions. I mean heck I haven't even seen a Blue Bird which has been given more ways to obtain it. Nor the Wind-up Tonberry which also has the same amount of places as the Blue Bird.

You should've stocked it from past Moogle Events, it gave abundance of Mariner Cotton Clothes :)

Step 1. Sell the maps for 30K+ gil a piece
Step 2. Buy the materials using the gil you made

That's for one not both and doesn't change the fact the drop rate for both seem to be horrendous and thar older maps loot lists should probably be looked at and readjusted. If I were to go the sell and buy route I'd either break even or lose money as at least on my server the maps and mats are about the same amount if not one costing more than the other. Course it would be nice if they adjusted the gain a map timers or the amount you could get on the older maps. Not that I feel they should spend time on this over more important QoL

The game badly needs more rare items and things worth spending gil on or hunting for. Nothing is sacred in this game, every old minion, mount or other desirable item has a very high chance of appearing in some sort of loot box, moogle tome or retainer venture and ending up worth peanuts. Even the cloth isn't really sacred and has appeared on Moogle events and some of the glam drops in PotD.

I'm not a fan of having no rare items worth hunting for.

If you don't want to rely on RNG then that's how it works. Other people are taking the time/risk and you get the item in exchange for gil. This annihilates the whole RNG requirement and thus the thing you have a problem with is no longer a problem. Now, we've moved the problem to "I feel this thing is too expensive", which... I dunno, deal with it. There's far more expensive stuff in the game and it's in fact the key to a healthy player economy.

If you wanted to complain about the drop rates for untradable items then fair enough. But RNG isn't an issue with things that are widely available on the marketboard.

The prices for Boarskin maps on Midgardsormr is 39,901, Peisteskin are going for 38,985, Unhidden Leather are 289,999. Mariner Cotton Cloth is 84,649 and Dress is 131,993. And even though I could afford to buy enough so that I can get them checked off in my crafting log I'd rather not. I'm not even asking for a huge increase in their drop rate. Yet with your and others replies it comes off as though I'm asking for them to drop every map. This coming from a person who knows how abysmal the drop rate for the Lesser Panda is and who farmed Morpho for days only to end up getting one the day before they added it as a reward possibility from the Firmament. I still have the Arhat Fending gloves alluding me. But let me guess you and the others were also against it when snubble tuffs drop rate got a boost?

I feel your pain. That cloth was one of two major gil sinks required when I was completing my crafting logs. I think the cloth was selling for around 200-250k each at the time on my server. I had a lot less gil at the time, and you need around 5-6 cloths to craft all the gear. Perhaps more. I actually grinded through the RNG, and I needed just one more cloth, and it would not give it up. I told myself it wasn't a big deal, and I would just add the boarskin map to my daily routine, and sometimes would get a bonus attempt when getting an unhidden leather map. That routine went on for months without a drop. I finally said screw it and bought the last cloth I needed in defeat.

I know people will often say to just buy it; but sometimes it's not about that. Sometimes we simply want to beat the RNG.

So in 2 days you get enough maps to afford 1 piece of mariner cotton cloth or 4 days for 1 dress material. Sounds fine. In a little over a month you can get everything you want. If you're really Hell bent on getting them yourself in some kinda ironman playthrough where you're not allowed to use the marketboard then that's just a self-imposed torture.

I dunno why someone who complains about being bad with RNG would advocate to keep RNG involved in a 'solution'. Wouldn't you feel even worse if they doubled the drop rate and you still couldn't get any? I know I would. My proposed solution involves 0 RNG.

I don't care one way or another. Give it 100% chance drop, give it a .01% drop. It just seems like a problem with a very easy fix you can accomplish right now.

You're not wrong about anything you're saying here. However the issue isn't a nonsensical determination to beat out RNG. The issue is choosing to have that battle full-well knowing what it entails, and then requesting a more generous drop rate. I am not quite sure how OP can still get the same sense of accomplishment in this case. There are also more acceptable means to battle with RNG such as big game fishing. OP might want to give that a go if she doesn't already.

Sigh. The point isn't if I can afford the materials or not. The point is that even though their personal drop rate might be higher than that of the Cassie Earnings that they're maybe closer to the original Snurbble Tuff drop rate. That the devs should maybe take a look at older maps at some point and adjust their loot tables.

Heck I even suggested in my OP that they wouldn't even need to increase their individual % but to remove things that I doubt many would miss or even realize that some things like the pink gear were still in the game. Gear that's for the most part not even an upgrade as I'm sure they have worse stats than the artifact gear you get for any ARR job. Though if they did remove them I doubt they would make sure the chests are handing out the correct amount of items that they should be. If treasure map chests have a set amount they should be doling out on a regular basis and anything more is part of the random.

