Gunbreaker should be Tank and DPS

Make it like Druid in WoW and give it two job crystals, one for tank and another for dps. It’s one, if not the most iconic FF class in the game, but then locking it behind a role most players shy away from in MMOs. Not about hard to play or not, but as a tank you’re simply the actor on the stage while the dps/healer audience watches you and a lot of people don’t like this playing in the spotlight.

You could probably say this for warrior/dark knight as well, but they are just staple western MMO and nowhere near as FF as the gunbreaker.

Another thing is that dps could really use a “sword user” besides the exotic samurai, as SAM is not everyone’s taste.

They tried they with arcansit which can be a Scholar or Summoner. They said they would never do that again.

Easy solution is to not sky away from tanking.
Someone's gotta tank. Who's gonna do it if all the "good" jobs are dps?

I see no problem here. The last thing we need is less Tanks, and unhooking something as cool as GNB from the role will just result in less Tanks.

Also, GNB is arguably the 2nd or 1st easiest Tank.

... Because we definitely need less tanks... Guess what role is frequently the "adventurer in need" bonus across nearly every data center? Hint: it's not dps, and that's precisely what many GNB would be, given the option.

maybe one day when they introduce a stance that switch between dps or tank exclusive only for tank class. but i highly doubt it

What would a "DPS gunbreaker" even play like? Just like how GNB plays now but with all the tanking abilities removed? Or would you want to add more buttons to GNB's already incredibly busy kit?

Both options sound kinda bad to me.

They basically had that in the past with WAR. It resulted in complaints about job complexity with stance dancing and also with people refusing to tank while playing the job.

They tried that with PLD and removed it, so I doubt that day will come again.

You are pinning for hybrid/support classes. The holy trinity disapproves of such combinations. I don't see FFXIV deviating from the current standard any time soon!

Only thing I could see them really doing at this point is making a dps job with the same weapon. Gunbreaker is based on the bozjans right? Could make a melee/ranged dps gunblade user based more off the garlemald arts. Though I think that would put them in maiming based on garlean looks. Could do Geomancer as a dps whm that focuses on the elements again too as whm has gone full holy magic at this point. Basicaly the only way id get to see the classes I wanted from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance at this point. Sniper, assassin, gunner, elementalist, time mage, etc.

I'd rather we get a Corsair or something similar as a job that uses a sword and pistol. Same idea but a new job with new gameplay and less reworking a whole job system

TBH I feel like the OP is like the people back when GNB was announced as a tank that complained about it being a tank based on their experience with FFVIII and Squall being their primary source of damage. However I think it's even said in game at some point both characters Squall and Siefer were essentially guardians or protectors. Squall's high damage output being a product of being a higher level than other party members for most ppl and him also having the hidden perk trait of "Flagship Character". Cloud's class of Soldier in FFVII would also essentially have the tank role as well with the same factors impacting his damage output. I feel the GNB we have now fits the job perfectly in FFXIV. Players just aren't able to output more damage than DPS jobs because we don't get the benefit of the hidden trait "Flagship character"

If I'm being honest I was one of the ones that wished gunbreaker was a dps as well, but that it mostly because I don't find the design of tanks and healers in this game very fun myself. Did not know the bit about Squall though. The only ff games I have played are FF14, Tactics Advance, and Crisis Core but I at least knew of "Squall the gunblade dude".

I really don't like multiple specs. I'd rather see them release a melee dps that uses a "gigachad big deeps gunblade" instead, should they choose to revisit the gunbreaker concept.

They did something similar with Dark Knight and Reaper stemming from the XI concept of DRK.

I don't think we currently need another melee.

Gunbreaker is one of the most iconic Final Fantasy jobs? I can't think of a single game that had a Gunbreaker job. Even Squall's job was just a Mercenary, he just used a gunblade as a weapon.

Um no, not warrior. But you can say it for drk. Because we did get drk₂ which for what ever reason they called it reaper. Should really have made it drk₂ rather than rpr, because that's what it is. And yeah it would be great if drk and drk₂ worked like smn/sch so I could just level drk and pull out the scythe when I wanted to play drk₂

I mean why would dark knight ever wear a scythe...

A Gun-Machette is really exotic too imo.

I think it's a really fun class as is. If they shoe horned it into a DPS there would be a lot of upset players.

Also by this metric WAR/PLD should also be able to queue as healers.

Incredibly busy No Mercy window. Outside of that its actually rather boring. If they could fill up that downtime with something entertaining other than 1-2-3 + one gnashing combo it would be really nice. But yeah, leave it as tank.

Utterly nonsense. MMOs have had the trinity since the beginning and also had hybrid/support classes. Everquest support classes were absolutely amazing. WoW even had hybrid/support classes in Vanilla and TBC with Paladin, Shaman, and Druid.

Laziness is what has killed the hybrid/support classes. Not the holy trinity.

GNB seems fine as it is.

I still don't get it why this is a thing in FFXIV. In WoW it only sucked tanking M+ for instance, but that was because you were the only one that had to do homework before running a dungeon while DPS and healers just mindlessly followed you. In FFXIV there's absolutely nothing that makes Tank harder or put them on a spotlight as you said, their rotations are oversimplified when compared to DPS and Tank mechanics aren't hard at all after you see them the first time while in most dungeons you just run wall to wall pulling everything.

I mean, you play a White Mage, healers are always the hardest roles in games because you are not only responsible for your health and mechanics but also to compensate for any mistakes your peer might make, you should be used to being in the spotlight by now.

Sounds like a bad option to me. Just my 2 gil though.

NO. The whole appeal of GNB is that it rides the line between tank and DPS. Take tank away and it's just...another soft-brain melee job clogging up duty queues.

When I play GNB, I feel like a tank.
