I Like the Samurai Changes

Just so the devs know the wailing and gnashing of teeth isn't universal. I'm a newer player, but pressing Kaiten, a button that just buffs another button (which you would always do) felt silly and took away from using another, more active skill.

I like it, and I imagine I'm not alone, but I suspect most won't speak up due to abuse. Also love the auto crits. When playing in small groups and solo, it feels great.

How very disingenuous of you to insinuate that people upset over changes are somehow abusing poor defenseless posters such as yourself. You're entitled to your opinion but most Samurai players disagree, not something that should be hard to grasp

I like how anyone who doesn’t like the changes is just wailing, just because we didn’t like the devs terrible changes to Sam doesn’t mean we are a bunch of non rational whiners who are just crying to cry. You and the other small minority of people who either didn’t care and were for removing kaiten and the other changes imply you are somehow these rational and enlightened people because you agree with the devs. It’s embarrassing to read, as a final note here, I hope your ready for kaiten to comeback in 6.2 if Yoshi p stays true to his promise of taking the feedback to these changes seriously because they removed hagakure in shb and people didn’t like that either and it was back in the game in a patch and the outcry wasn’t even close to what these changes have brought.

So let me get this straight. You are asking us to respect your opinion but won't respect ours, on top of throwing insults then saying the changes were made specifically for you, so no one else is allowed to object? Honestly I am rather open to hearing the other side, they are always welcome to express their opinion. Meaning no offense, but this is kind of the problem and as a newer player it'd be wise to have an ounce of self-awareness when all the non-'newer player' SAMs are making their observations and complaints. When the vast majority of SAM mains are consistently making the same points in every thread in every language, you kind of have to concede that maybe amongst all the salt there's a nugget or three of truth that comes from a place of prior knowledge and actual investment into the class.

If you're enjoying it, more power to you. But you should realise that your opinion holds less weight than someone who has mained the job since 2017.

(That someone not necessarily being me, but there's plenty of threads started by people who picked it up in 4.0 and never put it down. For me, it's been my main DPS since like... 4.3ish)

EDIT: It's also worth noting that Yoshi himself asked SAMs to post their feedback on the official forums after the patch dropped, so it's not just salt and vitriol for the sake of it. Square actively requested our feedback, and we're giving it to them in varying degrees of bluntness. Some people are screeching, some are making some very detailed points based on actual analysis and some like me are just salty that the feel of their favourite DPS has changed significantly and this is the only recourse we have to hopefully changing it back. SAM wasn't broken, they shouldn't have tried to "fix" it.

I'll ignore the veil that you put up for now as a " Newer Player ", being Lv90 Omnicrafter I see and also 9 other classes ranging from tanks/healer/dps leveled all to 90... quite impressive for a " Newer Player ", but I digress...

Mentioning that Kaiten " felt silly and took away from using another, more active skill ", ironically the only skill to replace it with would be Shinten, requiring a lot less thinking to it since it's just an attack and arguably " Less Active "

Im also going to hazard a guess that OP is a troll post. FIRST post ever. AND attempting to touch a nerve over a pretty much universal opinion. This is like voting yes on a get rid of free and fair democratic elections.

No its pretty universal here, in discord channels and on reddit. Congrats being the 1 out of 100 that likes it, though it doesn't appear that sam is your main so your opinion is taken with a grain of salt.

You don't need to be a hardcore player to not appreciate these changes. This specific change just wasn't good (judge by any metric), and seemed to have been made by someone who doesn't play SAM. You're going to have a hard time finding a SAM main who'll embrace this change.

I liked it, but not because it took away from using another ability, but because it just proved Kenki is a pointless resource

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions of course, but when the mass majority of the Samurai community is screaming on the forums and are metaphorically about to fall on their swords and drop their main class over a single change, you know something went terribly wrong.

Maybe its because kaiten was not insignificant? Even the JP players are pissed off. Don't comment on things you have no understanding of.

autocrit for 20k midare when I got that on a normal midare without kaiten. How does that feel great? Your attack is doing less damage with crits then it did without them.

Kaiten might have felt silly and removing it is w/e to me personally, but it doesn't feel good even with autocrits. Please don't be disingenuous that people are abusing others. I've not seen a single one, even on DISCORD it's been fairly neutral and none of this "abuse" like.

It doesn't feel very good when your Gekko combo finisher does almost as much as your Midare?!

Maybe WoW really suited you better?

Style is part of the draw of this game. It's fantastic that you played WOW for 16 years, but how a class 'feels' is part of things here.

