Miss aligned structures in old Sharlayan

I just found something and now it haunts me and I can not make it unseen.
It seems like the walkway is to far to the left.
If it gets moved a yalm to the right then the pillars on both sides would be standing perfectly on the ground and not floating in the air.

I expected more from the architects of Sharlayan.

On a more serious note, does this kind of lack of modeling oversight happen frequently in XIV? I recall seeing the Gunblade relic had a poorly mapped texture, but beyond that I don't recall seeing any other gaffs.

Well... honestly, I appreciate imperfections in architecture like this. A lot of buildings have asymmetrical issues even today, not to mention historical ones. So it is eerily normal? vs computerized perfection lol.

The fact that I can't get a good look at the statue at the end from the front.. what a waste..

It's actually quite common - I remember the infamous floating bottle in Pearl Lane in Ul'dah for instance that remained unfixed for years until it quietly was in a patch (there was a bottle that was meant to be lying on the ground in Pearl Lane but actually was not positioned right and so it looked like it was floating just above the ground instead, with it's shadow clearly giving it away, it was pretty jarring if you knew what to look for - it even showed up in a trailer video SE released prior to ARR's launch, one of the 'Tour of Eorzea' videos).

A similar misaligned object was a book that was part buried in the mantlepiece of the fireplace inside the tavern at the Observatorium in Coerthas Central Highlands, but unlike the floating bottle I don't think that was ever fixed alas. So unfortunately I don't hold out much hope that this oversight would be fixed either, especially given the volume of new modelling work needed to correct it.

I wasn't aware there was lore about the person who made this wrong. Where do I read more about Ms. Aligned?

Why? A lack of eyes during QC walkthoughs. When world building, "floating rocks" are quite common. I've done it myself many times, some I picked up doing a few final walkthroughs, some were missed and later reported.


As to others;
One on the ground in Prae just after "such devastation" annoys the living heck out of me. It's during the sweeping dolly shot, not too far from one's feet, as the camera is moving down to you.

Radz-at-han has a noticable one as well. A corridor of offset tiles that could have been done better.

New Gridania has exposed but culled faces, on the wood, all around the Aetheryte, ugh.

There are (and have been) more. This Sharleyan one is quite blatantly bad though. Hopefully enough to be patched.

I'm looking forward to 4k grapes.

Reminds me of the tiles on the castle roof in Il Mheg.

It was more like WHY would you show me this lol. I get the actual "why" haha. Though I guess to some extent I am still baffled that something this huge was missed.

I'll look for some of those rocks sometime.

These seem like really niche easter eggs. I'm somewhat surprised players were able to find them, but then again people do spend an inordinate amount of time in-game...

I went to see it in person.....and I’m still triggered. Sharlayan aesthetics are so nice otherwise.

I still am bothered that Cid's airship flies just offscreen and stops in the opening cs of prae, so right before the cs ends when the cam moves away from the party, you can see it just hanging, motionless in space. That is a huge oversight that after nearly 10 years has yet to be fixed.

4k grapes we should get a quest to stomp on grapes to make some wine (wash feet first of course with all this traveling I am sure they are somewhat funky lol)..maybe culinary etc.. kupo <3 I want a bucket of 4k grapes lol

Wow just never observed the architecture before that much I guess. I don't see the problem really but sorry if it bothers others?

With CID off the ship Biggs and Wedge can finally play up, unsupervised they raid the hold for the cheetos, sodapop, and joints.

While stuffing their faces with those munchies, there is nobody to keep the ship moving.
