Revert Samurai Changes

Though I fully appreciate the desire to keep the game accessible to new comers, you have a duty to your existing player base.

With one fell swoop you have taken the favourite class of countless players and not only ruined any semblance of pleasure we had from playing it, but have also shown complete disregard for the hours spent honing the skills to play it well and with pride.

I'm sure many would consider what I'm about to say as melodramatic, but after my 8 years of playing this game I have never felt so disrespected for my time and for the effort I've put into mastering something. It honestly feels like you don't care about the veterans who have stood by this game and beckoned countless others to join your player base.

This was never about action/button bloat and to be told that is INSULTING. This isn't even about Samurai at this point. It feels like you simply wish to cater to newer players to the extent that you are willing to give them power without truly giving them a sense of accomplishment. This is an insufferably hollow direction to take the game.

I really, really do not want to unsub. I have made countless friends, including my wife playing this game as well as going to 3 fan fests, but I can't continue to condone this disregard for your experienced players. You are walking the exact same path that lead the exodus of wow and it's truly painful to witness.

I only been playing for 6 months maybe ( joined FFXIV at end of ShB ), no where near as long as 8 years and I thought I was passionate about Samurai...

Hoping for change is not where I draw the line, at this point I demand it... cause I agree it was " insulting ". Label me entitled idc, I never wanted any of these changes. I was content the way our SAM was at patch 6.08, I agree with your post mhm

This exactly. These changes are an insult to all current players. After FFXIV has recently got a boost in numbers, SE are trying to simplify mechanics to make everything more widely accessible without realizing what drew all these new players in the first place. Change your job balancing ideology, as it is a degrading mentality of all the paying consumers of your game.

Agree with the post. Lately with FFXIV I have felt betrayed multiple times, but I stuck with it because there is always some positives. However, with these Samurai changes, I no longer feel that way. Playing some of the more recent jobs that were touched by square, I only fear what's to come in the future. I feel as if the developers are talking to us from a mountain, where we can hear them, but they can't hear us.

I still can't believe this change. It feels so tone deaf it reminds me of a new ability they were going to add to SAM before Endwalker release...

Do you all remember when they were going to add a 3rd follow up attack to Fuga/Fuko that would give the 3rd Sen coin? AOE! It made it to the media tour!

Makes me wonder if the people behind the changes to Samurai actually do play it.

I really appreciate this comment. If anything it shows that as a newer player, you enjoyed the complexity the class had to offer, and not the dumbed down farce that it is now. Though 6 months is a decent chunk of time, I think there's a lot more newer players that could do with having their voices be heard as I imagine most who understand this change won't like the direction it indicates SE is taking for the game's future.

it is true Kaiten have to return, in PvE Samurai feels wrong, dull and stupid.. like lvl50 but with all that new Kenki/Ogi stuff for no reason, Kaiten was that reason though there are also good changes to the Samurai of 6.1 Tenka Goken for example is now a circle AoE, while true it also challenges veteran muscle memory but in a Good Way in my Opinion..
also funnily enough.. PvP Samurai rocks now.. so well.. I.. jumped to PvP until Kaiten is back!

Coming into FFXIV lost on what activity I wanted to delve into, I knew regardless of my choice want to main SAM. The first FC I joined I got told I sucked as DPS... not wanting to fall into a victim mentality I wanted to proof myself wrong.

I practiced hours and days at the striking dummy... to the point I don't even need to look at my Hotbars to help me focus purely on mechanics. The feeling of accomplishment I had to see my practice bearing fruit, finishing my first Savage Raid, E9S, at the time even with Echo at Lv80 was amazing.

I got parse shamed, but I didn't care, I had a lot of fun. I'll improve and I'll keep practicing. Thus it didn't stop there, I started helping random PF parties and players clear E9S E10S and E11S, the savage fights I was struggling with.


I joined a random E9S party one day to help out and I remembered it like yesterday... where we got questioned " why 2 Samurai's? " and sure that was not optimal, but this Samurai had the E12S chest piece I didn't have nor cleared... must be more experienced then me let me watch how this SAM does the fight.

And as soon was the boss wanted blast us with " Wide Angle ", the SAM moved in such manners that I didn't knew was safe. " Like we can do this? " making me learn the concept of " Melee Uptime ". We wiped but I was like " I should mimic this person "... and sure enough I started performing better and better, and then came " Anti-Air " and again the SAM revealed more ways of handling it then spamming Enpi. I even thanked the Sam for indirectly teaching me.


That was the moment for me where realized the complexity of performing my rotation, with the challenge of having as much up-time possible that made Samurai INFINITELY more enjoyable.


My parses aren't stellar, but I could care less... I proven I am worth raiding with, and the difficulty of Samurai as low as people meme it to be? helped push me to become a better player. Often times I don't get compliments in real life, but Samurai felt so satisfying to execute that it even helps my depression ever so slightly.

Removing and dumbing down the complexity I see does not help any of this, it just does the opposite, and I feel like it just devalues every experience I went through both the good and the bad. That's what hit me so much reading your post... From my 6 months to your 8 years...I can only imagine what I missed out on, but more so what more will be missed on if things change for the worse, and I refuse to have it change for the worse.

thinking of "reducing button bloat" on Samurai.. I just have the idea of turning Tsubamegaeshi into a trait so you just double tab Iaijutsu, maybe removing Fuga and give us Fuko from the start, making space for future for 7.0 where we get a Single Target Ogi, which I call right now. These are changes I would think of when changing Samurai but Kaiten is an active button, removing that makes seriously no sense and makes me question if they really play the game? because in 2.4 when NIN launched funnily similar things happened where the player had a better rotation than the devs and final coil melted.

this outcry is too severe to be ignored.. though funnily.. they brought a change to Dragoon that I had as a Macro for years! that Jump turns into illusion jump xD

Im a Samurai main and I want Kaiten back. I feel so empty without it. I personally don't care about numbers, but I do care about how a job plays. Being able to manage your Kenki gauge was really engaging and fun! It felt so good to have just enough Kenki for Kaiten and seeing your Kenki gauge go to zero after you use Kaiten for Ogi Namikiri. Being able to manage your kenki throughout a whole fight makes the job so satisfying. It just shows how well you are playing. Plus the animation flowed really well! Just pressing Shinten and keeping 25 Kenki for Senei just feels boring. Please bring 6.08 Samurai back! There are plenty of videos out on Youtube saying the same thing and even pointed out ways to fix the "button bloat" even when there wasn't any. I play on a controller and other controller players will say the same thing.

It's more like "you're not playing our head designer's favorite job and instead picked the OTHER selfish DPS. You deserve to be punished for that."

Revert these sam changes NOW
