Platinum 4, 0 Stars, for 1 Week Straight Now. AMA

Somehow I managed to rank to Plat in a relatively short time, then got hit with the bad player stick I guess because now I rarely win a game no matter what job I play. I, quite literally, cannot rank at all now. Even when I do manage to get close to Diamond it is always followed by a loss streak that puts me all the way back down. Not really sure what to even say at this point. Every day it's a new record and I don't expect this to change.

Play warrior. Guaranteed crystal ranked even post nerf.

I am though. Only thing that's changed since switching to this job is I can carry my goddawful teammates better. Still not enough. Watched somebody today who was holding down the crystal deliberately move off while we were just about there to help and let the enemy win.

No one job will carry you anywhere if the user or combination of users suck. Seems you learned that shit that hard way.
Having a certain combo or using a certain job won’t ensure anything, most of the competitive people are already placed and ranked in crystal, they kept playing and pushing over making posts everyday about how OP they think something is.

All you can do is play during peak hours so you get a healthy mix of those still climbing with the mindset to win over those who are stagnate and can’t or don’t want to dedicate time to climbing.
I learned on my climb to crystal I was getting certain people during certain hours of play, they tended to do really really bad, but being on during peak I never ran into them more than once, and I had better luck overall with getting different diverse groups that wanted to win.

That is true. But you know what else is true?

It is still going to be easier, sometimes considerably so, if you pick a "meta" job than a "non-meta" job, assuming you have equal skills with both. I think the meta job that is least likely to help someone rank up, though, is the white mage. This is because the job is so popular right now that you will have a white mage in your team 80% of the the time even if you never pick one. Warrior was almost in the same place, but with the buffs to DRK and GNB it saw a small decline in use, which makes it a more interesting pick.

OP could also try Red Mage, since it is the best all-round DPS with some breathing space to boot. Still, I would highly recommend practicing a lot before going into ranked with it.

Just dropped another match as WAR. Ran in, with my teammates, and used my aoe stun. I was almost instantly stunlocked to death. I had put up shield but they ate through it in a nanosecond. Somehow teammates managed to push the crystal ahead, but then got distracted and let one lone DRK push it farther than we got. I ran up and pulled him out, then started pushing it back, only for the entire team to jump me and kill me near instantly again. Meanwhile my team was nowhere to be seen. Just dropped, not dealing with that garbage.

Does not make a difference what time of day I play. If anything the enemy team is even better during peak and my team is about the same on average. I do suspect I'm being grouped up against coordinated players queing at the same time to get into the same group, and some may randomly end up on my side and throw the match on purpose for that reason. There's a massive skill difference between the people on my team and the enemy team since reaching platinum. I have a running theory that from Platinum and up discord cliques having taken over and are controlling who ranks or who doesn't to Diamond and beyond. All I know is the behavior since hitting platinum highly reeks of win-trading type behavior but proving it is the difficult part.

If no matter how much you play, you cant get out of Platinum, that means you are platinum skill.


That's how tier ranking works, the more you climb, more skilled players you encounter, until you find people that is normally better than you and then your skill by average make you lose more than win and you get stuck in that tier.

Do you know how many seemingly hopeless matches like the one you just described have been ones that get turned around into wins? Like, the games don't last THAT long, why give up instead of playing for the outside chance of a turnaround victory? CC is a very, very swingy mode, and it only takes a little momentum and a couple mistakes for a team to flip the balance of power completely.

You are shooting yourself in the foot and then complaining that it's too hard to walk, and it's painful to watch.

What a horrendous argument. If anything I should be better after all this time. And the people I'm up against are people who also manage to reach Platinum like me. They should be on par with me. At the very least my win ratios should not be 1%. That's not explainable by me somehow being too inept (despite being competent enough to hit Platinum in the first place, especially as a weaker job (MCH) ) . That's something else. If I was competent enough to hit Platinum I am competent enough to rank further. I did not suddenly get hit with the bad player stick as soon as I reached this level. I have described numerous instances of suspicious behavior from the enemy team, and teammates who are blatantly throwing or just bizarelly bad despite being in platinum. I did not experience these problems until platinum.

