Just a little feedback on the Reaper thus far...

I'm having a blast with the Reaper, but if I'm being honest, there are like two things that I feel really need to be addressed.

NOTE: My goal is ABSOLUTELY NOT to make the Reaper more powerful. Rather, these two things just seem kind of awkward and cumbersome to use, as currently presented.

1. Death's Design is SUPER unsatisfying to apply

It's a flat 10% damage increase. It's obviously necessary for boss fights, but it doesn't make me feel like I'm doing anything exciting when I push it. And because it takes up two slots (single-target & AoE application), it feels almost like ability-bloat.

I'd personally rather simply make it an off-GCD ability that deals no Damage but applies it via AoE), have it rolled into another ability (maybe reworking Harpe?), or even have it do some other kind of effect (ie. siphons health, deals poison damage, anything really). Or even just remove it.

2. There's no compelling reason to have TWO "Teleport" buttons

Hell's Ingress & Hell's Egress are effectively the same ability, and since they're based on direction faced (as opposed to your target), they just don't make much sense. Thing is, you HAVE to bind them both in order to use Threshold. I say, just have Hell's Ingress CHANGE to Hell's Egress (I'd almost argue the names are backwards, though) when Threshold is active.

That way, you only need one keybind, which is ENORMOUSLY important for us Controller-users. Not that the game needs to change to accommodate us, but I really can't think of a legitimate reason that Threshold couldn't simply apply to the skill you just used.

Otherwise, I'm honestly REALLY enjoying the class! Although I REALLY wish the Shroud Gauge was connected to the Death Gauge, in terms of the HUD setup. It's completely ruined the neat and tidy UI I spent hours fine-tuning...

They are not backwards. Egress means to exit, therefore it is the back step, ingress is to enter, thus the forward step.

I disagree. It's similar to a DoT and it's the only melee that has DoT/debuff upkeep outside of their combos. They just removed SMN DoTs and I don't want another job to lose debuff management. 10% damage is obviously beneficial, it deals a bit of damage and it even gives gauge during trash pulls. Not everything has to make another button flash and glow.

I like that there is no risk of accidentally double tapping the ability and being sent right back to where you started from.

Kinda agree with Shadow of Death and Whorl of Death. Seems like it's just a GCD Debuff(Not sure why people are calling it a DoT, since it's not a damage over time skill, but a Debuff) to just waste GCD.

Oh, and Soulsow. Not sure what they were thinking here... Instant out of Combat one time AoE attack, 5 second cast afterwards, which is a DPS loss if out of range compared to just using Harpe.

I'm still getting the hang on it, but pre-cast Soulsow before an engagement and (most likely in EX fights/Raids) when there's a downtime between first and second phase you recast it since you're just waiting anyway.

Yeah as someone who fights using legacy controls, I really only ever want to use the dash forward, as by the time im using the dash backwards, my brain has already started running my character away, and I wind up going the opposite directio from where I want to go.

Back/Forward teleport is super handy.
I've made many clutch saves with it and then I'm quickly back in the fight again without having to run.
Although it's not that often I do like knowing that it's there just incase.

It's a relatively high-value ranged GCD that can be banked and used if you're forced to disengage from the boss, but you only get a single usage per phase typically, so you need to optimize around it. It's meant to be recharged during downtime / phase transitions, not unlike skills like meditation. Personally I think it's one of my favorite parts of reapers kit.

Well, I use it on CD right after pull to benefit being in time with AC. And I know you can charge it during downtime, and I do. But still seems weird to even include it just for that since as I said, disengaging from boss it's better to just use Harpe.

Harpe is 300 potency. Harvest Moon is 600 potency. Arcane Circle is a 3% buff.

Using Harvest moon because you want to align it with AC nets you 18 extra potency. Replacing a usage of Harpe with Harvest Moon nets you 300 potency.

I know this, and you get to use it 2-3 times a fight, if that, most times twice. Where as you're out of range more then that if caught out. I'm not talking about charging it and using it before a pull or during downtime, but on how it's pointless. And someone brought up using it when have to disengage which to me means range, where Harpe would be better, 5 seconds cast vs 1.30.

If it was really pointless, you wouldn't be using it 2-3 times per fight. It's a valuable tool for maintaining valuable uptime during certain mechanics in both of the current EX encounters, and part of what helps to make the job feel unique. Something being slightly niche doesn't make it pointless.

soulsow charge + cast is 7.5 seconds for 600 potency
harpe x3 is 7.5 seconds for 900 potency.

Basically it's worth to charge soulsow only, and only if the boss is untargetable

A merge of arcane circle + plentiful harvest and enshroud + communion would have been greatly welcomed.

I'd agree that we don't particularly need two buttons, as compared to a single skill (imo, ideally in a 10-yalm, wide conal AoE) with fall-off after the first enemy hit. But I see no reason to outright remove it.

That said, I'd actually find the ability more fun if it lacked the Storm's Eye treatment (able to stack duration up to twice its amount added per application), since then there'd be something to optimize around.

My other nit-pick is just that Soul Slice / Soul Scythe's CDs should scale with the GCD.

Death's Deign is fun on AoE situation cuz of the gauge increase on monsters' death. It is also helpful fighting bosses with adds.


For fights with bosses only, well, not much. It is just an easier-to-upkeep Warrior's buff, which only asks you to press once instead of doing a full combo. Since the fight ends when the boss dies, you don't really have any use on the upon-death benefit. I think it is cooler if Death's Deign causes gauge increase per critical hit with Avatar's attack. With critical-based gauge increase, upon-death gauge increase can be nuked or kept.

Death's Design is amazing in raids where alliances practically give you free gauge and it is also useful for delaying your Shroud so you can end your shroud and go right into another one without any wait time.

Harvest Moon is the only caveat but can be used between pulls and downtime. Could potentially charge up during Shroud so you can Communio > HM > PH into another Shroud. Overall the 3 Harpes will be much better then charging Harvest Moon in the long term.

I also find Harvest Moon kind of awkward to use. VERY cool-looking skill, but again, just a little awkward. But I'm not ready to suggest any changes; hoping it has more of a place in raids.

As far as Death's Design goes, I honestly lean more towards it being an off-GDC AoE skill, dealing no damage but applying/stacking the debuff. The reason is simple; having it compete for GCD use just feels weird and unsatisfying. Making it off-GCD tightens up the rotation a bit more, giving you reason to use it on everything, which actually raises the skill ceiling somewhat, while at the same time condensing the two buttons.

As far as Hell's Ingress and Egress go; how about just leaving both skills, but letting us push the same one to use Threshold? So you CAN you either or both, but us controller-users can also just use Ingress and we're good to go.

Soulsow makes sense. It’s just a downtime tool, plain and simple. Prepull so you can use it in your opener, cast it when a boss goes untargetable, use it when the boss comes back. Death’s design however, is really bad. It would be better if they did any of the following:
1. Made it an ogcd.
2. Gave it a longer cooldown so you had to line it up with bursts instead of keeping it up 100% of the time.
3. Removed it.

Was going back through looking, and yeah I honestly still agree with what I originally said; applying the debuff just feels kind of awkward and unsatisfying. I'd honestly be happy just removing it entirely, but simply removing ALL damage components and making it an oGCD ability would feel a lot more fluid. Ideally, we could just have a single AoE debuff, but maybe just keep the AoE one as-is (again, removing any damage caused), and make the single-target one ranged, so it has SOME amount of utility, being able to reapply your debuff at a range (plus be able to use it to "pull" enemies when running outdoor content or unsynced dungeons).
