Says you started in 2011. It took you this long to come to this decision? Or did you just not want one for years when they were easily available?
I feel the same way
I already give up on housing matter on day 1 and this lottery didnt change much of my matter regarding that, i respect the new system but i just cant particpate in housing because it will keep you subbed, cant handle that stress
I mean the chance of getting a personal now is basically 0, if you got hit by the "0 participants" bug in Ishgard or if you just lost, you are basically doomed because every other plot will be overwhelmed with tickets, especially in Mist or LB, so yeah, except if you have a dummy FC to bid with, dont expect any house.
Imagine seeing all the cool houses and wanting to decorate your own. Sorry, this portion of a game is not available to you because you picked old, very populated server :D
So to sum up all the issues with how they did this:
1) FCs want mediums and larges, private buyers want smalls and maybe mediums for the most part. So by using even distribution across all the wards they artificially restricted housing to private buyers. This resulted in 33 people stacking on one house in ward 19 at plot 1.
2) The housing lotto should not have been done per property for private buying. They should have had a stand setup where everyone lottos for a house of a specific size. That way multiple winners can be announced and they get assigned one of the homes randomly. Even if you don't get that plot that is right next to the market board, at least you have a higher chance of obtaining a home than what they did, which forced most people to naively bid on the same few plots.
Those were the two big issues with how this lotto was done. I mean there's unsold smalls all over in the lower wards.
Or you could simply keep expectations at a level a little lower than 'House or bust' if you decide to try and purchase a plot.
I'm lucky enough to own a mansion, so I'm not speaking from the perspective of bias.
The housing system is awful. Making an entire portion of the game which receives active development based on RNG is a very questionable approach. We have other MMO's out there - such as ESO - which provide player housing to every player who desires it. FFXIV should have embraced an instanced housing system long ago because it's the sort of thing a lot of people consider a necessity in this day and age in games that offer the equivalent of the feature.
As time has gone on, it has become harder rather than easier for people to acquire a house. So I can completely understand the desire for people to throw in the towel at this point.
Agreed, despite what she says, housing is a massive part of the game for a lot of people, that includes me, so I can feel for people who like it and are simply unable to get a house at all, the system was atrocious already with the placard camping, instant relo was decent-ish, but the lottery system really does take the cake, this is the absolutely worst system there ever was, you get 3 chances at a house monthly, which will probably end up with 100 or more tickets on them, it's basically impossible after the first 2 or 3 waves to get anything at all, and even in those first waves, you are still agaisnt 10 people or more so its all RNG.
Its nice to pay for a sub and have the funds go towards developing content you are denied access to I guess.
If you are in a FC only leader and his inner circle are allowed to furnish it, you can only have a small square box to put few items inside.
Ironically crafters are also screwed by this design as market for craftable furniture is artificially capped.
The bug has made things worse for today but let's be real, the forum would have been full of complaining threads from people who lost regardless. I have my personal and FC house sorted now and I can say the system as it is sucks because there is not enough supply of medium and large plots. I am still hoping to god that the island sanctuary can be some sort of replacement. Housing caused me so much anxiety, I don't want other people to deal with that I just want us all making cool houses and showing them off to one another.
I bid on a personal house (i was #6) for a smol plot and lost, got my gils back and go on about my day *shrug
It is what it is. My fc won the large plot so i still have my fc room .
or idk maybe if you put something in the game like this, every player should be able to get one, period. This exclusivity thing is stupid. I pay a sub to play just like everyone else, I have the gil, why should I be blocked from participating in this part of the game? Here is the answer, I shoudlnt, no one should be.
Actually It was primarily because of unused assets. When they were FC only most of the wards on my world were sparsely populated. However it wasn't just the FC only requirement that caused it. Back then the prices were such that FC's often struggled to buy anything larger than a small plot.
Fast forward to now with gil inflation because the game generates far more gil than it takes out of circulation via fees and NPC transactions, Individual players can easily afford the price of a home themselves. Many of these players created shell FC's because they want to try using airship/submarine voyages and company workshop crafts for their own personal profit and spammed all over this forum for years that their "FC" needs a house.
It is possible when they made the decision for the ward split that they simply looked at the overall number of FC's on each world and didn't filter to only show ones that met requirements to actually buy a plot. Or they did it intentionally to try and get these tiny shell/private FC's to dissolve and try to get ppl to actually make friends...
I really hope these island sanctuaries are a type of instanced housing. I also want to respond to all the people saying housing was only meant for fc, if that were true why have housing items especially outdoor ones, for holiday events? Even if it initially was for FC only, it isn’t now. I have a small house I’m sharing storage with my RL family members because they only have fc rooms and apartments. There is no outdoor storage for apartments or fc rooms.
Instanced housing needs to happen. It’s the real fair system, not a lottery. The problem is as long as people have houses they will stay subbed, instanced housing means if you unsub you wont lose your house. Im starting to wonder if that’s the real reason they don’t add instanced housing. I also play ESO and it definitely has way better housing than ffxiv.