Your argument is probably the absolute worst I have heard so far.

Why should I carry people who are not even trying? Odds of that game turning around were virtually nil and honestly they didn't even deserve victory. Getting destroyed through a shield almost instantly from full HP (as a WAR mind you) TWICE also straight up should never happen. I'm not saying they were somehow cheating, but that's highly suspect. Especially when I can go multiple rounds and fight an opponent who, despite my entire team being on them, does not die (surviving attacks that should've killed them), or taking zero dmg from LB's (when they have no buffs to mitigate dmg).

The behavior in platinum tier is extremely off and I highly suspect something shady is going on. I can only imagine what Diamond and Crystal are like.

Is that way in Dota2, Legue of Legends, Overwatch, etc.. You climb until by average you lose more than you win and then you stop climbing.

Thanks to not being able to de-rank, and the win streak, in the long run less skilled players will end climbing with time. That is translated into a boost causing the more skilled reach Crystal sooner, and late in the season, Platinum players, by average, will be less skilled than early in the season and therefore will be easier to climb.

This is an objective opinion based on how tier ranking system works in other games and how the small changes implemented by SE would affect what we already know. If you are not happy doesn't change the system have been proved by years and years of iteration in other games.

I am pretty sure a Silver player in League of Legends believe too that they should be Challenger rank and they only lose because others, is pretty common but statistics don't lie, on the long run, your skill will turn the balance of your winning rate from 50% to 55% or 45% and that small increase or decrease is what make you climb or getting stuck.

Well, 1) because you should always be trying to win, but mostly 2) because every win you pull out of the trash is another shot at building a streak. Who cares if the chances are low or your team "doesn't deserve it"? You are not trying to win for other people, you are trying to win for yourself. Undercutting your chances of victory is undercutting your ability to rank up, full stop.

To be blunt, the rest tells me that you aren't really focusing on learning as much as you need to be. Getting destroyed through shield almost instantly "should" never happen, but there are a number of tools that make it quite plausible, especially if you're caught out alone and the enemy team has the luxury of taking a breath to synchronize correctly. You play MCH - you know there's over 50k Guard-bypassing damage on tap there in all of two button presses. There are several LBs that will drop shields on the spot, and a fully orchestrated team burst that burns cooldowns is more than enough to lock in a kill inside of a GCD, even on tank HP. Signaling the intent to do this to your team takes all of one macro. None of this is particularly suspicious: this is optimal play, and you will only see it more often from here. Learn what enables those kills, and learn how to mitigate or avoid them altogether. Sometimes the only answer is to have not been there in the first place.

Wait a minute, I thought ranking in this game WASN'T doing a good job at filtering people based on skill, hence why we have complaints about "unskilled" people (like above argued) getting into ranks they "shouldn't" have the skill for?

It is, people just get salty because they lose and blame others. If you get stuck forever in a rank, is because by average your skill is lower than the rest, and with time, that rank average skill player will lower due to the de-rank protection and winning strike, allowing lower tier player with a winning strike to reach next tier and protected to go back to the other tier. This should cause that higher skilled players in the same rank as these less skilled players that reach that tier should have a higher winrate and climb to the next, and the loop continues.


Because the system allow slowly to inject less skilled players in a rank, that is translated to higher skilled players in that tier to rank to the next because their winning rate will increase. This is only possible due to the SE changes made compared to the traditional mode without de-rank protection and no winning strike.


So if a season lasted for years, then 99% of players will reach Crystal tier, but then the Crystal Credit system will separate low skill players with a credit close to 0 than medium or high skilled players.

But tbh the less people play, higher the window to select players and bigger the difference in skill. This work better on games like LoL and Dota because thousands of people are matchmaking at the same time and the game length is so long (30 min to 45 for Dota for example) so they can allow the matchmaking to take time to search for a more balanced team as the pool of players is bigger too.

