Consider FFXIV on XBox

With the latest acquisition of Activision, the overall offerings provided by the Microsoft platform are looking even more attractive.
In addition, their Azure platform is going to expand their footprint in the cloud gaming market as well. They are already a force to be reckoned with in the Enterprise computing space.
I have read news articles in the past about some sort of effort to bring FFXIV to Xbox, and I'm hoping that some folks at SquareSoft are looking at the current landscape and considering expanding the market for this wonderful game to people on the Xbox.
I invested in my first console (obviously Xbox X) today. I've always owned Sony consoles and my last one was PS3 till I switched to computer gaming. With WFH due to pandemic, I've decided to invest in a console so I'm not glued to my computer.

Long story short, I hope there's an effort, it can only be good for the game.

Ehh, as much as I like XBOX, I'd rather not add more fuel to the Monoposoft bonfire.

They tried, i think microsoft wanted an xbox live subscription to be required to play since it was an online game, square enix didn't want players paying two subscriptions to play on xbox. Also i think microsoft wanted exclusivity and SE wasn't gonna do that.

I believe even before that, Microsoft was saying something along the lines of they themselves not wanting cross play with PlayStation because they couldn’t monitor the interactions

I doubt ff14 will be going to xbox. on the bright side WoW will likely be going there. lol
This will likely pressure Sony to keep ff14 playstation and pc exclusive.

Actually, they've stated the hold up is potato pcs now. A significant amount of people play on systems that don't or barely meet minimum specs. Console hasn't been stated to be an issue since the PS3 was dropped.

I believe if it wasn’t for PlayStation subscribers, the game wouldn’t of lasted as long as it has. Not in the early days had it been pc subscribers only. Get over it

Well, my husband plays on PS5 and he loads faster than I do on a year old gaming pc. In fact, I often seeing him waiting for a lot of PC players while he is already loaded in. And yes, he can tell if they're PC because they don't have a PSN id when he examines them. Maybe it's time for the vast majority of PC players to stop holding back the current gen console players. And for PC players to stop thinking they are better than other gamers.

Other then the last part as I believe in not insulting our PC players cause hey, we are gamers at the end of the day. I love everyone here. The rest of what you said is very true. I'm on PS5 and the only people who beat me loading in are people with monster PCs. And yes I can tell because I beat laptops loading, PS4s, crappy PC builds. Hell most of the time people with monster PCs we load at the same time. The PS5 as far as loading times go is no joke.

I am not talking about the latest systems though, i am talking basically about the game supporting the old systems until they start to cry under the weight of graphic demand.

I mean heck they supported playstation 3, 3(!!!!), until 2017. That thing was 11 years old by that point. And PC players have to suffer for it. The only reason we have so many many instanced zones is mostly cause...yeah...console limitations!

Even ps4s with ssd’s load faster than a huge portion of the pc player base. I don’t think you know what you’re even on about. With how diverse pc builds can be, it’s more likely pcs being on the low end than consoles when it comes to holding the game back

I see you don't get it. Let me explain it to you >again<. We saw what happened with the PS3 and how long they supported it. Could be that it will be the same for the PS4 now, right? Maybe in 10 years they still try to make the game work for PS4.

And now imagine getting another console into the game. They don't upgrade at the same time perfectly sync, you know that right? Maybe the next MS console will come 3 years after the next PS or maybe not. It would be a huge support mess if they don't stick to the new consoles and supporting old consoles until they turn to dust cause of their age.

For PC you can always easily increase the requirements the game has, game needs more ram? You can get more ram. But consoles can't, they can't upgrade spontaneously. Especially when you literally support decades old console systems.

Which at the end also sucks up development time cause you need to try to make it work for literally everything.

So explain why they've mentioned that the current hold-up is potato pcs from people playing at or below min specs. Most people don't play on gaming pc's. They play on the pc they have or a school laptop thats terrible and runs the game at 15-20 fps. That's a much wider audience than people like me with 5800x's and 3080s.

there is still room for upgrade of graphic . but its fine how it is now . i really didnt understand when people compared WoW to FF14 as how WoW is having so great graphic...

to the topic . i cant imagine how to bring FF14 now to XBOX . its super late and if anything , im sure Sony wont allow it :D since theyre in friendship with SquareEnix and having already some exlusivity on Forspoken and Final Fantasy XVI .