And as a result many players that forego being in a FC and create their own for the sake of getting a house.
What is accomplished? Nothing. Personal housing still ends up existing under the thin veneer of FC.
How many FCs with a house currently give all their members free access to all the features that come with FC housing? I'd be surprised if it's more than 10%. The housing features are generally reserved for the officers, sometimes for selfish reasons and sometimes for legitimate ones. Right back to it may as well be personal housing.
Even with all the cries of "not even my FC can get a house", more than 50% of available plots had zero entries on most worlds. Why?
Because players want personal housing, not FC housing. The demand for FC housing just is not there.
That price was an attempt to bleed legacy gil from the world economies.
They have said countless times due to server restrictions they can't just make infinite instanced housing. Calling them liars isn't going to help. Island Sanctuary won't be nearly as detailed as actual housing, nor should it because then why have housing wards?
Its not like everybody would be sitting in their house instances all the time. If you go into some ward and enter random houses there is nobody here. I guess only the exteriors still have to be kept in memory if at least single person is in the ward somewhere outside, if their implementation already has the empty house interiors loaded its dumb.
I have nothing else to do in game but housing. I bid, I lost. I unsub I guess.
Housing in MMOs is stupid. Limited housing in MMOs is absurd. 75% being reserved for FCs is bullshit. Not my thing and I really don't care, but I would never design a system like this, it's really bad.
I have a house in ESO but found getting furniture to suck. Getting gold was really, really annoying.
I preferred EQ2's houses. The instance doesn't spin up til someone opens the door. The item placement was superior. I had multiple mansions, all had balconies for outdoor furnishings. Didn't need a yard.
They have the system in place, why they can't add instanced, gated houses I'll never know. The neighborhood feel is overrated when you never see your neighbors.
It is a code error.
it has been noted as a major problem
it will be fixed.
PATIENCE.
This might be true, however the only way to get these gaming companies to change is to speak with your wallet, and even then sometimes the really stubborn ones still refuse to listen. But if player housing, a feature of the game that many are locked out of, is enough of an issue for players, I see no reason why speaking with their wallet to let SE know how they feel is extreme. This isn't 20 years ago where the number of good games is a very limited field. There are so many good games out there with outstanding game play, as a player when you choose to invest in a game like FF14, you're basically saying "no" to all those other games. For that kind of a statement, FF14 better be delivering a world class experience. In some ways they do, in regards to housing they do not and it's enough for some players to spend their valuable time in some of those other games.
My FC was lucky to get a house and I have a room there, now. That and my apartment will have to do because I'll never be able to get a house of my own. The housing system in this game is easily the worst I've ever personally had to contend with.
personally, I don't actually see them doing anything as bold as a rollback. I actually have a feeling they won't do anything more than fix the bug, apologize, and restart the lottery
What I can imagine though is they may increase the amount of wards. On servers not run by S-E they just set it to max and walked away which is 30 and we're at 24
so they could add like 3 wards which would actually be 15 since every district would get them and they could maybe notice how barren the FC wards are and drop FC exclusive down to like 8 or 10 and make the middle wards mixed which would open up an absolute boatload of ishgard small houses for new buyers. IMO a new buyer should not turn their nose up at small houses.
There is literally no way they can make this not bad but they can definitely do something to make it not all bad, just a matter of will they?

I've lost motivation to play today, but I'm capped on tomes and have most of my weekly stuff done so probably going to take a couple of days off and hope things resolve in a positive way.
You know the dev team is calling your bluffs on this right. Nobody is unsubbing because they didn't get a plot. And even if they did, Yoshida encourages you take breaks from the game if you're burnt out with nothing to do. What were you people doing for years when countless wards were added to them game that you could just go up to and buy? What did you expect to come of this thread anyway, having a community manager show up going "No wait please don't go, we'll add 50 more wards!"
People have been waiting for new housing for like 4 years. And when the devs finally got off their ass and decided to grace us with more wards, the system shat itself because the devs don't know how to make a random number generator. Something that was already done with /dice might I add. Even the monkeys at Bethesda have better QA. If you have a 100% to hit something in fallout, you are gonna hit it. Here if you have 100% chance to get a house, you lose to an imaginary man with their 0 ticket. Plates are in beta, aka they are expected to have some glitches, but even something in literal beta is faring better than the housing system. How did it go so wrong? Incompetence is the only answer.
I can't speak for all players, but my patience has ran out. At least with the old stay up all night clicking on sign method, if you win it, you win it. This system only has losers. Yoshi-p quickly announced compensation for log in queues during ew release, I think I speak on behalf of many players we fully expect something similar here. This was people's best chance to get a new house. If we have to wait half a decade for crysatarium housing to get another chance, players are going to be very unhappy, me included.
me too, it really demotivated me from playing..... I haven't played since the housing bug....it upset me so much and now I am waiting for a solution...
