That’s my opinion, because you have nothing to lose putting your entry in the lottery. If you lose out, you still have your house.

Now people are going to cry because they want an upgrade or they do not like their location… then those types of people should be in a lottery, but somehow marked as a lesser chance to win than those who do not already own any housing and required to pay a relocation fee.

As a big proponent of the Lottery, I would have to disagree with this. EVERYONE should be treated equally. That includes those who already have a house and are looking to upgrade, as well as the first time buyers and those people for whom a FCFS system would be impossible to participate in.

Sounds like greed to me.

Wrong. Honestly everyone should be allowed.. (though lottery sucks anyway but ce la vie)

thing is. if somebody that has a house enters the lottery and wins then it doesn't really do anything.. the number of houses available stays exactly the same as they're old one will become vacant.

if someone that has no house at all wins the number of houses available decreases by 1..

There's no reason at all to block people just because they own a house. them entering wouldnt impact your chances of getting a house at all..

Bad idea. I'd be more apt to listen to something that's inclusive, not excluding.

You do realize transfers open up a house in another area for lotto. They removed the instant transfer so having to compete with everyone else doesn't put them at an advantage.

And you do pay a relocation fee you have to rebuy the house and don't get that much of a discount for your current house.

The same statement could be said about those who ALREADY own a house and putting in a lottery taking up a spot.

Maybe they should assign the lottery by wards for people who does not own any houses and wards for those who want to relocate. I think it is very unfair that the people who already owns a house, wants to take up a spot in the lottery for those who doesn’t.

Only those who have completed all savage content on at least 4 different servers and 4 different characters should be allowed to enter the lottery. Just my opinion of what would be best and most fair.

I don't see the problem of house owners entering the lottery?

Even if they win, their previous plot will be opened up for the next lottery so the net result is a zero?

It's not like they are getting a chance to own more houses at the expense of other players.

Wont be entering to relocate or upgrade. 1. Lack the gil 2. Happy with my plot and location. 3. In no mood to redecorate..

Bidding on a house in a prime location or to upgrade to a medium or large is best done by relocation.

They aren't going to remove that option even if the OP posts dozens of these anti current home owner threads. At least with a transfer you won't lose out on getting a house if you bid on a better one. Anyone bidding on a medium or large or a house in a prime location (like a beachside) will probably go homeless given the number of entries for those will probably be very high. I could be wrong and it'll be interesting to see how many entries a large, medium or prime location house gets.

As the 2nd post stated, the reason for the lottery is that everyone has the same baseline chance.

Don't take that away from people just coz YOU want a house ^^

I mean, have you read the OP's other posts? lol

You clearly didn't think this through. This is a very bad idea, specifically FOR people who do not currently have a house. I'll explain why.

You get ONE lotto ticket ONLY. After the 1st week, EVERY SINGLE Ishgard house will be gone. Maybe, just maybe if you happen to live on a really low population server, there will be a couple crap location houses that didn't even get 1 entry. (Yeah right, like bots and alts won't be all over those.) So now, if you didn't win in week 1, by week 2 you can ONLY put in for the currently open plots.

Under your system where no one who already has a house can transfer, you have zero open plots by week 2. However under the current system, where people can transfer, during week 2 plots that transferred will now be open and anyone can put in the single lotto ticket for it. This will include houses NOT in Ishgard. So if someone wants to now transfer from Goblet to Shiro, they can try their lotto ticket on an open plot in a new housing zone. Rinse repeat. Now by week 3, there are other plots available for people who transferred during week 2.

Transfers are what will keep a small trickle of plots coming open for several weeks, rather than everything being gone in the first round of lotto results.

Existing House owners have a right to the lottery as everyone else does, infact their old plot will open up once they complete the transfer.

Be glad they cannot use the relocation bypass.

I sort of agree with the OP and this mainly has to do with how the lottery system is going to work after the initial rush.

