Suggestion for new caster

Since we lost old summoner with dots and bard now not dealing with dots like before ( no proc ) so i would ask SE to add a new dots mage.

I dunno if my voice will reach to them but this play style ( dots ) had a alot of fans who loves this style in old FFXIV days and other MMORPGs.

we miss this style after summoner changed .. so here what we have for casters :

1- black mage : long cast time and heavy damage. ( 1 dot )

2- Summoner : Summon and take their power + high mobility and utility and Rez. ( 0 dot )

3- Red mage : half caster and half melee + Utility and Rez. ( 0 dot )

So My humble suggestion is :
4- dots mage : 2-3 dots , have a cast time and ofc a unique idea for it because the dots won’t be the main damage and idea all time.


This post for poor souls who lost something was enjoying it in game.

I am eagerly awaiting the day FFXIV gains a dedicated dot-focused caster. Until that day I lack hope, but one can always dream.

I really lost the desire to play more those day and worry they will just add another simple caster with no dots …

I would support a dot mage simply to protect the future of Summoner from returning to that dark place.

I wouldn't mind an DoT mage. The question is what mage can fit that bill. Unless they want to add a brand new job to the franchise, I don't think there's a mage that deals exclusively in DoTs.

I'd like to see a dot based mage. Not sure what job. Maybe Necromancer but they'd be like old summoner. Undead pets with dots slapped on it. Idk what other class would fit a dot playstyle.
But other than a dot class i'd rather see a time mage or something.
Not sure how it would work as a dps job since time magic is generally more supportive i suppose.

SMN was the DOT mage. If they turned summoner into the most boring possible class just to give the DOTs to another shiny class.....Well, I'll be a little pissed. Not to mention, I think it's unlikely anyways.

They seem to be removing DOT gameplay. SMN was completely gutted. BRD was made so much less reliant on using them at all. They could have designed something to lead into these DOTs more smoothly, but they didn't. Seems to indicate a certain mindset in their balancing.

It's pretty early to be talking about new jobs in the future, lol, but I'm a nerd for theorycrafting so why not?

As it stands, it seems likely that the next time we get a new job, it will be a caster of some sort. We can't guarantee that, but it seems to fit the pattern. With that in mind, there are a few different ideas that I've had regarding this:

Option A: Unlimited Blue Mage
If BLU gets updated in the same fashion as how it was handled during Shadowbringers, then it would catch up with level 90 around 6.4, and it's entirely possible they could set up some type of "ascension" style content that lets you evolve Blue Mage into an unlimited job as a Caster DPS. The caveat here is that they would not have any spell customization. Instead, we would undergo some sort of 'spell refinement' process that changes a handful of spells from their gimmicky nature into something that flows like any of the other casters.

Perhaps they could retain a very small amount of customization, such as letting you choose which offensive spell animations you prefer for your single target or AoE spells without actually changing the potency. Perhaps you could choose between your type of AoE (Circle, line, point-blank, etc.), but that would likely be the extent of your customization ability for unlimited BLU. The thing though for me is that unlimited BLU seems more like it would make sense as a utility caster with Angel Whisper, and other forms of healing and support, where the open slot for an official 4th caster would make more sense for a more selfish caster to contest with BLM. I feel like this is a natural progression of the limited job system eventually, but I'm not sure if SE actually cares to ever make BLU anything more than a gimmick.

Option B: Geomancer
GEO is a job that we've known about for quite some time, though largely as a healer. Since we just now got Sage, it will be a very long time before we ever see another healer (if we ever see another healer). GEO is one of the last couple classic Final Fantasy jobs that's still missing from FFXIV, so it may be that we end up seeing some kind of group of GEOs that are different from the ones seen in Kugane.

Option C: Diviner/Onmyoji
On the topic of Kugane, I wonder if we might see some kind eastern magic job in the future. This idea came more with thinking about other weapon categories that could fit within the caster archetype, and one that I think would have a lot of visual distinction would be paper talismans. I also feel like a job like this would thematically be a great starting point for them to reapproach the concept of a DoT mage in a new concept that isn't fighting any other styles like the internal battle SMN always had prior to Endwalker. With no preconceived idea of what the job should be, they can fully embrace the DoT aspect in a way that they might've always been afraid to do with SMN or even BRD (which, while many might not like it, is waving death flags around its DoTs as of Endwalker). It's entirely possible that they may purge BRD of its DoTs as well and pave the open path for full-on DoT mage such as this concept.