In FFXIV the pool of players looking for a match at the same time is much smaller and the games are so fast that the matchmaking have to be really fast or will be annoying to wait 5 minutes to play a 2 min game, making matchmaking longer will cause less people to play and therefore more unbalanced games in long term. One of the attractions of this game mode is how fast the games are.

In general, Tier systems work as intended but in the long run people that normally should not climb, will climb and that will allow other to climb too.

Let’s be honest here. There are allot of cheaters in the higher tiers. Mostly Diamond+. I played some games and literally had a tank just run in and stand there and get killed every time. People who die 5-8 times in a match literally has me suspicious. Never had people die that much in lower ranks and even higher ranks but when I see some people run in and just stand there and get killed that’s definitely cheating/win trading.

Yeah there is skill involved as you rank up but you definitely can’t carry a team even if you play an overpowered job if you have people throwing the matches. It’s impossible. I believe OP when he says he’s encountering cheaters. I’ve seen them myself. Allot of them. It’s sad because if you didn’t climb early now it’s even worst time to try to climb because so many are throwing matches.

I don't say is not, but founding a cheater or having a win trade game is not that impactful, why? because you can have the cheater on your team or the win trade on your side. It happens not that frequently and when it happens is a close 50% chance. In the long run by average if u meet 9 cheaters, 5 will be in the other team and 4 times in yours. You skill as player is a constant value on your winrate.

The problem is with Human mentality, when we win is all good game and you played very well, when you lose you see the cheaters and the win trades, but statistically is not that impactful as these can go either side.

If cheaters exist they would most certainly be concentrated in the highest tiers. I suspect it's discord cliques gatekeeping who ranks to Crystal, attempting to manipulate Platinum to Crystal tiers. Diamond must be an absolute nightmare right now.

The odds of you having a premade on your side as a pug is far less likely than the opposite. Far more likely you will encounter one person from a clique on your team who the majority of their clique is on the other team and so they will intentionally throw the match on you so they win. Which explains numerous reports of high level rank matches where somebody notes what appears to be a party member of theirs throwing or playing badly, or not even playing at all and basically afking. It's wintrading.

I've seen this exact same type of gaslighting in regards to Frontline premades supposedly not being real and impossible, while I was literally in discord servers with people coordinating said premades. I see through you, buddy.

I don't want this to come off like a taunt, since you're clearly having an awful time, but the way you talk about your teams and your sessions makes your low winrate seem completely plausible. If you're getting upset enough that you're leaving games, there is basically a 0% chance that you're bringing all of your faculties into every game. In another thread, you claimed you'd abandoned 100+ games over a 3-day period; I don't even think I've played that many games in the same timespan.

For what it's worth, I also walled at Plat 4 for a while; I think there's probably some sort of "critical mass" there. Your matchmaking pool contains every player who's failing to get into Platinum (which, by this point in the season, could mean they're quite weak), but also contains every player who has scraped against the border of Diamond only to fall back down, mindlessly spamming matches until they hit their lucky streak, and every player who finally shook off Platinum-rank ankleweights on their way to Crystal. Variance is going to be high there, and human beings are famously bad at intuitive statistics.

I think if you're going to continue posting, you might want to record and post some match videos. A look at what your average session is like will let people advise you on how to improve, and if something fishy is going on, concrete evidence will help make sure cheaters and wintraders are punished.

Without counting yourself, there are 9 slots, 5 in the other team, 4 in yours, that translated to percentages are 44.44% and 55.55% chances for a player that is not you, to fall into each team and therefore the premade win team going one way or the other. If you add that to the chance that you get a premade on your match, the imbalance is very very low to affect your overall ability to rank up, probably very close to 49-51. but again as I said, when you lose, the perception is different, so people will complain a lot even when things are really not that much unbalance.

