So devs don't understand math.

I am refering to STILL locking out 3/4 of the wards of ALL housing areas for guilds only. There are hundreds of guilds wanting housing but there are MILLIONS of private people who want housing. Take the restriction off of the first 18 wards already. I already own a house so I am not being selfish I just see this and massively unfair to the larger group of people who are looking for a housing. And now there will be hundreds of bids on every house for private housing and then look at the guild wards and you have maybe 5 bidders. Wake up and do the math this is wrong.

This is probably what they thought, but it will backfire. It pushes people into doing solo FCs, so it is a little damaging to the community.
Anyway, there's absolutely no way all FC houses will be filled, so give it a few months(until 6.2, maybe?) and the pool of private houses will grow a bit. Too bad it will still be far from enough.

Except it's not really FC housing for the group. It's FC housing for the FC Master and those the FC Master decides can have access to the housing features. Everyone else is effectively a visitor even though they're FC members.

Players are looking for a personal creative outlet but that requires a measure of control so they can express themselves. That control is absent when access is granted at someone else's whim and that person has the ability to override the player's personal choices, not to mention has given access to others also able to override the player's choice. That's why the demand for personal housing is so high - no one else can interfere.

It's been literally one lottery cycle. One buggy cycle that took up a month of their time trying to correct. Maybe give them half a minute to adjust ward restrictions.

I mean, it's never going to be enough to satisfy everyone wanting personals anyway. But damn this is incredibly impatient.

How about getting an apartment then? You'll have limits but it's your own space, costs fraction of what the house costs and you'll never lose it. Seen enough barely decorated houses to feel more than enough people doesn't really commit to the house as much as they claim they do/would.

single housing is coming back to these wards, it is only good that they do not keep everything open to everyone, but just some for a start.

As others have pointed out, it's not that they can't do math, it's that they very clearly can do math but it's from too theoretical of a perspective.

If they know, for example, that they can only put 200 houses in the game at one point then:
A.) They allocate most of those houses to FCs such that each individual house can serve 10, 20, 30, 100, etc. players
B.) They allocate most of those houses to single players such that each individual house can serve 1 player

In scenario A, the 200 houses is intended to serve 2000, 4000, 6000, 20000, etc. players.
In scenario B, the 200 houses is intended to serve 200 players.

You don't have to like it but, mathematically speaking, it's easy to see why they opted for scenario A.

I would be happy if they just made bigger apartment rooms. Those are instanced anyway so there should be no issue of having not just a small room :I

Apartments lack multiple floors, which makes certain certain decorating tricks impossible without the use of third party mods. Why can players doze on the Manor Couch on the ground floor of my FC's small? Because I floated a bed in the basement up to the ceiling directly under the couch. Try to hide a bed in an apartment to do the same trick uses up a lot of valuable space (and a greater percentage of the item limit). Want a marble staircase? You can do that in a house by floating Marble Paritions up through the ceiling of a lower floor. You can't do it in an apartment.

Don't get me wrong - I'm a proponent for more use of apartments, especially by players worried about taking breaks from the game and worried about demolition. What's the point of having a house in a game you rarely play? But there still are not enough houses for the players who would make regular use of them and want access to the things an apartment can't provide.

As for barely decorated houses, there can be multiple reasons such as the player only wants access to garden/workshop but neither are available without house ownership, or the player likes more sparsely decorated areas. Not everyone wants a house cluttered up like a bad thrift shop.

I would tend to agree with all of what Jojoya said here. It's also the reason why, I suspect, that Island Sanctuaries are being developed. The developers don't appear to have any interest in dealing with the housing issue in any definitive way. I believe they are implementing Island Sanctuaries to provide players with access to gardening without having to deal with the housing issue.

Using dev resources to ground up create a whole new system to appease a portion of the playerbase instead of using those resources to fix an existing system and appease a much larger portion. Sounds like something they would do to me.

Except we already know that whatever farming is coming with Island Sanctuary won't be the gardening we have with housing. YoshiP has stated there are no timers involved. The timers in gardening help contribute to the high prices of items like Thavnairian Onions on the MB because few house owners are interested in dealing with the timer stress.

It makes no sense for SE to invest a lot of time and effort into Island Sanctuary if it's intended to be a substitute for housing systems when they could have put the time and effort into updating housing directly instead.

With 6.15 announced for June 7th, we should be getting one of the Live Letters for 6.2 soon. Let's hope they finally release concrete information about Island Sanctuary that will put the speculation and rumors to rest finally.

