Hey, I am wondering if anybody has read/heard something about any upcoming patch for PvP?
How does Square Enix usually handle these things?

Hopefully soon.
Knowing SE tho, they will probably patch it before every new season...
Most likely next year or two

Hope this image works. This is the 1 v 1 list/ tournament legal etc. GNB based off junction of who they're fighting. This was tested at the extent of average to high level play.
As a rpr, i 1v1 2-1 vs mnk, 2-0 vs rdm, 3-0 vs sam, 2-0 vs war.
monk only beat me because he somehow got lb before me.
the warrior fight took 7min but i won.
rpr is pretty good 1v1 duels. but not in any team combat
I'm a worldwide duelist. Currently all NA data centers. And PLD is the new GNB from last tier
Dunno who you're fighting. But it's not one of the top duelers for sure.
Wait, there is a dueling scene in FFXIV? I don't mean this as flack, I'm just honestly surprised that some people care with 1v1s being as unbalanced as they are and pretty much always have been.
The people you dueled must have been playing one-handed and with a BAC of 0.20 per cent. I can guarantee you that I wouldn't even have to use Recuperate once in a duel against a RPR as a RDM.
A Monk will always get LB before you, not "somehow", and should thus beat a RPR every single time. RDM can't be beaten by anything if played even remotely well. A SAM should outlast you simply because they have way more damage and you can't run from them. And a WAR can easily outheal any damage a RPR does, so yeah, idk what this one was doing to lose those duels.
It's worth noting, however, the game is not balanced for 1v1, and Yoshi was reluctant to even put it in the game for fear that people would complain about certain jobs being stronger or weaker in 1v1 when that's really not the goal of their design.
Eh, dueling matters very little regarding things like that. It's different in FFXIV because the vast majority of players has never cared about PvP and only participated when they "had to" because of rewards, making "you" part of one of the only groups who did care - in truly competitive PvP MMOs, like WoW, being a good duelist means little to nothing in rated BGs or arena and the same is going to be true here if PvP gets more popular.
And that's not even mentioning that 1v1s in this game pretty much stopped meaning anything in SB and it's even worse now with the job imbalance, individual jobs not having counters in general, no DR and streamlined kits & cc. In a 1v1 it's literally just pushing buttons when available and the stronger job will win 90% of the time, even when there's a noticeable difference in skill.
We definitely need a Battleground mode. It would make pvp more fun. Death match always seem more fun imo. 1 v 1 and 2 v 2 ranked arena. But also after balancing. Just my opinion.
What most classes need are weaving abilities that requires a fast inputs and skill. Simplifying pvp makes it very stale.
Can attest to this, even WHM and WAR can't beat it really. Had a rando in Wolves Den challenge me and we were just having a good chat about class balance and stuff so no ill intent, but he rocked me every match no matter what we threw up against him.
It's not just skill it's sheer unmitigated burst and without external pressure/groups able to focus on them they are just monstrously powerful, even without going into whiteshift.
That's super neat. I never cared much for pvp until now so I'm curious about this but I'll wait til classes like GNB have had a balance patch before I bother. Maybe I just don't understand it but GNB seems to just have a terrible kit imo. Then again 1v1 is probably different with Tank/Healer because you're not getting stunlocked into oblivion and LB'd to death haha
I don't think classes need to be balanced for CC very much because as a 5v5 experience you will never hard-require to play the best class to win. A few twinks here and there but nothing major really needs to change.
Frontline is where the balance is currently completely screwed. Summoners and white mages need a nerf, and melee needs a survival buff.
If they don't hotfix whm tomorrow and nerf all 1 shot skills the pvp mode will be dead within weeks.
I absolutely agree with both points. While frontlines can be fun, I feel like the current PvP would really benefit from a standard 10v10 / 15v15 medium scale battleground with normal, non-RNG objectives. Hopefully we'll see something like this in the future, aside from more CC maps.