There is no perfect system, not this one, not any other. But I think people misinterpret the point that tiers are a very slow progression system designed to climb anyway. Wintrading in Crystal should be less of a thing as the players losing, lose Crystal Credit every time you "help" your friends and then you have to climb credit again alone, to lose it again by helping your friends again... different than people wintrading during the tier progression system where you can help someone climb the next tier and then they help you climb too as they have de-rank protection.

For that reason I think de-rank protection should be removed and winstrike benefit should be increased. That way wintrading with the parachute of no de-rank should be minimized (not removed)

Everyone has tested the queue at the same time system and I'd argue that 85-90% of the time we end up in the same match. Less likely that we're in the same group as we're queuing up as a group of three just because we want to have fun in casual.

I can literally demonstrate this any time and any day any place. The willful ignorance on display that somehow you can't group up again (especially when I repeatedly get the same people when I'm queuing up for matches? lol) to then weirdly wax poetic about "human mentality" but at the end of the day this system is easily gamed, easily cheated, and easily broken. Please stop pretending like it isn't.

Just pushed to Plat 3, 1 star, only to hit another losing streak and go all the way back down. Just dropped another match that had turned incredibly sour with no hope in sight of turning it around. Same crap as I've been dealing with this entire week, teammates just unable to survive, me singlehandedly holding down the crystal multiple times over, pulling enemies off it, etc. No hope that I'll ever hit diamond at this point, and even if I did the fact that diamond is even longer only makes me dread it. I had spent my entire day dropping horrendous matches until I finally decided to just push harder and stay in the game, only to be walled again and lose all my progress I just built up.

I just don't even care at this point. This is utter garbage. The matchmaking, the rank decay, the Ranked. community, all of it. Nothing about this is enjoyable or rewarding, not even remotely.

Shouldn't rule out the possiblity that he and certain other posters in this forum are part of these suspected discord cliques and they're just here to actively gaslight people over the existence of them and the integrity of PvP, as they've done with Frontlines and as they did with Feast. Not saying he or anyone else here is, but it would not surprise me. Again, I'm in PvP discords, I see a mere slice of what is actually happening behind the scenes.

Mate, are you going to make these posts every Day now? Silver players will get stuck at Silver. Gold players will get stuck in Gold. Plat Players will get Stuck at Plat and so on. (No amount of Forum posts will change that)

If you cant get out of Plat for such a long time, you might have reached your limit. Again: if the mode sours your mood so much you should consider taking the advice people gave you in your 50 other threads and take a break or quit the mode.

Agree, you can easily sync to try premade with your friends, not sure about your 85-90% stats, but no reason to rebate it. My percentages ARE NOT your chances to premade with your friends, so please avoid comments like "The willful ignorance on display that somehow you can't group up again".

What I meant, is that my chance, as a solo queue player, to have other people premade in my game, and trade win the other team, instead of my team, is about 44% for me, 55% for going the other team, and that, IF I get a group of players trying to premade every single game, that is not, so it will be more closer to 50, but obviously never completle balanced.

Everything else you think I was saying is incorrect or inaccurate, I will suggest for you to properly read the intention of my posts before to reply about things I did not say (with grammar issues included and apologies for that)

My friends don't play FFXIV anymore, I solo queue and still stuck in progressing the tiers. TBH I don't need to explain myself to you, your suggestion that because I don't agree to you, I am cheating is disgusting.

Look no mater what the people on this thread say ranking is all about luck, way match making is you can lose every game you ever play even if best in world, so don't listen to the people on thread, but also you leaving match is just so out of order.

It's 90% RNG (heavily weighted matchmaking), 10% you as a player. Because there is no carry potential, regardless of your job. Keep smashing your head against a wall and you'll break it eventually. That's what I've been telling myself, anyway. I'm more or less in the same boat. Up a star, down a star. Blah blah blah. Starting to wonder if the time spent is worth the effort. I keep forgetting adventurer plates exist anyway and that's the main reason for doing ranked lol

Nearly hit my ATH today of Plat 2, even had a win streak going

As of typing this, I am Plat 4 0 stars again. Same spot I was 8 days ago.

