Rampant Cheating in PvP

I really hope that SE has a plan to deal with all the cheats that have started to crop up just 4-5 days into CC (and yes I know they existed before). And this is just the first week, I have no doubt these cheats would only advance as the seasons progress. These cheats range from triggers to straight up hacks.

These are getting to the point where you can't even report people anymore because you can't even really differentiate if they are lucky/skilled or cheating, but the fact that the cheat exists will always be at the back of your mind.

In Feast while cheating did happen, it wasn't as impactful since player skill was still a huge part of winning. With CC however, the abilities are more impactful, such that the player can be doing nothing most of the game but as long as the cheats get their abilities off they can still win the match.

On top of that, with the current ranking system people are already wintrading. In Feast wintrading did happen but it largely wasn't even worth for any skilled player due to the time investment needed. In CC however someone can just sit on the same job as diamond 5 or crystal 0 and feed.

I really hope that until SE resolves cheating that the top 100 rewards stay "casual". Eventually if the game mode is just all cheaters I don't see the point in playing.

Yeah, 3rd match of the day was a RDM that was using the MP/GCD/immune to CC stuff and he literally 1v5'd the entire team several times cause we couldn't CC him at all but he got to dump his entire kit in one GCD which silences, binds, healing reduction, and does a bucket load of damage.

EDIT: Also reporting in this game is overly complicated. So even if you want to report it takes a process.

I don't know why SE doesn't just auto detect this stuff and insta kick. Like there should be no instance where the player moves under their own will while bound.

They want PVP to be successful and they realise it with no anti-cheat or systems....brain dead decision.

It's not SE's fault that players cheat. It's the players fault.

People want the bragging rights but don't want to put in the work to do it legitamitely.
They cry "We want more challenging content" then use third party software to make it as easy as possible.

its square enix's fault for not having any kind of validation to players actions on the server's side. it doesnt even try to flag anything suspicious.

oh you used a skill that shoulve been on cooldown? moved when stun/bound? moved at a rate higher than the usual movement speed? hm.


literally fflogs puts more effort into taking down/banning cheaters than square enix does

I think the only issue is that adding validation/encryption to data transfers to reduce/prevent cheating can also increase the amount of lag, and people already complain about the server response time feeling sluggish in PvP.

At this point I think it's something they need to implement regardless, at least for PvP.

Yes, and no. SE needs to deter people from cheating through an anti-cheat system (which isn't a perfect deterrent) but it's malms better than what they're currently doing.

i mean they could flag people at the end of a match, the battle log is right there

It would work for some forms of cheating like the CC ignoring because moving/taking actions while stunned would be an obvious red flag.

More lowkey stuff like automated action execution or ignoring animation/OGCD delays might be harder to pin down, though.

Or easier, depending on the delay. If I'm hitting the button for my LB and the WHM who isn't aiming at me instantly polymorphs me, that's a red flag. Same if a player attacking somebody else instantly stuns me.

Every Day the cheating is allowed to continue, the more the rewards lose their value and the more SE risks that the mode dies again. "Why bother? There are cheaters everywhere."

If that's really the case then why does pvp feel so clunky and full of impredictable delays and inconsistent behaviors? For instance whether MCH lb actually goes off instantly or give enough time for the target to shield up is a crapshoot. Or still managing to hit people just after they got behind a wall and many other similar cases that Iwouldn't expect if the client was authoritative.

Another example is when you use scatter shot, people get pushed back a good half a second later. Good luck trying to control in which direction when they move around so quickly.

I'm not sure there is rampant cheating, i think it's just that the netcode is catastrophically bad and inadequate for how twitchy the gameplay is trying to be.

You mean the ranked mode rank plates and top 100 plates?

The real rewards are in the series pass and that is reward scaled to be comfortably get you everything as a very casual player or bad player. It's just faster if you play more or win more.
It's also the attraction of the new mode. Under the old system why would you bother at all, with this new system you can get stuff without having to spend lots of time or being a Crystal level player.

Thinking more about it, i wonder if they implemented pvp on a peer to peer way, with just the player clients communicating directly. This would give the clunkiness of a fully authoritative server with the lack of cheat protection of a fully authoritative client. The worst of both worlds. But cheap on the server side, hence the extremely short queues (there must be a LOT of matches in play at any given time)

I don't understand how they don't anticipate this. This was such a half-assed patch. The only thing that came out good was the alliance raid

uh what? of course cheating is the players fault. but following your analogy, there wouldnt be any "your honor". everyone would be speeding and you would get no tickets because nobody cared to enforce their own rules. if a rule isnt even attempted to be enforced it might as well not exist

It is their fault in the sense that it should be a basic expectation that people will inevitably try to cheat in a game; particularly in MMOs where there's potentially real money to be made, yet they didn't take any precautions to prevent it, nor are they making much of an effort to stop it.

i dont think thers that much cheating either, at least outside the highest ranks. i dont think ive ever experienced it myself since like you say the netcode is so bad its hard to tell when its a delay or something else.


however, seeing various clips of blatantly obvious stuff like stunned players moving, ppl moving fast with guard up, etc. its just strange that they didnt even have some validation or anything. theyre already logging every event in the game and in fact GMs often use the battle/chat log to determine some griefing reports, so why wouldnt they add it to pvp which attracts cheaters in pretty much every game?

Is there are hack that makes you immune to CC.
I swear, there's a dragoon (easy to recognize, thanks to new portrait... hers' quite unique) I can't seem to be able to CC. Like, no matter what I do, she's unaffected. So either 100% of all my CC attempt were exactly right after she cleansed herself or I missed something about dragoons.

Sadly, it's unlikely that SE will do anything about it when they've never bothered to in the past. It doesn't exactly make me look forward to premade ranked, although it actually has some real potential this time around, unlike Feast.

Yep, there is. You're not exactly immune, because it still registers, it just doesn't do anything.

my biggest complaint is when you are behind cover and the other team is hitting you behind cover when they cannot see you at all and also DRG players that are jumping every 2 secs and hitting the entire team with Geirskogul when they are spread out enough to not get hit by it and the speed hacks, the ability to pop a healing pot when you are slamming them for damage and for some reason they are not taking damage and just standing there poping there healing pot., not taking any damage at all even when there is no PLD on the other team.. you tell me that a legit player has a chance to get to crystal oh and the top 100 players are trade winning and using a smurf account to keep other players out from crystal...yeah real legit gameplay. Makes the legit players want to give up and the funny part is it's the same top 100 folks from every part of PvP in this game. When is SE going to pay attention to this there is no way the same group of players is always in the top 100 in every variation of PvP in this game and SE has not thought there is something fishy going on?

Another thing that make matters worse:
Reporting system in this game is made to discourage reports.

They expect us to fill up tax report form and then... Nothing happens.

PvP, for example , should have an easy accessible box not unlike the commendation one, where you just select a player and a reason (where the game can let you choose most common ways of cheating).