Just like I suspect of what actually happened when they removed belts. That they only checked to see if belts stopped showing up as loot and not making sure that a chest that is supposed to always give out X number of items of gear is doing so. If you're wondering what I mean just go run Kugane Castle and check how many time you only get one piece of armor vs two when you probably should always get two and then maybe also the furniture material from the 1st boss chest. And again I don't think they should go and do this instead or even before they deal with more important things. Just that some point in time it'd be nice that they take a look at older side content and see if they feel like it could get a touch up.

How can you remove thing "without" increasing individual %? I don't ... think you understand how probability work. If you remove items from the loot list, you increase the % of the remaining loot, math is not a vacuum.

And frankly, map's mat is one of the "VERY FEW" things remaining for casual player to earn some gil. I personally don't do it, but I would not want to take it away from them. Gathering mats, materias were used to be other means, but more and more SE made them falling from the sky. Outside of housing this game is already as accessible as it it in term of getting what you want.

or they could just.. craft and sell ANYTHING in the game and make millions of gil a day.. and then just buy it and make some other person suffer the grind to get the cloth.

Removing things bumps up everything in the loot drop list's %. Which yes increases its drop rate. You can also make it so that an item itself also has a higher drop rate than other items. With or without increasing everything else's drop rate. Depending on if they were to remove items or not. Again I am not asking them to make it a huge increase on this stuff. I also think it's ridiculous that things like Morpho and the Thavnairian sets drop so often you could easily trip over them. I just think a lot of older side content should get a look at.

Heck I'd even be fine if they did look at ARR and HW maps and said they didn't think they or their drops need an adjustment. There's a lot of things that many feel get left on the road side or not deemed worthy enough to go back and take a look. Then there are things that the devs might not know there is a problem with until a content creator or a question gets picked in a Q&A and thus brought to their attention.

That's like saying "I don't need you to give me money but please write me a check".

Talking real, you have lots of options open to you, but also... that's just how RNG be. And even then the RNG in this game is very forgiving compared to older games like FFXI.

Ultimately, you should be thinking about is as a function of time vs money. If you are looking to save money by not using the Market Board, you risk wasting a lot of time that could be spent getting significantly more money than you saved.

Also, of note, if the item drop rate increased, it'd be worthless and you would be even MORE wasteful not just buying it outright.

So, here's your options:
1) Do more map runs/get your friends involved/make an event of it. My friends tend to do 18ish maps all at once when we've nothing else we want to do. The goal is never to make money for us.
2) Just sell your maps/random junk/do Doma donation/turn in crafting leves and get lots of cash to buy them. If your goal is just getting your crafting log done, there's no reason you need to obtain the drops yourself.

Just our luck the devs WILL increase the drop rate and we'll see Marine Cotton Cloth going for 5000 gil a piece. And the prices of all other maps will fall by 20-30% because nobody will want to grab boar/piestskin maps anymore.

Well for starters Mariner Cotton cloth is really just good to sell to crazies that want to craft everything themselves or those that are blind since individual glam pieces made from it are far cheaper due to being potential drops from PotD and HoH. So really the only purpose of it is to be sold. Dress Material would be more annoying as I don't believe set pieces can drop. Ultimately increasing their drop rate would decrease their value which is already low enough that actively farming maps is waste of Gil.

Remember when the devs gave away beast tribe mounts for an event? That was pretty funny, undermining their own content, lol.

Cursed Mariner's Cotton Cloth. I've been grinding boarskin maps and exhausting my retainers with quick ventures for a couple weeks now and I've only been able to land one of these. Four more to go before I can finally plop a couple of beach chairs into my island sanctuary.

If you're doing crafting log completion, I'm surprised a couple mil in cloth is even something you blink at. There's so many other things that will spit up wild profit margins on the way. It's just hard to believe that 'gil's not the problem' when there's any kind of hesitation like that.

Genuinely, though, there's so few items like this that hold any value at all anymore. Let a couple scrape through for the good vibes when one pops out of a map or an old Palace bronze sack or whatever - so, so many have been killed by lootboxes and the quick venture list and so on through the years. Completionism's never meant to be a cakewalk, anyway.

Buy cheap Moonfire gear off the MB and desynthesize it. The Moonfire Vest tends to be the best, you can get up to 3 cloth from a desynthesis and it usually costs less than the Halter (which also gives up to 3). The head and leg items can give 2 and the feet items 1 (though I would skip the feet unless they're super cheap).

I'll clear out marketboards of cheap Moonfire gear on occasion just for this purpose. I've still got about 150 cloth left from my last trip that I've been drip feeding to the marketboards both as cloth and as Beach Chairs. It's crazy how much the cloth is going for when players can buy the Moonfire items for less than the cost of a single piece of Mariner Cotton Cloth (the Beach Chair and a couple of the Sailor pieces are a different story).

Thanks for the tip...I did not even consider that avenue. Will have to see if I can track down this cheap gear. Just trying to get them without making the big gil sink. Ironically the RNG gods heard my grievance from yesterday as I managed to land a cloth from the map I did last night, lol.
