[ENDWALKER SPOILER!] That Teleport Scene

Had to keep the title vague due to spoiler potential. That aside, I was watching Endwalker cutscenes earlier and one particular segment made me think.

The scene(s) in question:

Namely the scene where the Endsinger has the Scions at her mercy, floating helplessly toward their doom. The WoL looks up at Alisae and says something before activating the teleportation device but we, obviously, don't hear the words.

Not sure whether there is an official 'answer' to this, and working on the assumption that there isn't what did your WoL say in that moment before the button was pressed?

I like to think that, with everything that led us to that point in mind, my Warrior of Light simply said "Its my turn".

Canon answer?

Somewhat joking ahah, but in more serious terms she probably said something along the lines of "Don't hate me for doing this to you yet again"

I headcanon my WoL viewing Alisaie as the little sister she never got to have (my WOL's baby sister died a few days after she was born) so she understands and regularly talks with Alisaie about this kind of thing - so Alisaie's outburst wasn't *new* to her, it was something she already knew was brewing, so for her to have to be self-sacrificial *YET AGAIN*, after Alisaie told her that she could rely on others, she felt like an A-hole lol.

I prefer to pretend that scene didn't happen at all. My Warrior of Light fought the Endsinger alongside her most stalwart and dependable companions, the Scions of the Seventh Dawn.

This is completely off-topic, but for whatever reason, this immediately made me think of the early days of SWTOR, back in like 2011. There was a time in that game where they had actual consequences, as in your companions could permanently die based on your decisions. It was meant to actually make the player think about their choices and to make the class stories have a bigger emotional impact.

Everyone hated it.

The forums were in a total uproar. So, BioWare reversed course and made it so that your companions could never die regardless of the situation. In KOTFE and KOTET, some companions were given death options, which was essentially a death sentence for that particular character, because you knew the writers were never going to write anything meaningful for them again, because not ever player would have that character alive.

It reminded me that the vocal minority, which apparently were those in the SWTOR beta (don't know, I didn't play the beta) who wanted actual consequence in the story did not represent the overall playerbase, who wanted escapism and very little consequence at all. I can see the same thing happening here if/when SE decides to start killing off Scions.

That scene was too serious for us. It's only natural that we joke. They probably said something to that effect, but it's for us to fill in, as a multiple choice box would just ruin the moment.

That's what happens when your choices can be summed up as:

1. Enthusiastic yes/yes with a quote and/or some platitudes
2. Less enthusiastic yes
3. Fake doubt/indifference/disagreement and/or sarcasm/jokes, but yes
4. ... (= yes)

"Choice" boxes are pointless and stupid.

I find it annoying that what would be a very generic 'I got this' is left up to player imagination. But when Zenos shows up we HAVE to be rude to him. Why couldn't they leave that one to my imagination?

so the whole sequence with all that happens in just a few seconds is supposed to have some kind of pause while we figure out what's being said? (even though it will likely all look the same.)

I'm not sure we were rude to him to be honest, and it seemed pretty clear that he didn't really care about our answer anyway.

I could see my WoL saying "goodbye". Simply because we believed at that point in time that we would be completely alone against Despair itself. Which could be our death.

I was thinking along the same lines.

Overlooking the fact that their deaths were not permanent, one of the first things that came to mind for me during that scene was who it was we were saying it to: Alisae. Who, just before sacrificing herself, had expressed her upset at the thought of the WoL having to face Meteion alone. And that's exactly the scenario that came to pass - we ended up having to face not Meteion, but the Endsinger, alone and Alisae had to watch the scenario she'd feared actually happen, before being teleported to safety.

"You should have used surecast!"

Serious reply: "Thank you, and I'm sorry."

Not-so-serious: ............................ To be frank, I can't think of any. I've replayed EW NG+ a total of 3 times at this point (doing my 4th sometime soon), but that CS had been consistently giving me that sense of foreboding; nothing else.