Great system you got there. Really enjoying every hour of my life wasted on this garbage. Gosh, systems where you LOSE HOURS of progress for things not entirely within your control are so fun and rewarding aren't they? Are you guys having FUN? Cuz I sure am! I love setting aside several hours a day to make significant progress and than lose it all due to bad luck. Great. System. Guys.

Great system you got there. Really enjoying every hour of my life wasted on this garbage. I'm not sure what you were expecting, most ranked modes are pretty trash, I enjoy it because of the thrill of the challenge, but some of you guys should just get the malmstones rewards and peace out. There is still a LOT of balancing to do, so sometimes it will be a very unfair fight. All we can hope for is rapid updates for PvP like 6.11 was.

I got to Diamond recently as Reaper, so if anyone here knows what it's like to be unfairly dogpiled, it would be me. I have damage and healing numbers that exceed tanks and healers in some matches because of how hard I get focused. Though, I am very proud to say my final win came from using the hysteria fear to move players off the objective, felt very poetic.

100% this, and like I said earlier, they’ve made SEVERAL posts about how people who play X job or Y job don’t deserve to be there, your not good. OP OP OP Unfair unfair unfair, yet admitted to using said “OP” or “broken” jobs and STILL being unable to rank or climb despite being a complete hypocrite.
In addition to the open admittance of intentionally quitting games, disconnecting after a “hopeless” fight.
Which by definition is throwing and “cheating” the match for someone else who may legitimately be trying their best even if their best is bad or terrible.

Straight out lies. I had multiple matches where i had to fight 4v5 with lesser combs than the enemy had and we still managed to win. I play Sage currently btw.

So just stop telling yourself its all the fault of the others.

I went to platinum Diamond going to Crystal now using a Summoner and I'm very proud that I didn't use an OP meta job to easy rank up. But after the changes in 6.11, I felt my summoner's damage is not as great as before. I really don't feel it that much. And yes the climb is hard if you use regular non meta jobs. Ranked games is 60% luck and 40% skill.

I honestly still think this class is sleeper meta. I'm pretty mediocre, but my Sage is halfway through Platinum in sub-50 wins (E: now Diamond 5 at 49 wins!), and more than a few of those games have been completely decided by the LB stuffing burst trains or forcing enemy disengagement before victory/overtime. OP has literally abandoned more games than I have played.

Where do you see player stats at for pvp?

The Crystalline Conflict section of your PVP profile shows your ranked victories. If you never did Feast, you can track your total match count via the 'Participate in...' achievement series - mine was already progressed over the years so alas, not very informative for me. I'm just keeping a rough head count on that one - I haven't gone any real losing streaks since I was experimenting with other jobs early on so there ain't no way it's >100 played yet.

Dude I guess luck was terrible because I literally lost 8 times in a row because of 1-2 people kept running in and just standing there or running into the open and just standing there it’s allot worst then you realize. Maybe mornings are fine but during night you can forget trying to climb. I’m a skilled player and even I can’t carry us to victory when that happens.

Some people fall, adapt, and triumph. Some just keep blaming the system thinking it's everyone else fault.

Reality is, its a bit of both..,
Ignore the subjective.
Everyone knows the System ain't perfect.
[And as its said before, a person who is top tier can get stuck, just like a person can get lucky and go up. just like a person who belongs there will stay there.]

There are many I have seen that ditch.
and many who don't realize that them dying first can't be helped if the enemy team prioritizes you.[as a BLM I know.., and only plan on switch class on a new season IF I get to Crystal on BLM alone.]
Felt stuck forever on Gold, wasn't the case.
Felt improvement on silver. Rn at platinum.
Going up, and down at times. but it is what it is.

My take, I see people ditch, complain. Be arses of themselves, and place ignore markers on each other. or I when they only been with me when they fail. and not when I streak for awhile. and people flat-out idling at the end cause the team is on our heels..,
and I reported them. every single on.