And I don't like the way the class feels to how it felt prior to the patch. I don't like the homogenized AEs, and I hate losing the freaking awesome flourish and windup for setsugekka.

Maybe you found it tedious, but most of us apparently liked it.

Its not just the loss of kaiten that's the issue.

Its that with kaiten gone, and abilities rebalanced, a lot of the big long-cast high damage abilities of Samurai... well... don't feel like worth the long cast anymore. Its like a BLM is charging a Flare and it comes out like a Fire 2. Its not very satisfying, even though by all accounts, the DPS still evens out.

If you like the changes, more power to you, but most players despises the changes, especially on the JP side of things from what I’ve heard.

You also do overall less damage as well. Nagakiri, an ability you unlock at lvl 90, is a great example to the nerf. Before, when both slashes of it hit and crit, my Samurai would do a little over 120k damage in total. It was a great feeling, and since it was usable only once every 120 seconds, it was balanced out.

Now it feels like the same as every other attack, with it dealing barely 60k damage half the time. Adding 10 to 20 potency (and reducing some for other abilities) to most abilities doesn’t make up for that huge loss of damage.

I know I’m not the only one switching classes because of the nerf. Even my Reaper who isn’t as geared as my Samurai does far more damage than it now! It used to be my Samurai would do more damage!

Being an old WoW vet myself, you must understand how bad the class design has become in that game with 5 button rotations and most classes revolving around waiting for procs? Also, you seem to fit the mentality of an old WoW player throwing out insults without offering anything constructive into the conversation

Ya, if the crits actually still hit hard I wouldn't care as much, but the crits hitting like wet noodles makes everything feel weak. I don't like this concept they have with spreading the damage out throughout everything. I get our overall dps math wise has more or less stayed the same, but it doesn't feel good to see the jobs big hitters new auto crit hitting for basically what used to be a normal hit before.

By balancing out the DPS and reducing crit variance, it's like they've made a change specifically geared towards the 1% of SAMs who play only play the high-level content and stare at their parsing software for most of the fight - but they're disguised it as a change geared towards the lower end of SAM players by opening up the class and making it 'accessible.' And in turn, they haven't served either community well at all. 6.1 SAM makes no sense at all.

people that dislike the change actualy have thougth out points and arguments, you are just a simple brain that is happy he has to press less button. go play cookie klicker or something if you dont want to press buttons not a mmo.

and since you say you enjoy all jobs there is no need to change it and ruin it for the rest of us. if pressing kaiten is realy to much for you maybe play 1 of the other jobs instead of encouraging the devs to destroy a job for alot of people.

i am also curious how much you actualy play samurai cause to me it just seems like you have 0 understanding of how the job works and why the changes are bad.

I assure that while this change was likely meant to simplify SAM and button bloat; it didn’t and there were far more skills to combine/have lead into direct follow ups. The point is that they pulled the trigger way too fast on removing Kaiten with 0 consideration of what it would do in the larger part of the job. All they thought was “you use it always before your finishers anyway” and thats that. I can’t assume they gave much further thought about how SAMs meter is honestly next to useless now as you really don’t need to play around it or overcapping at all. Because of this, third eye’s meter gain also really doesn’t do much anyway so it begs the question of why did they extend its timer and not realize this.

There’s also the fact that they shouldn’t just be making logic based changes to jobs otherwise you lose all their unique qualities and feel. Just look at how much of a WAR DRK is. Its changes were good but it still needs a rework because its basically just WAR but less healing and more damage. This sort of change is along the same line of thinking of basically just making the combos in pvp how the game works. Would that be fun? Because you’re pressing 1-2-3 in that order anyway, so why not change all jobs around that? You don’t want to do that because its less engaging and just feels terrible.

There are times when they need to make these changes, but I think they took a very fast and sloppy approach here and with some other 6.1 changes. They gave very little consideration for how the job would now feel, and didn’t even address button bloat anyway. There’s plenty to do with SAM in that regards if you took more than just the initial reaction to “how” Kaiten works and is used and considered it redundant.

This pretty much sums it all up. You are probably one of the players who enjoy every job (nothing wrong with that) but of course you don't care that they removed Kaiten. You just hop on SAM once a week to do a FATE or something.

SAM is the ONLY job I play and I love it more than anything in this game. SAM is my life and kept my depression well under control because I had a game that I could look forward to playing everyday, I was super thankful for that. So try to spend 3k hours playing only 1 job (like I did) then and only then will you understand. They ruined something in my life that was perfect and I enjoyed very much. Plain and simple.
