Paladin Sub Jobs to be effective

Hey guys. I am a returning player and advanced jobs were not around back when I last played like a yr ago. I just got my GLAD to 30 today. I want to be an effective tank for endgame etc. I am currently leveling CNJ to 15 to be able to start the quest for PLD. My questions are :

1. should I level CNJ past level 15? If so, till what level and for what abilities?
2. are there any other classes I should level? to what level and for what abilities?

You want to get key abilities from other jobs to make an effective tank.
Conjurer's Stoneskin, and Puglist's Second Wind are just two examples to make things easier. I would also suggest Lancer's Invigorate for more effecrive TP gain. You came back at a good time, Paladin is getting some nice buffs so we will see more of them ranking hopefully.

Jobs can't equip abilities from any class they want, only classes can do that. PLD can equip Marauder and Conjurer abilities ONLY, not Lancer or Pugilist.

From Marauder you for sure need to equip Provoke if you are going to tank, Foresight is a good one and Bloodbath can help if you are in an HP pinch and the Mage is dead.

From Conjurer I would recommend Stoneskin (acquired LVL 26) and Cure.

I don't think you can parry if you have a shield equipped, so Foresight is useless. Other than that, great info! With sources even!

My recommendation on Conjurer is to level up to 34 to get Sacred Prism. Sacred Prism will turn your next Cure or Stoneskin into a party move. And an AoE cure (if you happen to be in a flexible party) will generate a good amount of enmity. Stoneskin will absorb a good chunk of damage if your healers and support Stoneskin is on cooldown. Helps your healers save MP on a Cure they could have used on you, which in turn allows them to generate less enmity.

Your high vitality will improve your enhancing magic potency, so your Stoneskin will be a little tougher than a Bard's Stoneskin. And your Protect will give you a little more defense than most conjurers. (Conjurers will get passive traits to have a stronger Stoneskin and their Protect spell will also improve magic defense).

And Marauder to level 15 for purposes of playing Paladin.

I haven't played PLD much since jobs came out for obvious reasons, but with the cast time and low enhancement magic, is Stoneskin really worth it? I've read in places that Sacred Prism with a Cure is more effective. On a boss like Garuda, how long is Stoneskin really going to hold up?

If you're Paladin (or Knight in JP), you have only 2 classes for sub skills (Conjurer and Marauder)

My subs are
(Conjurer Lv. 2) Cure - heal yourself and allies (+gain enmity)
(Conjurer Lv.34) Sacred Prism - make Cure,Stoneskin AoE (more enmity)
(Conjurer Lv.18) Raise (rarely use it but just in case I really need it)
(Marauder Lv. 6) Bloodbath - help restore hp
(Marauder Lv.14) Provoke - must have for tanking (Increase enmity)

If I can manage my MP better, I will switch Bloodbath to Stoneskin (Conjurer Lv.26) : ).

Another question for when I start up PLD. Should I put points into DEX and VIT only? Thats really what I have putting my points in so far while leveling GLAD. I also didn't expect to have to level any class like CNJ to 34 for Sacred Prism >.<. But I guess I'll have to

I've been seeing more VIT and MND. MND contributes toward enmity generation on your Flat Blade combo.

Not sure how much impact on accuracy and block rate that DEX will have. I'm sure it makes an impact, just don't know how much.

As for the points, MND and STR are what GLA attacks are based on. You may wish to put them there and get any VIT you need from gear. VIT only gives a 1:1 HP ration and 4:1 enhancing magic ratio as well as likely a 4:1 defense ratio though we don't (to my knowledge) have actual proof of.

Same goes for PLD when I start leveling that?

So I just unlocked PLD. You can only equip 3 max abilities total from CNJ and GLAD? I thought I could use as many as I wanted from them. I wanted to equip provoke, stoneskin, cure, protect and bloodbath. I'm PLD30

Scales up to 5 cross-class at level 50. 10 without a job crystal equipped.

Once you hit Level 50, you can choose 5 abilities from Conj and Murader. I would suggest sticking with gladiator for more abilities till you hit 50.

If I keep leveling GLAD till 50, when I equip the PLD soul, I'll be PLD50? They don't have separate experience each? Sorry for the noobness, I just came back 2.5 weeks ago. Jobs weren't around last time I played.

A paladin is always a gladiator, but a gladiator isn't always a paladin. Jobs are just modifications of classes (restricts cross-class selection to 2 classes, grants 5 new abilities, allows access to some gear, denies access to some gear, alters stats) and have no experience points of their own. Your level as gladiator is what matters.