It's not about math, it's about priority.

Yoshi-P wants to give housing for FC as a priority for the FC workshop side and the community side.

While persisting in wanting to make the housing areas community based, it remains a ghost town because there is a strong inconsistency between what Yoshi-P wants and the ingame players.

It's like forcing children to eat more vegetables, they will prefer chocolate.


If the goal of Yoshi-P was to provide housing for all, there would have been instantiation long ago.

It must currently have a 24 instance housing divided by two of 30 houses, by capital with housing, so the calculation is quickly made that it's not for everyone.

According to this url, there would be 50k to 100k +/- population per server, for 10k +/- active. There are 7200 housing slots per server and before, there were only half.

I don't think it's so much inconsistency between what the developers and players want. There are some players who love the idea of living in a ward with multiple houses even if they never see another player in the ward.

The real problem is that the way the wards are expected to be populated in theory doesn't work out in practice. Going to throw out some numbers to use as examples - actual situation by ward will vary.

Up until 6.1 (not sure how the numbers have changed since if at all), houses were roughly 70% personal and 30% FC. Let's say the typical FC has 8 unique and active members on average. That gives us approximately 93 players with a reason to be in that ward.

How much time would you expect each of those players to be traveling around in their ward each week as opposed to being inside of their house or doing other content? Most players don't tend to hang around outside of their houses much if at all. It's far more likely to happen at a FC house than at a personal house. Let's say 10 minutes for those with a personal house and 60 minutes for those with a FC house. That's roughly 75 hours spent in the ward each week - out of 168 hours in a week - and spread around throughout the day depending on when each player is able to log into play and whether they want to be hanging out at their house instead of doing other content. It doesn't help that players are able to teleport directly to their house and teleport directly away from their house so there's no foot traffic generated as players are coming and going. There's only foot traffic if the player has reason to go to another part of the ward and the aethernet shards aren't in convenient places for getting there.

Contrast that with real life neighborhoods where a majority of residents will have some variation of a M-F 8-5 schedule so they tend to be going to and from their homes during the same time frames, actually need to drive/ride/walk through their neighborhoods to get to/from their homes, etc. There's usually someone (or many someones) moving around to make it feel populated.

We don't utilize wards the same way neighborhoods are utilized in real life and so we're left with empty, though decorated, spaces. The small number of houses that exists per world is spread between too many different wards for players to get a true neighborhood experience.

It IS a form of gardening that allows those who do not have houses, to be able to participate in. Instanced housing shouldn't be off the table. I own 2 apartments. That's 2 instances. They can do it. If you even have a source for them saying its "off the table" then its a lie (as in SE is not telling you the truth.)

They cut corners on virtually everything else, they can afford to develop instanced housing. Even island sanctuaries more than likely function like every other instance.
They can do it, they absolutely have the space and everything they need to do it. It would not crash the servers, any more than every FC member of every FC that owns a house filling up all the apartment slots (if there is even a limit) for the FC apartments might crash the servers. Please, stop with the concessions. Its such a pitifully crafted excuse for a company that has made less and less per expansion despite increased subscriptions.

Adding wards to meet large and medium demands? Impossible. THAT might crash the servers. Instanced housing? No. Enough of the bullshit. It is not even as if in a situation where every single player was able to own a house, they would constantly be moving in and out of them. People actually log out.

I don't disagree with much of what you said but there have been plenty of people on these forums who have stated that Yoshida himself was against instanced housing. This appears not to be a case of they can't do it, but a case of they don't want to.

I think you're ignoring why players keep asking for access to gardening. It's not because they want "some form of gardening" to do. That's already available via flowerpots in FC rooms and apartments. Any seed you can buy from the MB or a vendor can be grown in flowerpots (which is more than you can say for garden patches - you can't grow the decorative flower seeds in those).

It's because they feel the prices for things like Thavnairian Onions are too high so they want to be able to cross breed to get the seeds and then grow the onions themselves. "Some form of gardening" in Island Sanctuary isn't going to provide that.

It's also clear that instanced housing is not off the table when they gave us apartments in the first place. Apartments are instanced housing. It exists in the game. The question is whether SE is willing to expand on it so it provides more of what makes house ownership more attractive than apartment ownership.

Island Sanctuary was not being developed to satisfy housing demand. It was developed to satisfy other requests coming from the player base (primarily the JP side) for things like being able to have more than one minion out at a time. I don't envy SE the rage they're going to have to face when specific details about Island Sanctuary get released and players found out they've been misled by other players like you that insist it's to satisfy housing complaints.