Option D: Pictomancer
Another idea for what other mage-type jobs we could see might be a painting mage. While it's not a staple Final Fantasy job, it is an archetype that Relm from FF6 fulfilled. Much like how Squall paved the way for Gunbreaker to be added, perhaps a caster wielding a large paint brush could also be a consideration. Much like the concept of how Onmyoji (or OMY) might be a DoT mage, I think PIC might have a similar potential as well and it a little less unfamiliar to the Final Fantasy brand than OMY would be.

I'd rather quite like a Divine Light themed dot-based caster. Or Unlimited BLU.

I really want a DoT Mage. Preferably Green Mage. It would be nice for Green Mage/Magic to be fleshed out more, and FFXIV could very easily do it. The support side of it would obviously be easy to figure out. Being designed from the ground up to deal Damage over Time with DoT consumes, spreads, DoT procs.

I also just want to collect all the colors...

Well they did just bring back a character who was previously a DoW and is now a DoM. A nice helping of placeholder spells to go along with it, taking place in an arena very tied to a support caster job in the game. With us just getting Sage, them coming back as another healer is pretty unlikely.

For me, Puppet Master is the new caster I want most, complete with the puppet as a damage dealing pet, and with dark spells and lots of DoTs. But Squeenix seems to hate DoTs and pets, so I doubt that'll ever happen.

I have a completely unfounded suspicion that maybe they simply find DoTs, or maybe more specifically the snapshotting, troublesome to balance around. Either the DoTs are weak to balance against all the raid buffs or whatever, which might suck in solo play or dungeons or something. Or they're good on their own which makes them overpowered in larger groups.

But, like I said, completely unfounded, I don't know much about much of that end.

I've never liked DoTs and with how their procs for songs have been removed from BRD I expect BRD to loose theirs next expansion. That said I fully anticipate Geomancer being a DoT based job.

I doubt we'd get another DoT class, due to them consistently removing DoTs. They cause problems when there's too many of them up at once (BA, DRS, hunts).

Plus my pick for a 4th mage would be Geomancer, and I don't think they'd fit a DoT mage system. More ground based and channelled spells.

I would much rather see Puppet Master as a Tank actually. Now, yes, SE does hate pets (and especially tank pets), but Puppet Master doesn't have to be a pet job. The puppet can just be the weapon used by the job and a part of the animations and not necessarily an entity separate from the player.

With this mindset, you create the illusion of a tanking pet very easily, and I think you could play around with PUP's invuln ability in a really creative way. Imagine that you spend a percentage of your HP to place your puppet in a stationary location, transfer your aggro to the puppet, and the puppet's health is equal to the HP you spent to summon it. Your attacks emanate from the puppet rather than you while in this state, and you take no damage until the duration expires, or the puppet's HP hits 0, which would end your invuln early. When the puppet despawns, the aggro returns to you. You get the concept of the pet in a highly controlled fashion. It might be more than SE would be willing to create in this specific action as an example, but I feel like it wouldn't actually break their rules at all.

A dot mage makes the most sense since summoner is no longer one. People who enjoy dots no longer have one since summoner was taken from them.

1.) Rework Blue Mage
2.) A Close Ranged Caster Mystic Knight
3.) Druid or Weather Mage
4.) A Space-Time Caster

Here is a great dot mage they could use some of the concepts and make it their own. Scroll down to see spell descriptions. Affliction lock has 3-4 dots depending on if you take the siphon life talent, and you can explode one of them (corruption) with seed to AOE spread it like bane. The design is engaging and lots of fun to play. I like the soul shard builder spender system as well. The Agony Dot gives you chances to generate soul shards so the more mobs you dot with agony the faster you get shards to spend. Like the old BRD dots but it’s resource not a proc.

Geomancer has been teased since 4.0 and I think it’s identity as “far eastern white mage” would work really well. Something id like to see with it is placeable totems that buff the party or debuff enemies. Earth totems increase the damage you deal to anything in their range, water totems put a dot that heals you for the damage the dot deals, wind totems speed up your GCD or refresh your dots that are currently on cooldown. Something along those lines. I like having jobs with lots to keep track of and I’m 100% in favor of a really challenging caster being added considering summoner’s laughably easy state right now.

I couldn’t resist when you mentioned totems and white mage. Scroll down to see descriptions there are so many totems. Resto Shaman is a very fun healer to play. I think the coolest totem is spirit link, which evens out the HP of the entire party. So if people are really low it takes health from others to balance.

Elemental shaman is the dps caster with totems. I really like Ele too it has alot going on. I max shaman every expansion.
