Remove Overtime from Crystal Conflict

Overtime is such an antifun mechanic that literally saps all skill out of the game. It's inconsistent at best, and total ragebait at worse. Losing the game and the enemy's about to win? Burst2win with a Dancer into literally any aoe LB and just win. Enemy has such a long respawn time that you've already won before they respawn.

Seriously, it's a terrible mechanic. PVP is incredibly improved but if you're gonna have oneshot limitbreaks and absurd stunlocks, atleast design the game around it and don't have "lol you were losing but the enemy made 1 mistake during overtime so now you win" mechanic.

You'd expect them to make a game mode that doesn't go into long overtimes since they claimed they want each match to be very short.

Yet here we are. Most of the matches i've played go into long over times. What a mess, as usual

Maintain control of the payload better and you won't have this issue.

If the enemy team is just going to hard stall by throwing themselves at the payload one at a time, their death timers will eventually scale up to the point where they can't get back to the payload in time and they just lose. If your team is ahead and has full control when time runs out, there's no overtime and you just win. Partial control (players from both teams are on the payload but your team has more) isn't good enough.

Keep in mind that overtime exists specifically to enable come-from-behind victories so the losing team has a reason to keep playing until the time runs out. If one Dancer-LB-into-AoE-LB team wipe was enough to decide the game during overtime, 1) the enemy team should have done that sooner, and 2) your team didn't deserve the win nearly as much as you think they did.

People are already doing that the moment they lose the initial push to the crystal.
Its too easy for one team to steamroll, and the steamroll team, always wins from the start, its impossible to break them off let alone pick a single player off from them, they just dont take damage but dish too much of it out the moment you get near.

If a teammate isn't listening to the hear piercing noise accompanied by the "Fall Back" message, they are not going to read the essay you want to type about needing to regroup.

And fall back tells them that how? That's a blanket call out that tells them nothing and doesn't even need to be said if they aren't by a Sam.

Simple. I put a big, shiny, red "Ignore" marker on an enemy SAM when they have LB up. Because even though it is my teammates personal responsibility to not get themselves killed, I try to help as much as I can. When their LB is gone, I take it off. Simple and effective for most players. Those that still die to it were going to die to it regardless. Can't carry everyone.

Remove this crap. Seriously the more I play the more I wonder how you could mess up this bad.

Overtime, great joke, just like RNG Ranked.

With cheaters spamming skills with 0 cooldown, it is a mechanic that kills any sort of fun or skill. Worst pvp experience ever. Bravo for proving that everything that came with EW destroyed the work of art that was ShadowBringers.

Overtime is rad and there's a lot of whiners getting outplayed by dancers in here apparently?

That said, sometimes it goes on a bit long and having a hard time limit on it wouldn't be bad. But then on the other hand those hard fought games are the most fun so maybe not.

Here I am thinking Overtime needs to be changed to require the crystal still be pushed to the end point.

It's gotta be extremely demoralizing for the other team to get into OT, be making headway, then fail because the other team still had more progress than them.

I'd like either overtime to be removed, or limited in time. The indefinite game matches you get in, are so time consuming. Either give me the loss or the win, just let me get onto the next match. Overtime is a huge waste of player time and the people maintaining overtime, just rush to crystal and spam guard and heals to hold it in place indefinitely.

There's nothing wrong with overtime as a mechanic but I really wish the game made it easier to determine which team is ahead when you're going to it. The UI at the top is always the same independent of which team you're in and it should totally flip the Astra and Umbra the other way around when you're on team Umbra.

Also some LBs are almost designed for overtime so just plain removing it would require a lot of rework in other areas. Just because you're ahead going into overtime doesn't mean you deserve the win. An overtime teamwipe can be somewhat played around to avoid it if you're ahead when going into overtime. If you don't then that's kinda on you and your team to not use your advantageous position.

Having said that, screw 50-50 overtime tho. More often than not that situation is going to take longer than the actual match to resolve.

The game would be awful without OT. What are you even suggesting to replace it? The match just ends at 5 minutes no matter what's going on?
OT only happens because the teams are evenly matched enough that neither can push to goal outright in the time allotted, so the game goes into sudden death.
It's often the best part of any match. I had a match yesterday that lasted 18 minutes, and it was the most enjoyable, adrenaline fueled madness I've experienced in CC yet.

