Ultima Unreal difficulty level is for preschoolers...

I've been hosting Unreal events for my FC since the first released. Shiva Unreal was an introductory but fun Trial. You turned up the volume with Titan and Levithan, which were a blast. And then came Ultima...
I studied the vids from front to back and jumped into the pf to give it a test run on opening day.
The group I went with had no idea what they were doing, and my co-tank couldn't time their tank swap with me which caused me to die multiple times. We had almost full party wipes, multiple consistent deaths aside from that, it was messy, and yet we didn't even hit enrage.
I am embarrassed by the insanely easy difficulty of this Unreal Trial. What happened?!

The Ex version was not very hard to begin with, and it did not look like they did much to ramp up the difficulty much for level 90 jobs.

Part of the reason it is so easy are all the ways for level 90's to recover from bad stuff happening to people.

Hell, we messed up where we had to use the LB3 to raise people and STILL made it past the 3rd set of orbs by massive healing and shielding and never saw an enrage even though it took longer then usual to finish.

The fight really needs to be tuned better for all the higher abilities.

It definitely needs to be tuned better. They might as well have just given us the original as we powered through it just the same.
During a live letter, Yoshi was cryptic when skimming over the the difficulty of this upcoming Unreal. I was so excited for the next challenge until I experienced it myself.
I have no idea what they were thinking on this one.

its just as undertuned as before? thats a blow

Unsurprising though. SE has been undertuning extremes since stormblood more and more to the point there's little challenge in most of them in the face of a party that has basic competence

Well it is the very first one after all. And last Orbs are still "LB3 or wipe" kind of mechanic for PF, so I think it is about right for Unreal.

How do you people lie about this with a straight face?

Like every Unreal, it's broken.

The 3rd orb mechanic: If you do it, you wipe. If you don't do it, you wipe.

Please explain to me how that is "preschool".

I suggest you re-read what I wrote.
Apparently your reputation precedes you lol

Ooo, do tell!

Evidently, they decided against having a mechanic-heavy fight in favor of retaining those unforgiving orbs.

EX haven't been hard since Sephirot

This fight is a serious joke.

Went in and killed it first try with 16 deaths. The DPS check is pretty much non-existent. Just care for the orbs, sacrifize if needed, doesn´t matter, that´s the whole fight.

It needs to be buffed on Shiva / Titan level. Either they come up with new mechanics or they bring a sick DPS check. (Levi was low too, but not like this here...)

If I recall, Ultima was never intended to be an EX trial but essentially a souped up normal mode. Hence why it didn't have the "Extreme" naming conversion. Given this was their first attempt at introducing harder fights, I'd cut them some slack back in the day.

That begs the question though, why even pick Ultima for the Unreal treatment if you were intending to soup up his damage? Yoshida even said he favored Sephirot of all fights but felt with all the ARR changes that Ultima would suit better. The difference between Ultima and Sephirot's difficult is an order of magnitude. Which does have me wondering if what Yoshida said was only partially true, and they swapped fights last minute due to realizing just how difficult Sephirot is. After all, he borders on the Savage level by today's standards. In fact, I'd argue min ilvl Sephirot is harder than P1S and possibly on par with P2S.

can't people just take Yoshi-p at his word? they made all the changes to MSQ roulette section and he felt it seemed appropriate to select the unreal to be Ultima's Bane. simple as that. no subtext/subterfuge involved.

Going to have to remind people that difficulty is subjective, not objective. I mean, if someone is doing savage and cleared p3s and p4s, Unreal Ultima is going to be a joke no matter how you do it and the same for Endsinger. It's like you're someone who does 50 mile marathons and then goes to a 10 mile power walk fundraiser. Yeah, you'll be fine because you are trained to do a LOT more than everyone else doing the content and it is incredibly easy to forget that.

Every time I see a new post added to this thread, I keep hoping to see a link to a video showing a group of preschoolers clearing Unreal.

It's pretty disappointing that no one is able provide evidence to prove the OP's claim.

Our group uses tank LB3 to cheese the 3rd set of orbs.

If it can be done on roulette side by side with all the other easy trash then it is too easy. Still haven’t done it but may just do it for the research

Yeah, eventually that's what was figured out. Then I had to go through seven different PF groups before I found one with all pure noobs who had never done it before who allowed me to explain every step of the fight rather than resist my every attempt to try to explain what was needed, but instead ran into every possible orb they could like a bunch of freaking lemmings.

I know people like to crap on me for complaining, but you can't build a sandcastle when the sand is full of broken beer bottles and used syringes. It's even more difficult when some jerk is standing behind you flicking his lit cigarettes in your direction.

If that is not for preschoolers, then i don´t know... The DPS check is a joke. So many deaths and still no enrage. If you´ve some good players, you don´t even have LB3 up for the last orbs, you´ve to take it with LB2. Otherwise just sacrifize, the boss will die early enough anyway.

This fight is a joke compared to Shiva´s DPS check. Levi and Titan atleast had some endless death mechanic if you fall of the platform. (But hey, they´re gone in the 50th now too, no wonder...)

Ultima unreal is laughable and probably 1000 times easier than doing it with some newbies in mentor-roulette.

Just a radical thought. Maybe it's not the content that is undertuned but players who are overcompetent?

Ultima Unreal wasn't even a proper "extreme" when it came out, it was in a weird place between hard mode and extreme.