Nope.
You pay SE the money to buy the expansions, and pay for the subscription. No PS+ necessary at all.

Yeah a quick google search show me that. Im surprised Sony allowed that. There's a ton of games i cant play multiplayer due not being able to afford plus.

It's because this game was released before ps+ was a thing and was grandfathered when Sony made online gaming a part of ps+.

Yoshida had been in talks with Nintendo and Microsoft since late 2018 in order to try supporting their consoles. Both ended up not happening for different reasons.

Microsoft likely because they wanted it on gamepass, and Nintendo would have several problems, between mandatory micro sd, cpu speed limitation and the abundance of players who would ruin your day in duties with bad WiFi.

Considering I’m the only 1 I recall who mentioned ssd, that’s not a lot of people to be referring to. As I only suggested that a PS4, with an ssd, which is proven to help with ps4 load times, may cause said console to out perform some of the potato pcs in the community…. I said nothing wrong.

It will happen eventually, I honestly think that was the original plan with the initial server expansion plans. SE was notoriously penny pinching with FFXI, so when YoshiP mentioned how they moved forward an already planned expansion of servers for NA DCs, that implies SE approved of the budget for it, and this was prior to YoshiP declaring that XIV would be spared no expense going forward as far as it's budget was concerned.

So with SE (previously) being notoriously stingy, yet would still approve of such a large sum of money, while it could have simply been estimated growth projections that moved SE's hand in approving that budget or that the amount of servers NA does already have, that that amount would have been untenable by that point in the game's life, but my gut feeling upon hearing that news of 7.0 server expansion plans would be accelerated, that made me think it is possible for 7.0 to be accompanied by adding MS console support to XIV. It had to have been something that was a big enough deal and something reasonably set in stone that by that update, there would be a need for more servers specifically for NA. Basically the only way SE would have been moved to approve that budget and plan, would have been because a rather unavoidable 'other shoe' was going to drop and adding support to another version of the game fits that vibe to me.

FFXI was available to play on PS2, PC, and Xbox 360. I think YoshiP would definitely do his level best to try and repeat that hat trick with XIV. Not as a matter of pride or anything but simply because that's the legacy of FF MMOs. I don't put forward this line of thinking to imply that XIV will be forever a flop should it fail to secure the same level of cross platform play that it's predecessor was able to achieve. I'm not saying that nor is it my intention to even imply that. Just that YoshiP is just that much of a fan of MMOs as a genre he would genuinely try and make it happen as a fan of the genre who is in charge of a MMO.

It was mind blowing to me when I began playing FFXI on the 360, knowing i was playing with players across multiple platforms, it really sold what MMOs are about, in my view at least, so I wouldn't put it past YoshiP to at least try to do that again, especially when in a position to call as many shots as he can. I just hope this acquisition with MS and Activison-Blizzard doesn't provide any roadblocks to any such hypothetical efforts/negotiations. Or for this recent season of game industry acquisitions causing companies to roll up and pursue to acquire SE or something equally insane.

Because SE promise the ps 3 players they would get arr that is why it was on the console for so long. But now low end computers are holding it back

90% of gamers have no clue about computer hardware. I definitely believe it to be true that potato PCs are a bigger issue than PS4 currently. I mean, people are playing on old laptops with integrated graphics which are bound to perform worse than PS4. Pop an SSD into the PS4 and it becomes even better. The PS4 graphics card is roughly equivalent to a Radeon 7850 which is faster than even the newest integrated graphics chips.

I believe there was mentioned it was pretty much approved and in the works, but covid and constant delays had them completely push it off to the side and stop altogether, focus was all on EW launch. Maybe theyll jump back on once things start smoothing out, their focus now is the world/data center infrastructure, so maybe by 7.0 we could see something?

I understand though that they're trying to make the game accessible to everyone they can but come on.
First PS3, now it's the PC players fault lol.
I'd really like a bit more oomph out of this game and not be held back because people are still running rigs from 2008 lmao.

They learned hard lesson from 1.0 not to design their game base around high end pc users that only makes up small fraction of player base. 1.0 was beautiful but not everyone has the PC can run it. PS3 used to have largest user base and it was a correct decision

It would be nice to have like texture packs or whatever but demanding to increase the fidelity overall would just decrease the amount of people who could run it on x. That is a terrible business decision. That being said, the game looks better with each and every expansion so I'm not not sure what some people are on about.