I would argue that we know precious few details for a feature that was bandied about prominently in the promotional materials for Endwalker. Heck, even my former WoW guildies (I'm unsubbed) who don't play FFXIV keep asking what exactly Island Sanctuaries are out of curiosity. You're most likely correct that it's just some place to...unleash your minions.

Still, if it was just a minion ranch, you think they'd clarify that by now. There's a non-zero chance that the devs are frantically adding personal housing features, or the ability to introduce them in a later update at this point. We'll find out in the live letter. But I do agree that getting your hopes up is a fool's errand.

Crossbreeding can only be done at the moment, in garden plots at houses. I see nothing in what I wrote that would invalidate the theory that Island Sanctuaries are a way to provide access to that sort of activity while not owning a house. That addresses the gardening concerns of those who can not get houses. Additionally, you appear to be ignoring the reports by others that Yoshida is not in favor of instanced housing and prefers the ward system. I would submit that until he changes his mind on that issue, instanced housing (with all of the functionality of current housing plots) is indeed off the table. For now. Which is a shame because I'd like to see an expanded system for apartments and maybe even instanced housing as well. We already know that Island Sanctuary won't be providing crossbreeding of items currently in the game because they are a timed activity and YoshiP has specifically stated there will be no timers involved in Island Sanctuary.

Will there be things we can grow? Almost definitely. Are they going to be the things that create the current demand for houses with respect to gardening? Not a chance. It's the market competition that drives the current gardening demand. Another thing YoshiP has told us is that Island Sanctuary will not be competitive in any way (not that players won't try to find ways to make it competitive). That means whatever we can produce will not be things that can be sold on the marketboard since the marketboard is the most competitive content in the game.

Players are still going to demand houses for gardening because they're still going to want the items that come solely from gardening. Island Sanctuary isn't going to fix that.

People have their expectations set too high for what Island Sanctuary might be when YoshiP has told us repeatedly to lower them. It doesn't help that players continue to go around saying "you'll be able to do this with it" when "this" contradicts what we do know.

What do we know for certain about Island Sanctuary?

It is farming themed, inspired by games like Stardew Valley, Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing but much simpler in nature with fewer features.

It is primarily solo content.

It is intended to be relaxing, stress-free, non-competitive content that the player can enjoy when they want and ignore when they want without progress being impacted (hence why no timers).

We will be able to have our minions run around our Sanctuary.

We will be able to place buildings.

It is scheduled for release in 6.2.

There's probably one or two other things he's told us that I can't remember off the top of my head but that should be most of the information shared so far.

Where do you get gardening out of that?

Where's the data for the "vast majority" claim coming from? Cuz, from the number of bids on available plots, the demand for housing might be a lot lower than claims like that would suggest.

Well the first "fix" for this is to get people to move the correct wards; Private to FC and FC to Private. That would mean you have to offer some kind of free transfer, most likely to FC first.

I have a private house, and I also am in an FC that has a house. Not saying it's wrong or anything, it's great having a house thats just mine. But have a guess where I'm spending most of the time when not doing content. Yeah! My FC's house, coz there's always a people hanging about the place, it's nice. So in a way I think it makes sense SE wants to primarily make sure the housing is shared. Though in the same breath I'd say they should double the private plots to 40%, 20 is just too few, but generally speaking I kinda understand the intent SE used when deciding the ratio between private and FC housing. Also as some1 said on here, it's still very early to see the bigger picture as the 2nd lottery round is to conclude tomorrow. Pretty sure there will be some adjustments a couple months later.

There's no such thing as "correct wards". The wards are intended to have mixed owner types in the long run. The purchase designations are to ensure that FCs are able to get a house. Once SE is satisfied the current demand for FC houses is filled, they'll switch some of the FC purchase wards to personal purchase to give more players a chance to get a personal house. In time, what are currently personal purchase wards may end up switched to FC in turn so those wards also have mixed owner types.

The unfortunate thing about the timing you mentioned is that one month allowed shell FCs created with the new system to start purchasing FC ward homes. Hence, the urgency. Square paused bidding for everyone during the month that was supposed to act as a buffer zone/precaution against these shell FCs, and if SE doesn't do something soon, then it won't matter if former fc wards become individual wards because they'll all be taken by shell FCs anyway. This problem will compound with the next lottery cycle.
A month is also a long time to look at something and realize it doesn't work, especially when FC wards sat empty for a month not because of the 0 glitch, but because there just wasn't demand on like 90% of the plots.
