No matter what people will still be angry. I for one enjoy the neighborhood life of the housing and actively try to make the wards I'm in active. To the people complaining of dead wards, are you actively trying to make friends in the wards? Visit other people's places? Relax and chat in them? Or are you just popping in and out, running past houses and not even looking inside them and seeing their owners designs?

And there are those who have tried for years and succeeded. Appartments are a thing but people want more. Maybe islands will solve the instanced housing issue but I bet people still won't like the fix. If people want housing then allow the demolition again. Wards and plots will open.

Do you honestly think half the people posting are going to actively use their housing plot or just make something then rarely visit it ever again loke so many plots in the older districts? If they have been laying for years then they would have a house. Simple as that. From what I'm seeing they want ine when it's convenient for them instead of basically trying to farm a house like a relic weapon or a new raid.

This is some real "got mine," mentality.

I think you know that patience does not pay off all of the time.

Just because you or myself or someone else got lucky does not mean we should lose sympathy for players who will have to wait longer and the very possible scenario will never get to own a plot, and then basically pat them on the shoulder and say "be patient" when really we mean, "I got what I wanted. Too bad for you."
Every player who wants to should be able to experience housing, without too much of an issue. Apartments are too expensive for bare minimum IMO but that's another topic.

Dead wards = lack of visible players around. I for one, do hang outside of my FC house because it's pretty and not a bunch of random items placed out front or inside.

We regularly have events and 3 statics that gather every other evening and our meeting spot is the FC house, crafting bell and MB right by it makes it more of a convenience.

My shared house is me and my sister and we are constantly switching up the decor. I rarely see anyone outside though. And when I do, it's the same 2 or 3 people.

Players will stay angry because:
1) Limited housing.
2) Bots are allowed to own entire wards and RMT on off sites and it's not always obvious when it's a click bot.

I think if more personal housing plots and wards dedicated to personal housing opened up- it wouldn't help ease the entire situation but it could help loosen the belt notch a little.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with instanced housing in addition to wards. In fact, I believe it's a necessary addition to the game and would personally love being able to upgrade the floor plan of my apartment to that of an existing house. I'd be more than happy to pay the current full price of the ward house of the corresponding size to get this.

Adding actual housing options with interior decorating as ward houses have now to Island Sanctuaries would be an awesome. Hell, I wouldn't even begrudge the money I spent on a ward house if they made actual housing on Island Sanctuaries free for all comers.

I will say this and keep saying it. With the demolition timer off atm it 100% is harder. That's on SE and Yoshi being nice during this long pandemic. I've had friends change servers right before endwalker to get a house.l and that wasn't to long ago. I scanned wards and camped placards during the start of shadowbringers when the population spiked and got one. 100% if you were actively trying to get a house for years you would have one. Maybe not the house you originally wanted but a house none the less.

Right now it's close to impossible but instead of adding wards shorted the demolition timer to 20days instead if 35 and you will plots open up like last time the timer was actively being used

This is exactly what SE does though. The steps to previous relics are always nerfed and shortened to make it easier to get after they've been out for a while, so players can catch up. Savages get easier from Echo being added to them and the restrictions on loot being lifted. Everything is slowly made easier to obtain so players can catch up without needing to be on the cutting edge all the time.

Who are you to say they won't use their houses often? Not everyone uses their homes for RP, sure, but it doesn't mean people actively abandon it. Plenty of people want their own place to decorate, hang out in, craft and hide in, ect.

Since when did FF14 work like other games? What other game launches fails then turns it around and becomes successful? Housing is a luxury like relic weapons and extreme raids and savages. I'm all for the lottery system. It's what people wanted. One hiccup and everyone is over reacting. My expectation for islands is gardening. That's it. That's pretty low expectations compared to some of the ideas going around. I'm sorry my view differs. I have read everyone else's views yet when I shared a different view I get toxic replies and insulted? I see your points if they do do instanced housing I'll accept it and move on. I agree it was very unhealthy clicking that placard and I have nightmares about it still.

To sum it up. Lottery system good (after fixing hiccups which they said will take 3 to 5 days)
The demolishon timer should be turned on and more places will open. I don't agree with the ward segregation between fc and private but I get why it was done.

Seems like you weren't patient enough to read the entire update on the housing issue. The lottery data will include the players who already chose to get their gil refunded.

It's already been stated by the devs: "FFXIV wouldn't exist without WoW" (not direct quote, but you get the gist). Plenty of MMOs are also successful and gasp.. have working housing! Even games that aren't as big and successful as XIV, still have adequate housing! So where's the excuse? Yes, XIV being successful after a failed launch is huge - but I don't give a hoot if the systems currently in place are not working as well as they should be and the developers have dug their heels in because "well we want a community!" whilst at the same time, making the game more single player anyways.

One thing you have to understand is that the reaction isn't over "one hiccup". The reaction is because the housing system is broken, limited, and rampant with RMT while SE puts in systems with loopholes that can be abused for years. They make job changes and strip away complexity for years. They leave broken things broken. They tell everyone "well, go get an apartment" when they are clearer inferior and lesser to houses. Sorry, but they are. This reaction is YEARS of people being frustrated with SE's lack of care. We pay a sub for this game, we should be able to enjoy the features it advertises. Yet here we are.

