Starbird Minion

SPOILER Warning

A complaint, but more just a 'I wonder why' type complaint. I don't hate SE for it or anything, just wondering why they did it this way.


Anyway, after 48 runs (and counting) of Trust and PF on the last dungeon I still don't have this minion or even seen it drop for anyone. Because they made it a rare drop in the dungeon.

But why didn't they just give us this one? I think lore-wise it would have made sense (and the reason I want it.) We redeemed Metion, we showed her there was more to life than despair, now give her to us to stay by our side and show the rest of the goods of the world.

Every time they've given us an in-story minion it's been for some sort of purpose such as that. I get why we got Venat, she was important and respected. But I can't help but think they should have held Starbird back for a later quest, or an after-quest or some sort.

To earn her as our partner.

I like having relevant stuff like this to work towards and not just handed out because it can be. RNG can suck, but the day I get the drop will be a happy day.

I think you missed the point. I don't want it just to be handed out to have a rare. Any other minion I get working towards. I mean STORY-WISE this would have been a good one to give us, like they did Midgard and Anima (the weapon one)

I guess I did miss the point, because it sounded like you wanted it to be a reward for doing the story, and I don't think it's necessary. Personally I feel that it's very relevant to the dungeon it drops in and makes it more sentimentally meaningful.

Is it really incentive when people choose to just run it with Trusts so there's no competition though?

I got so bored of the monotony of it I literally just pull the packs together then run ahead, let them DPS them down, help on the boss, rinse and repeat now.

Yeah it can.

I hate everything that's still just totally random instead of being something we can actually work toward. How many runs do you need? Who knows! Someone who will never use it will get it on the first clear, while someone who does want it could do it literally thousands of times and just not get it.

I don't understand why this minion can't be put on the marketboard at the very least.

Yeah I wish they'd at least make it where it gives you it after you have literally everything else the dungeon offers.

I have farmed it so many times I have every accessory for every class, the music, and full tome gear.
I literally open a chest and it's just 'cannot obtain item' now.

Just don't have the minion, at that point the chests are useless to me lol.

I got it on my Trust clear for my main. Got to love rng I suppose. I hate chasing stuff and for me at least I'm not a collector which helps.

My question is why isn't there a token system for these untradeable minions when even EX mounts (that come from content infinitely harder than dungeons) have a token system? Like you wouldn't need to worry about "flooding the marketplace" and "ruining the economy" if they are untradeable, so I honestly don't know why there isn't a token system for each of these untradeable minions. Like this stupid RNG garbage would be bearable if after 99 runs you're guaranteed to get it by swapping tokens for it but as far as I'm concerned you either get in on your first run or do a million runs and never see it drop.

Or just let us buy these minions from other players like every other minion that drops in every dungeon apart from this expansion. You know, like how it has worked for a decade.

Figured as much but that's only in the journal part which I can't even find to be honest - that doesn't show up on the market board either. Spoilers haven't kept them from putting various minions and miniatures of bosses or characters people will encounter on the market board either. So, it still doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me that the one I want gets to be the one dungeon minion I can think of that can only be obtained through RNG alone.

Because they know people typically avoid directly queuing into the final dungeon unless there's a highly desirable reward. They did this in Stormblood too, which makes me think the Magitek Predator mount they gave us wasn't enough of an incentive to keep Ala Mhigo popping. I'm actually surprised they don't put rare drop mounts or minions in the trials. You almost never see Innocence and it'll probably be the same for Hydaelyn, sadly.

yes Trust have less dungeon loot compared to actual people

Honestly I'm just kinda pissed they didn't make it sellable on the marketboard.

Totally understand the frustration. I actually got the minion last night after only about 10 runs. I just had to have it.

Normally, my RNG in this game is absolute horse shit, but last night I got really lucky.

They seem to do it for other minions too, like the Tiny Troll minion.

Well at least it prevented me from the temptation of selling the minion for oodles of gil. I was lucky enough to get the minion on my first run that I just decided to do trust to see the NPC banter/dialogue.

A lot of the minions have the Unique/Untradeable tag not for spoiler reasons, but to prevent someone from rolling when they already own it. It just seems to be one of the ways that they've tossed into various dungeons/raids/etc to keep people farming them forever so new players can have easier queues. It's been like this in the storyline dungeons for quite a bit now.

The minion description you can only see if you own the minion and are looking at it in minion guide.

I think this is the real reason. If it was actually spoilers they were trying to avoid, then they did a really bad job with like 100 other minions that are tradeable.

Literally all they have to do to resolve that issue is spoiler flag the text until the player has finished the 6.0 main story. Even mobile games like Genshin do such a simple thing.

I wish it was on the market board too. Been trying for days and gave up to get my TV mount but now I'll try again and hope I'll get it soon.

The Starbird responds to these emote:

• /handover = Flies over and feeds from your hand
• /beckon = Flies toward you, turns, and perches on your shoulder
• /pet = When flying, it will perform a loop

If you read above... I already said I and others are just running it with trusts so we don't roll wrong if it does drop.

That's helping no one else either.

I'm at 62 runs now btw =(

I addressed everything you said, without needing to say more than a sentence. It falls on you to acknowledge that one sentence can be used to respond to three separate points without needing to be addressed point by point.
