What could be refreshed in 1-50 content range?

Devs do plan to update things like Cape Westwind and Prae... but what else could be updated to make the ARR part feel smoother?

For me few points are:

* Fates and hunting log are handy to level and try out other jobs... but they do seems to fall off in effectiveness around level 20-25 while dungeon roulette queues for DPS on my world are like 12-18 min (instant for Heal/Tank) - maybe improve the exp rewards from fates and extend the hunting log (or also give bonus to side quests of matching levels)?

* "Role in need" could be expanded in the roulette queue:
-- option to get tokens that then can be turned in for exp on another job (say 1-50) or like limited subset of items needed for relic grinds, free company crafts or other similar things
-- "i want to spam roulette for exp" - option to select multiple and make the game optimize where to put you quicker (DPS would likely end up in ARR Crystal Tower ;) )

* Option to have a custom guildhest for jobs starting at higher level - you get level brackets and some simple task like deal damage with new buttons, heal stuff etc, then automatically or on your request move up - so you can organize and learn all the buttons as they show up (and get to know what will be available on lower levels in roulette if you get such instance)

* Maybe turn Cape Westwind encounter into a training-style encounter? - we pretend to be recruits after basic training to be evaluated and boss does the evaluation - the encounter goes over all common mechanics while the boss in "This is Thancred" style comments beforehand about upcoming mechanic - what it is, how to handle it etc. Then he realizes we aren't recruits and he does them without commentary ;)

* Some refresh in Grand Company - make their gear more universal/somewhat scalable when doing alt jobs, dump old poetics gear into something like a heirloom gear? sanction buff extended to say doing fates, hunting log, side quest for bonus exp?


And overall some vertical problems to think about - right now we are 1-90, but 1-100, 1-110... in the future. The barrier to entry will be ever increasing (crafters, alt jobs and even to some extent MSQ). It can start favoring boosting things or like sitting in Ishgard Restoration for very long and spamming macros.

My suggestion would be just level 50 content, but making the Coils mandatory seems like a good idea since the raid series is incredible and the story is super important to ARR. I know why they don't since its considered "too hard", but they could also make a "normal mode" or something that is easier for causal players.

Cape Westwind, Castrum and Prae need to be redone to be completed with trusts.

Fates need to have bi colored gem stones in ARR zones and xp bonus fates applied like they did in expansions after HW.

All classes need to have an AOE combo before lvl 40.

Better looking low-level armor so everyone doesn't look like a bootleg JoJo character or N64 Lara Croft.

Nothing too fancy, just... yeah

I just finished ARR last night on an alt so your question's timely. I would refresh/change the following:

1. Make all Splendors Vendors/Revenant's Toll tomestone vendors sell all levels of tomestone gear. Explanation below.

2. Give people purposefully queuing for ARR dungeons/raids/trial Post-50, from Sashtasha all the way through The Crysalis, 1.5x the experience they would earn by doing an at-level dungeon.

3. Give people purposefully queuing for ARR dungeons/raids/trial Post-50 twice the tomestones.

4. Do Not increase XP gain for people going through ARR content the first time or on an alt other than the normal main job above 50 bonus.

WTF you talking about? I stopped doing *all* side quests somewhere around lvl 15 because I was level 25. After that I only did MSQ content, hunting log, and some roulettes for GC seals to get promotions which still kept me at least 10 levels above MSQ quests. I ended up being 3/4 through 58 by the time I started Heavensward.

Explanation for above: Because I couldn't get to Idyllshire after reaching 50, I had nothing to spend my tomestones on. It would be a great QOL change to be able to purchase any and all levels of tomestone gear starting in ARR. As it stands, I'm going to be full up on tomestones and past level 60 before I can get to the vendor which bothers me. I'd much prefer to have the full set of 60/70/80 gear ready to go as soon as I hit those levels, regardless of what expansion I'm in at the time.


5. Add bicolor gemstones to FATEs and let us use them to buy crafting materials and other items like we can in ShB.

Coils would need an easier version (more easy than normal) then if it's mandatory. The difficulty level of Coils doesn't match any content near its level range by far. I worry that this might make certain hardcore raiders feel slighted though...

personally..

I'd buff the exp from FATES, whilst also incorporating the gemstone system into it with various knick-knacks and mounts, expand upon the hall of the novice to create hall of the advanced, and attach appropriate rewards for incentive. Not gear-wise, but a minion/mount as away of bridging the gap a little bit, teaching players 'intermediate-advanced' mechanics. Further to this I would personally expand more upon guildhests, again as an additional measure to help 'mend' the disparity in ability between players.