Surely it would only be beneficial for the RP community if those of us with no interest in housing RP get instanced houses instead? Assuming the wards are not removed along with the addition of real instanced houses it seems to me the wards would only get livelier if only those that actually seek shared housing spaces bought a place in them.

I took my gil out it was first untill later I found out that number 0 was not a number.... I am really pissed now I give a f. about their have not removed whatever thign that is frigggen slick way to get away with this...

Limited number of small apartments.

And because the instance server can't handle it all. It is already running every dungeon/raid/trial that goes on simultaneously, plus all the apartments, private chambers, housing interiors, etc.

There is a concern for exclusivity with that. People trying to get into the non-instanced ward to live in. It would be a weird balance but hey if it works it works. I keep saying it but I feel like there are to many stagnant wards bc of the demolishing timer still being on pause

this is an entitlement post "i got a house so your problem is solved and stop complaining" 1 out of 1000 people in the game have a house thats the ratio yet all of us pay the same sub. what makes others unworthy of enjoying the game to its limits ? are the ones with housing paying more for their sub ? or the same as everyone else who cant get to enjoy housing ?

Sorry that we don't have all the time in the world to stay online and camp for a placard and win by chance, your argument is flawed because there's people out there trying to get a house and not being able to because of this outdated method SE is using, no one here is asking SE to just hand out houses as you sugggested with your relic commentary, we want a system that works and is fair for everyone and the majority is completely against the current system, I want a house for at least 4 years and I didn't stop playing the game, I did not get a house, what about that? This is by no means a solution to the housing problem. But I will give you a tip for when the small FC plots are again open for personal housing. Don't go for first, middle, or last wards, those are the ones most people go for. And get one on a subdivision ward, those are not as popular. Once you get a home, you will start seeing more open plots, even for M or L, because your mind will not be focused on your frustration over not yet owning one. Our first house was the hardest to get, we managed to secure two mediums (first one was far from MB so we moved again), and now a Large.

Tbh, there is a higher chance of getting a house when new wards are released because most people are fixated on the idea of owning a Mansion. So small plots get often ignored.

Hope they open more wards for personal housing soon.

Can't whisper someone who is never online when you're online.

Can't make friends to send a mail to contact someone who is never online when you're online.

Not everyone is looking to be social with their housing, either. Do you leave your doors unlocked all the time on your real life home with a big sign in your front yard saying "Welcome! Come in anytime you want"?

Adding in instanced housing will remove the demand for houses and leave more who do want the social experience you describe (not that they are likely to get it when the other owners aren't online at the same time, or if they are they're likely in other zones doing other content).

The demo timer has nothing to do with wards being stagnant. They were just as stagnant when the demo timer was active.

Splitting up housing into 240 different locations per world does. There could be 100 other players in Mist right now and I wouldn't see a single one of them because they are not in my ward and I am not in theirs.

Wards are stagnant because the player population for each ward is diluted.

So instancing everything on top of eachother would help with socializing how exactly? You move from open areas to one that has hundreds of houses layered on top of eachother. If you think the demo timer being paused for so long hasn't affected the housing situation I'd love to hear your reasoning more in depth. When the timer was going and I was looking for a home I'd see at least 4 to 8plots become available a week per residential disctrict.

If the player population for each ward is diluted then how come there aren't open plots? Instancing all districts into one, then placing all the homes on top of eachother seems like taking what we have now and funneling it into a tiny space. How can anyone socialize when every house is in its down instance. You say not everyone wants to socialize then make claims about increasing socializing so which is it to you?

There is a distinct difference in our way of thinking. First that math is wrong. Second you cant join an FC to enjoy housing, make your own room, or buy an appartment to fully enjoy housing? You need and must have your own private large estate? You are the one using words like unworthy and entitlement. Chances are the ones with houses are playing an aspect of the game more then others so we csn use your logic and compare housing to mount grinding, titles, pvp rank, raid gear, and more. Not everyone plays a game for the same reason.This was originally to show appreciation to those people who were calm and patient with SE to fix what happened with the lottery.

Originally this was to thank people who were patient and didn't flame SE who were actively looking to fix the issue but this has turn into something else entirely now. It's kind of surprising people aren't happy about a lottery system once it's all up and fixed. Some people lost but that's how a lottery works. The bug should fix the zero issue so those who got the bug no longer lost. Is showing appreciation to people who stayed calm and patiently waited for SE to fix the issue rubbing their noses in it or insensitive or is going at SE and Yoshi P for trying their best to appease everyone and fix the issue insensitive to them?

The issue will be fixed correctly and in a very fair manner. Houses will be lotteries off agaib and in many more districts from relocations, and whenever the housing timer is unpaused more will cycle through the system. The community wanted a lotto system so here it is and it is fair

Housing Elitism is hilarious to me.

Patience. Perseverance. That makes them more worthy. At least prior to the lottery.

They are the people that camped out for dozens upon dozens of hours clicking on a placard to get their house. I should know. I did it. I have a friend that clicked for 12 hours or more at a time on several houses, before they got one. I clicked for hours on them.