There are 5,760 plots per server right now. All of those FCs and private owners can buy a ticket; a ticket with the same odds as everyone else for a particular plot (1/N chance of winning). And the best odds to win a house in the lottery is the first round, assuming that SE puts all 24 new wards up in the lottery at the same time. Tens of thousands of players are going to buy a lottery ticket on these 1,440 new plots. Once those 24 wards are spoken for after the first lottery round, any FC or player that won and relocated will leave behind an empty plot.

An empty plot with still tens of thousands of players wanting to buy a lottery ticket and only a few plots available.

Honestly, I think they should rethink the 100% refund on the lottery if you lose. It sounds terrible to say that, but maybe they should put something in place to act as a gil sink. How about they drop the price of the ticket to 50k for a small, 250k for a medium, 1M for a large but it is nonrefundable. It might deter people later on from having 40,000 entries on a single small plot and only encourage people that are really interested in housing.

This is likely a very unpopular idea...

Those amounts aren't deterrents. They'd actually increase trolling by players with no intent of purchasing because the amounts are so laughably small.

Consider it this way: The cheapest small plot is 3 million gil. That means if someone trolling actually wins a plot and doesn't buy it, they're out 1.5 million gil.

It would take entries over 30 lottery periods for that player to lose that much gil if it's just a non-refundable 50k per entry.

When I logged on this morning, I had already made 385,000 gil just from items selling on the MB since I logged out last night and I don't particularly work hard at selling things on the MB compared to many of the players out there.

50k is a laughable amount..

If the upgrade destroys their old house, then i would consider that fine. Then that is basicly the same as relocating, and still keeps a limit of 1 house. As long as they are limited like that, they do not take up any additional space in housing areas.

And whenever such player then wins a lottery, it will cause that old house to be enabled in the next lotery. Giving players more chances to join a lottery. That would even be a positive effect.

Then you punish the poor players that can't afford to lose that gil because if they don't win, they have no way to enter the next lottery to try again. They're back to gil farming for weeks if not months trying to get enough gil to try again.

In the meantime, rich players laugh it off because they've already got enough gil to enter the lottery hundreds of times and know how to quickly make more gil to replace what is lost.

A recurring property tax is more likely to deter those not actually interested in housing from entering (why keep paying month after month for something you're not interested in and don't intend to use?). It's also another situation where it's going to impact players with less gil disproportionately more than richer players even if you scale it so the tax percentage gets higher as the plot value increases (a rich player can afford a 10% tax for a large plot more easily than a poor player can afford 5% on a small). As much as I'm actually in favor of one myself (primarily as a gil sink), the majority of players throw up a brick wall at the suggestion.

The only thing that is going to solve the problem is for SE to stop acting like shuffling purchase system RNG fixes supply versus demand and start work on implementing a system where every player and FC is guaranteed a house if they want one.

If they move plot the one they left is then available for someone else so.. no? Nobody is losing out become someone moved house.

Except if you are a solo player and someone relocates from one of the FC wards then you are still just as left out as you already are and by the time they reassess what wards to free up for Private Housing those vacant lots will already be taken by another FC

I think it's fine for them to enter the lottery for relocation. It's the only way for people to upgrade from a smaller house to a larger one now and they are under the same limitations as others. If they win, their old plot becomes available for purchase.

So... exclusion is a horrible idea... so you are saying I shouldn't open up my small by the Goblet pools for someone else, because I want a medium regardless of where it is? Maybe that plot is someone's dream plot? The lottery will already make it a little more fair to everyone, but denying the ability to relocate is a terrible idea...

It's gonna be different now that the wards are split. If someone relocates their private home right now that is in a newly designated FC ward- then that'll be a "lost" plot- i.e.- not available for another private purchase.

Well, there won't be any salt from me. I am expecting not to win a plot. As I had predicted earlier, the odds of me winning a plot were well against me and a recent check of the bids placed on the plot I fancy, proves that to be the case. That still does not deter me from supporting the Lottery system though. It's still the only truly fair way to handle the available plots. The only way to prevent a salt explosion from others, is to do a major revamp of the housing system with an emphasis on either more housing, bigger apartments, or both.
