Any job you have a love/hate relationship with?

I typically always main healers in MMORPGs. Max level of every healer, and sometimes multiple times in WoW before I quit.

Ive at least dabbled in every healer in XIV at this point now.

Scholar. OMG I love the way this job plays. It fits my play style well, it feels powerful, I enjoy the aether flow and it works well on controller for me.

But their glamour, is just awful, their weapon (a book) and job identity/lore...what is going on with this part of it? What even am I? What is a "scholar" just a student? I thought scholars were like doctors but sage ability names seem to give the surgeon role to them.

Anyway, is their a job that you love the playstyle but dislike the fantasy of the job or vice versa?

BLM but it's more of a hate/hate relationship.

White Mage.

I nearly always play support classes in RPGs, and always in MMOs. I like the wizard staff aesthetic, elemental blasts, powerful restorative spells, all that stuff really draws me.

It's a shame the job is a zero-depth boring spammy snorefest. You draw me in with this promise of an arcane powerhouse, and all the flexibility and infinite universe-bending possibility implied by sorcery... and you give me a class that spams one sparkleblast. Over and over and over. With like 5 healing buttons that do the same thing and don't reward brain activity in the slightest. That you use in between casting the single sparkleblast. And casting the sparkleblast. And casting the sparkleblast. And casting the sparkleblast. And casting the sparkleblast.

- Paladin: My main job; I love its Holy Knight vibe, theme, abilities & able to help myself & others through clemency.

- White Mage: 2nd main job; very straightforward, it has that “graceful” vibe & calming.

(Dislike)

- Dancer; can’t be bothered & seriously I feel like being on a musical Teathre disney performance.

- Red Mage; shouldn’t it be called “Rez Mage? It gives me vertigo & just way overrated.

Busted ass OP job, yet they've made it have way too many buttons now. This is the worst version of it yet.

AST

Love the gameplay, even though it's murder on my fingers, along with its general aestethics, but the Lore behind it doesn't really compel me. The job quests left me confused more than anything and I found myself far more interested in the Sharlayan politics aspect of it than the actual astrology bits.

Usually, if I'm not interested in the job fantasy I lose interest in the job as a whole but AST somehow managed to retain my attention. It's going to be my next lvl 90 job and go-to healer.

RDM - When it was first announced, I was ecstatic. After playing it, I quickly realized how boring it was and how plain the spell effects were.

Now, I haven't played EW RDM yet, so maybe my opinion will change.

I adore the aesthetic. I adored the gameplay. And I want to tackle another Savage tier with it. But why - oh why - did they have to rework it the way they did?

Second this. I liked MNK despite its redundant and niche abilities before because I love the job identity and the animations and the SPEED.

Besides that WHM for me. Familiarity breeds contempt and WHM has always been the cozy healer I could just play and be reactive with but it's gotten very boring. Also, with its aesthetic shifting to tinkerbells and sparkle flowers I kind of hate it now.

Mained it in HW and SB. Still leveled it up in ShB for the job story, but dropped it aside from that.
Love the edgy aesthetic and self-reflective themes in its story... Hate the insanely bland gameplay style it has devolved into.

It's a little better. More Jumping into and out of melee combo and brighter red lasers :D

AST is the opposite of scholar to me.

I absolutely love the class fantasy of AST. The stars, the cards, the buffs, all of it. But its absolutely nuts to play, at least with a controller. I suck at it.

Bard. I want to play a ranger class so bad, but they combined the archer job with the bard support archetype. I always felt like bard fits better as a spellcaster (and no, NOT the HW bowmage lmao). The gameplay of bard is so fun, I love living on procs and I love that my rotation isn't a 1-2-3 combo, but please SE my boy is not a bard please give me a ranger job. Q___Q

I thought I was a master at it in Shadowbringers, but then came the Endwalker change. It was unnecessary and now I'm lost... It's a job I *HAVE* to level to 90 rather than *WANT* to. Cant wait to get it over with

All healer jobs. Extremely fun in instanced content but I just can't ever see myself maining one because of how boring they are in world content.

Summoner.

Summoners are probably my favorite part of the Final Fantasy universe. I love the games that revolve around them (IX, X). I feel like its one of the only fantasy universes where summoners aren't demonic spellcasters and are actually often aligned with white magic (Garnet, Yuna).

2.0 SMN felt like a WoW warlock clone in a lot of ways. Small visually unappealing pets (looking at you nuggets). The majority of our 2.0 spells all had to do with disease. Bio, Bio II, Miasma, Fester, Bane. It was by far the least visually appealing class in the game. It felt like they knew they wanted to add a new job for ARR, and so they copied other games and used some leftover assets that were removed from other classes in 1.0. Things improved over time, but each expansion seemed to add more clunk. They added a new system in each and every expansion.

We're now in 6.0 and while I love the class from a visual perspective, I feel like this far into FFXIV the class needs more depth. This iteration of the job would have been great in 2.0 or 3.0, maybe even 4.0. 6.0 is about as complex as 4.0 red mage, maybe even a little bit less. There's zero resource management. With 4.0 Red mage had to pay attention to procs, as well as keeping white and black mana balanced.

Monk

It's been my main for seven years, and I love the fast paced nature of the job, and I loved dancing around the bosses to land positionals. But the hate comes in now that Square kept making bosses spin themselves around over and over... and that enemies in instanced, single-player fights and enemies in the open world didn't have omnipositional rings. And at the moment sitting in the spot of really wanting to love the job, but the changes this expansion make it just so hard... removal of positionals wasn't a HUGE deal since I still play the base rotation like they still exist, but masterful blitz is a clunky mess to use that completely breaks the natural flow of the job.

I love casting jobs kupo (blm in particular), love the lore behind them etc.. then I play mch and that is that kupo lol <3 kupo

Machinist. As I've said across threads on these forums, it does hurt to lose out on one Heat Blast. I see those cancelled animations, game! But goodness do I still love the raw swift damage it outputs. I hate the ping reliance, but I love the fast daredevil gunner play.

Used to be my main, Summoner, because it's my favorite Final Fantasy job but has always been an awkward poison mage in XIV. Now with Endwalker I don't have that problem anymore - even though it's still awkward for different reasons and has tons of room for improvement in the design, at least it feels like I'm summoning things and I can hope it just gets tweaks along this idea as time goes on now.

The other, still solidly love/hate, is Black Mage. I almost always use one in other FF games, and it was my main job in XI for a long time as well. But I am not a fan of its design in XIV at all; it's way too complicated for me to have fun with and it feels like I'm fighting against the entire design of the game the whole time I'm playing it. I know there are people who love the complexity and being rewarded for playing a job well, I just wish that job was something else so my slow ass could cast the spells that make the peoples fall down.