I would have job quests also become mandatory beyond a certain point in the story. Level 40 MSQ seems appropriate for obtaining your job, at the very latest, and then maintain this by requiring the final quest of the base game require Level 50 job quest completion. Which is something I would also continue into HW.

Job quests should be required for all progression through the MSQ, regardless of expansion.

Roulette signups can put high level player even in Sastasha - that's the value of it - we don't have to sign up to MSQ 1-50 instances for you to get us in the group. As for leveling - you had MSQ while I was referring to leveling other jobs from 1 way after you've done your MSQ. Healers and tanks can spam instances with no queue time but any DPS job will have long wait time while hunt log or fates drop down really quickly - so it would be nice to put them to 50 quicker - where they have full base toolkit and also access to more instances in the queue (and DPS usually has shortest queue on Alliance raids, usually ARR MSQ ones for which it has to be 50+ level).

Oh I know coils is very hard for new raiders. That's why I suggested an an easier new normal mode since the standard Coils doesn't classify itself as "normal" currently.

Trim about 30% more quests, the whole wine and cheese bit around Brayflox could be cut out with zero loss of story.

they mentioned they're planning to do something major in regards the castrum meriadanum/praetorium, what exactly that is I'm not sure, maybe make them into solo duties?

Revisit field Leves. Either buff their XP, tweak the rewards, or honestly just remove them altogether. Dunno. I used them to get a few Jobs up, but it's just sad how left behind they are.

I wouldn't mind if they removed all the 50 hard dungeons.
I hate them all and they felt outdated years ago :)

Imo split it into lv 50 raids, would be perfect, you can have all the cutscenes before/after. Maybe even tune it down to 4 ppl.

1) Revamp the squadron system and give them the same AI as the Trusts. This should've been done when trusts were introduced.
2) Create a Trust version of Castrum/Prae and require that to be done before Duty Finder MSQ Roulette unlocks, and then allow for cutscenes to be skipped in MSQ Roulette.
3) Poetics Vendor in Mor Dhona should offer the poetics gear from every expansion, so an overleveled character that is still MSQ locked can dump their tomestones and avoid capping.
4) Increased XP for ARR dungeons.
5) As someone said, every job gets an AOE rotation at level 40. This would be a huge quality of life upgrade for running lower level content.
6) Any content that was basically ported from ARR (Toto Rak is a HUGE offender for this), as someone else said, should have their dead ends removed. While they are at it, spawn the final boss chest dead center. Ever notice it's off center? It's because in 1.0, multiple chests would spawn at the end based on conditions one finished the dungeon completing. Up to 4 chests spawned. Now the only one that does is the boss chest, but it kept it's position. It's an OCD nitpick, but it always makes my eyeball twitch.
7) Fate XP increase, Hunt log XP increase, Side Quest XP increase for all of ARR.
8) Do... something... with Cape Westwind. Turn it into a solo duty or something and retune it. The poor dude's had years of being wailed on and meme'ed.
9) I like the suggestion someone mentioned of making your highest level job's job questline a requirement for progressing in MSQ. With one additional add please. A simple pop up or NPC text reminder of "EQUIP YOUR SOUL CRYSTAL".
10) Expand the Smith's role training. Add in an additional category: Common Adventuring Mechanics. Show off stack markers, confuse arrows, tank busters, esuna'ing debuffs, etc. Really any fundamental mechanic that should be exposed to the player. Also, make the role training from the Smith mandatory before unlocking the duty finder. Should a player level skip, and has not completed these, they should have to complete these right at the initial start after their level skip.

Possibly, if one is about to do a dungeon for the first time, and there is a new marker type, make the training part of the unlock.... as an example, run to a guy at the entrance of Sohm Al (I think that's the first for stack), he explains what a stack marker is maybe with Smith like "try it", only then does the dungeon entrance appear.

This is a good way to expose the mechanics early. Also ensure that the mechanic is presentable in a way that outgearing won't negate it being shown and learned. Good thinking.

The Coils raids definitely need some kind of rework or retuning so they can be added to Roulettes, and run at the right time in the story instead of having to either ask for a carry in PF or doing it 3 expansions later solo

Make the 2 MSQ dungeons into solo duties that a player runs once and is then done with unless they use New Game+.

The storyline of these actually makes more sense solo, and it would solve all the conflict over the length and the tension a new player faces of feeling rushed in the playable parts.