Also, DNC is easily the worst job in the game. It's even worse than GNB and RPR. No idea where you were going with that comment.

Whoever pushed it farther in 5 minutes should win. In some rare case where both teams pushed it the exact same amount then THAT can go into overtime. But when I pushed 99% and then the games goes overtime? That is bad game design.

Do you actually know how to win an overtime? There are 3 different requirements to win dependant on who is winning or how close the match is.

I wish overtime didn't typically last as long as it normally does, but I feel like that is because they don't do a great job at communicating to everyone what their goal is once overtime starts.

I think it would go a long way to have some sort of pop up whenever overtime starts

You win by: Pushing the Crystal more than XX%

You lose by: Having your team outside of the crystal


or

You win by: Getting the other team out of the crystal

You lose by: Letting them push the crystal further than XX%


etc. I don't know if that would help that much, but I feel like that is at least some of the reason why it lasts so long.

no OT at all if both teams went the same distance it's called a dawn and both teams eather get coutned as win or lose.

I had a match of 13 minutes (no joke) because of overtime. I mean it's nice to rack up more than double kills of the next best person but come on.

Absolutely remove overtime. Matches would be far quicker and more fair.

High end ranked probably could be the exception. But for unranked/casual absolutely remove overtime.

So remove overtime and make all the people just quit at the last minute and letting enemy push cause there is no time to make it to the % that the enemy has? No thank you :p

Exactly. There's timer that lets you know the game is ending, you can see which team is about to lose the game, and you can even see the LBs the enemy has ready. If you're surprised by anything that comes next... I dont know what to tell you guys. lol

I've been on teams that die to the last ditch burst and teams that live no problem, its entirely avoidable if you play your cards right.

Coordinate? You don't need a war room with a miniature copy of the map and pawns as stand-ins for all of the characters. There's really not a whole lot to the game, what are you going to strategize about that requires anything more than the quick chat options that you have available? More importantly, in a game of randos, why would you think that anyone would listen to some intricate "plan" whenever they can't even attack the same target being called out 80% of the time?

Yep, no overtime means quicker matches. You lose one match, no problem you queue into the next. Better that than spending 10+ minutes trying to recover a doomed match. Plus the overtime mechanics are communicated extremely poorly, like everything else SE does.

I'd rather lose a match decisively in 5 minutes than spend 10-15 or even more minutes trying to claw it back and praying for a miracle.

At high rank levels, the overtime can stay though.

Report them. Cite "lethargic play" in the report, since that's the explicit ToS violation you're aiming for. If someone is standing in spawn or otherwise just kind of running around in circles and making no effort to engage, no matter how bad the game is going, and it's clearly not just them waiting for allies to respawn or whatever... send the GMs a report on it.

As Yoshida has said in a recent letter, GMs do not take action unless there's an established pattern of that behavior - and without people flagging behavior as potentially destructive, that pattern will be impossible to establish. So don't worry about accidentally reporting someone that's not violating a rule - if they aren't consistently behaving that way, they won't get caught in the net. Even in casual, you should report these folks. Not only because it's intentionally ruining the game and wasting the time of 9 other players, but because in my experience people that are toxic in one area of the game tend to be toxic in other areas as well.

More on topic: Overtime is fine, but it needs to have a set limit. Two or three minutes is more than enough time to cross the map at least once (it's like maybe 30 seconds to go from mid to goal, including stopping at the checkpoint, if all five people stand on the checkpoint), and it removes the balance problems created by "everyone has to be on the point" design OT currently operates under. The game ends immediately when OT is up, and whoever has made the most progress at that time is declared the winner (including progress on checkpoint.) In the event that both teams are even, the match is declared a draw - no points gained or lost for either side.

Then we should also be able to report players who throw themselves at the enemy team 1v5. People who sit in spawn building LB charge benefit their team more than those doing suicidal charges.

People afk anyways and comeback mechanics are literally the problem in any game. If you need to win using a comeback mechanic then you didn't deserve that win. Overtime is fine, but the way its implemented is complete trash.