When I finally got my house, it was because someone swooped in and relocated, and was kind enough to tell where their prior plot was. I then went to bed. I woke up at around the 8 hour mark, started clicking, and got it within two hours. Because I kept trying. I didn't sit and complain. I played the tedious bid game and it paid off.

Then I managed to relocate later on to a better plot. And again to the current Small I have.

I have a character on Balmung, where housing is as bad as it gets on Crystal. I woke up at 5am on 6.1 patch day when the new stuff opened. All so I could get an apartment on Balmung.

Did I win the lottery? Yeah I did. I have an FC I just started in January. Why? Because someone I trusted more than anyone in the world stabbed me in the back and stole my previous FC out from under me. I put my gil together so I could bid on a Mansion, something I have never had before. And one of those bids won.

Did I get it easy? Not at all. I checked all 18 wards on Wednesday and wrote down every bid count. I did it again on Friday to update. I used that data to look at the remaining plots with a single bid. I identified the plot that had the least amount of bids across all wards on my world. I identified the ward that had the least overall bids.

Where that data lined up, I made my bids. And I won. Because I did like everyone was doing before 6.1. I worked hard and I had patience.

Will that work for everyone? No. There isn't enough housing to go around. Instanced housing isn't going to work without increasing the costs. Is it fair? Not really, but you can't expect there to be one house for millions of characters in this game.

Can SE do things to fix this? Yes.
Will they do what is necessary to fix this? Probably not.

#1: All those grandfathered in with the change in Stormblood need to be made to relinquish their plots to the lottery. I don't care if they have maintained them all this time. Give them a refund for the cost.

#2: They need to start banning people exploiting the system. I've seen housing in Oceania where FCs are taking dozens of housing plots from mass transferring alts and FCs over to the server. But it's technically legal, so nothing will be done about it. Even if they are taking over entire wards.

#3: Hard rules and restrictions need to be put into place and enforced. No grandfathering anymore.
1 House per service account.
1 Apartment per world per service account. No more 1 apartment per character.
Apartments need to be subject to the same demolition timer as Housing. No more "once you own it, it's yours forever"

I don't know any of my friends who want to RP as homeless people. No matter what you say is "fair" someone always gets the short end of the stick. Including the most recent change. That was me, because I was prepared for the housing upgrade and logged in first. Under normal circumstances, I'd have to say SoL to you, except I wouldn't because I'm not a jerk.

Instead, people should recognize this as evidence that almost no one wants to live in the smalls and argue for instanced housing instead, rather than considering this dumpster fire a necessary evil when it is more than likely purely an insane bueracratic decision made by SE. None of these wards should have been FC restricted, it shouldn't have been a retroactive ward change and they shouldn't have been lotteries either, for the sake of keeping "fairness" consistent to anyone who's decided to play the game from the start. Because.. most of these plots aren't bugged? Nobody bid on them, because they are small. See the plot numbers? I can go down the list and show you "to prove my point" that somehow miraculously I guess all the small houses are "bugged" and all the medium and large plots have been consumed by FCs. This is what the FC wards look like. It does prove my point. That's why I posted it. I bought an FC house. The fact that they are FC limited is part of the issue, but in general everyone will be upset until they change how player housing can be distributed, which is again to say instanced housing.

The wards will be dead. The more wards they add, the more dead and empty they will become. The less larges and mediums available at all, the more annoyed everyone will be that there isn't instanced housing.

The FC wards DO look like that, because we couldn't get lottery results from at the end. There were only about 6 or so that were able to be purchased (at random), the rest of them are bugged - at least in my data center - and I bet it's not much different anywhere else. I've been to just about every one of them just in my ward where I put a bid in, and they are all showing no participants in the results, while also showing a number of participants on the placard.

But continue the propaganda run, it will look much different once the results are able to be filled. :rolleyes:

I don't disagree that housing needs to be changed - FCFS and lottery are both not the answer.

You are on something if you think people want the smalls. You really are totally out of touch. The only reason most people wanted smalls in the first place was so that theyd have a chance to relocate to something bigger. The only way these housing wards will fill up is with shell FCs.

this is not due to a bug. look at the spots of the consumed houses. They are almost exclusively medium and large houses. Maybe YOU should stop with the propaganda; these are dead wards; and they'll more or less continue to be dead and/or filled with people who dont really want whatever is left, but just wanted to have a small in the off chance that they ever decide to get rid of the stupid lottery system. accusing me of looking out the window when its scenic does not change the fact that these are the houses people bid on and almost nothing else; knowing full well the smalls would not be gone even if they lost

They are the people that camped out for dozens upon dozens of hours clicking on a placard to get their house. I should know. I did it. I have a friend that clicked for 12 hours or more at a time on several houses, before they got one. I clicked for hours on them.

If you or a friend anecdotally decided that you should spend literal days of your life trying to beat a dozen script-running bots, then yes, you deserved to win that house in the same way that someone who was wrongfully convicted of a crime and sent to prison deserves compensation.
That person never should have had that happen to them, and neither should you, nor anyone else.