Turn a lot of the 'side NPC' moments into side quests. Much of New Ala Migo, Filaminon, and the whole dinner party before the primal could be side quests.

Things to keep would be anything that strengthens scion and ascian lore.

I'm of half a mind to say that even Grand Companies should be side quests - mandatory only for unlocking frontline PvP as they directly tie to that. Optional side content otherwise.

i hope they take a grindstone to the crystal tower raids and make them as hard as Yorha raids. maybe then ilv cheesers will think twice.

Ten characters

If I remember correctly...without Brayflox and the Cheesewar there would be no Alexander raid, and the wine person play a role later. Brayflox and the wine person also have a prominent role in the Endwalker melee dps role quests if you choose a particular sentence in a conversation.

There's a stack in Syrcus Tower, but the now-standardized stack marker doesn't show up in mandatory content until the Final Steps of Faith.

This is something that probably covers more than ARR duties but updating pre EW duties to have attack markers in line with EW would probably help a little. An example being all Tankbuster attacks I've noticed in EW duties have a specific marker now where as it was rarely used before EW and in cases before EW I believe only appeared in Trials or Raids. Having the markers for specific mechanics or attack types be uniform through all lvl ranges would help people become familiar with them faster.

The 1-50 duties I feel are mostly fine as they are. Though maybe syncing the ilvl down more for CT raids, Meridianum, Praetorium, westwind so they aren't so face-rolly on the actual gameplay parts making ppl do mechanics. The only trimming I would look for in that early part of the game would be to the solo MSQ fetch/delivery/talk to X quests that basically are little more than go here and click on the spot or npc for multiple steps. I'm pretty sure there are at least a couple more that could be trimmed out without taking anything away from the early story.

I'm of two minds on this. For one, I agree because dead end paths are useless aside from exploration achievement and a crummy low level chest, especially now that all trash XP has been rolled into the boss XP, and certain bosses like the bombs boss you brought up are rather boring.

But on the flip side, I like the idea of making dungeons less linear and giving optional paths, possibly with challenging content with meaningful rewards, though I do understand that'd be difficult to balance to make it worth doing but also not obligatory.

And those unique bosses? I appreciate them making unique gimmick bosses so early, show newcomers that it's not all just boring tank n spank fights and some fights requires doing mechaics. Especially after the generic boring Sastasha. Could it be done better? Sure. But it's nice they made something unique so early. They could have easily made the first 30 levels worth of dungeons all Sastasha levels of difficulty.

This. As much as I hate the earlier dungeons for being boring due to level sync, they feel more like dungeons because of how non-linear they feel by comparison. Like I'm actually exploring and fighting through something.

As an aside, I think they should lower the GC rank requirement to turn in things like dungeon equipment for seals. Having levelled multiple alts, getting them to the point where I can turn in gear is pretty obnoxious after the hunt logs are cleared. FATES and GC Battle Leves don't exactly give enough to feel efficient for promoting them anymore.

I really like most of your ideas. Maybe make the Grand Company accessible at level 10 so you can get your chocobo faster and not have to walk for like 30 MSQs first.

Rework the FATES to be more like what ShB and EW have now with the bicolor gems.

Update/add more to the job hunt logs. Give us more to do with those.

More GC stuff: More ways to work on rank, also like someone else said, give us the option to turn in items sooner.

Change/fix old dungeon/raid mechanics so they are all the same as what end game has. There are a few different fights that have a "stack" mechanic, and they all use different markers. Fix it so they are all universal.

Find a way to make quests that unlock emotes or minions stand out. Change their icon color, or even just give them the + like other quests. A lot of those gems are just hidden around.

Do more with the Smith training. There is a lot that could be expanded on there that could help people in the content of the game.

Allow people to buy Tomestone gear before they are done with the MSQ. So many times I will be working on a character, end up capped on tomes, and I will have nothing I can spend them on. Let people buy things early, there isn't much reason to block them from using their tomes.

Other things:

* Exp from spamming roulette - leveling one can give you like MSQ Ifrit and other, which is close to no exp. Like early on below 50 you get 1-2 levels per run if you get good match on the instance, but the also slows down a bit. As tank in need in 50/60 roulette I also takes me a lot of runs to get the exp.

* Second thing to look at is possibly the daily roulette rewards - you have to do it on the max level job to get the max level tomestones. You can't switch to other one, lower level, without loosing those rewards (especially if you would switch to job type in-need).
