Nah.
May the force be with you tho.
I haven't played that game in like 6 years. I'm good. This was a good laugh though.
You can... After playing FF14 I just cannot play SWTOR. It mechanics are so outdated and the characters look so ugly. Heck, all the facial hair in SWTOR look taped on. Even the hotbars look bad.
This coming from someone who beat Fallen Empire on both sides and beat every class, companion, and planet story.
I also will not play SWTOR unless I'm subbed and right now my sub time is all in on FF14.
This is all just a plot by OP to get less people to play the game so the queues are shorter.
Good luck trying to play this week an expansion that got delayed until february.
I'm sorry, but I'll never understand people that act like SWTOR had this epic level of writing quality. It doesn't. The writing is generally at about the level of how I wrote when I was 15. It's perfectly fine but it's all fairly simple plots and devices. The fun comes out of getting to make some choices and see your character actually DO the thing you wanted them to.
FFXIV's storywriting is much higher level than SWTOR's. However, sometimes it is a lot less fun because of it as the dialogue can be too long and start to drag. Or can be about weird stuff you don't understand or don't care about. I think this expansion's writing is worse than SWTOR's though so I'll give you one expansion. The rest there's no contest.
You mistyped February

I hate to be that guy, but SWTOR was such an excellent game at launch - it's not now what it once was.
That being said, the story is still a lot of fun to play through, and I'd recommend it.
Depend which storyline you play in SWTOR
I would say Republic smuggler and Imperial agent are the best, better than FFXIV. Bounty Hunter and Sith Lord are quite good either as good as FFXIV HW, the rest are pretty meh like FFXIV SB meh, both Jedi (Knight and Councillor are even worse)
Shadow of Revan is the best expansion story wise, I would weight it over HW. Quit before finishing Knights of the Fallen Empire can’t comment on it.
FFXIV my rating go HW=ShB>ARR>SB, have not finish EW cannot comment
Why I prefer SWTOR story over FFXIV story,
FFXIV choice have no impact on how story go.
Too many “Sad background story to redeem a character.”
Some of the antagonists have a rather weak reason for their actions
FFXIV have a very clear good vs evil, black vs white, feel strongly target toward teenagers
I've played them all, I disagree. The Choices in SWTOR are what, to me, weakens the narrative as they have to either simplify them, or make them overall meaningless. KofFE was about the only one that I felt my previous decisions mattered because it effected what companions I got to keep or get back, although even then it felt unrewarding or good as a story.
I feel like I am only one sometimes who actually enjoyed the Consular story. :(
I also quite liked my little crew that my character gathered, especially Qyzen! He followed me on all my adventures racking up the kills for his scorekeeper.
Shall never forget that time someone important in the Consular story perished and my fricken character raised them.. Because you know, we have a resurrection ability.. and heals.. I heal people during my cutscenes because I have heals too.. Square.. stop making me watch people die with my hand outstretched like a buffoon.
It's been a while but I enjoyed all the 1-50 stories. After that it was just meh. They took out so much that made the game fun. You use to be able to give Nadia a single light saber. Then they homogenized all the companions.
Smuggler was my favorite, but I think every class gets some opportunities to just impulsively kill someone. That is something FFXIV is missing.
i mean its a LOT of work keeping 8 story lines going. and the 8 class stories were a big thing many people liked. it was predictable that they couldnt keep up with that format
To be fair... Sith Warrior is extremely well-written. Especially if you are Neutral and not full Light or Dark. Keeping Jaesa light sided really made things interesting too.
Bounty Hunter is good too... If you're Light-Sided. Dark-Side makes no sense since Light-Side is more Mandalorian (while Dark-Side is just dumb and self-hurting yourself) which the Bounty Hunter story pushes hard towards after you get Torian.
SWTOR has better storytelling. By the by, FFXIV would probably be a f2p game too if they hadn't taken the gamble to rebuild the game for ARR which turned it *more* into an MMO like WoW and SWTOR.
XIV coasted along for years after ARR without much notice until Shadowbringers so I wouldn't get too confident with its place as the number one MMO. XIV lacks a lot of things that draw people, for instance it'll never have good PvP and MSQ will only tide people over for a week every couple of months. It's mostly enjoying the success it is right now because WoW is getting bad press and there aren't many options in the MMO space anymore.
Your hat is safe. Heck even February is looking overly aggressive and that's not even considering the massive outcry against many of the changes they're making. It's shaping up to be yet another disaster on the scale of 5.0.
Which is a shame. SW:TOR was my first MMO and I've been a fan of Star Wars since A New Hope's original release in 1977. These days the only times I've played was when XIV had extended maintenance but I just picked up Elite: Dangerous during a Steam's Black Friday sale and having fun with that.
It must be a sith trick. I wont be fool by that!
.....Nice try
May the force be with you friend. I can barely play XIV as my main game and keep up with life, let alone commit myself to another MMO.
Well SWTOR got better zone design than a ffxiv to be fair
after seeing some of them in Endwalker... i think they didn't put much effort into creating them
Its been delayed till next year .
Isn't that the game that asked F2P characters to pay real money to unlock hide helm? Or to match all your colors? Or to glam gear? Or to unlock new hotbars? Surprised it didn't come with an energy system where you can only take so many steps a day before it runs out and asks you to buy more.
No thanks.
Well because it's not exactly f2p . When you pay sub, everything is available including expansions. Similar to ESO.
Yes FFXIV mechanics are so damn up to date and cutting edge in the MMO industry. They involve standing in, standing out, standing with a partner, standing alone in a clock position. Light parties, or TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT. And people still cant do em correctly. Yes very up to date mechanics.
tbf with the current state of affairs, i understand turning left or right is hard.
I played SWTOR for several years. My opinion is: It is good MMO which can be played as single player game (all story dungeons can be finished in solo STORY mode) for the Star Wars feeling and story only (strongest part of it by far). PVP and raiding is mediocre. After i finished the story part of the game (some of them repeatedly because of light/dark aproach) I stayed because of the friends I found there.
What I think is bad is its otpimalization (It can lag spike even on good PC just because of its bad engine and you will find hard time finding way around) and limited and, compared to FF14, not so fun endgame. People were also much more toxic out there when I played it.
When you want to have a break from FF14 then SWTOR is a good option and I would recomend it. Dont expect miracles though. I am not even surprised with the expension delay and the lenght of it. That was common even in pre Covid era.
When you want to start new MMO and you are not a vivid Star Wars fan then FF14 is much better option...if you will survive first half of ARR.
What are you even talking about? Heavensward is one of the best expansions after ARR and is still beloved by many in the community. Storm Blood I admit was lower in terms of story but then shot way up with shadowbringers so I don't get where you get this "Coasted for years" take from because its wrong.
FFXIV isn't trying to be something its not FFXIV is not for PVP minded players. FFXIV is for people that like the story and most of all SOCIAL interactions with a sprinkle of raiding. If you someone that has been here since 2013 hasn't seen that yet I don't know what else to tell you.
As for your comment about FFXIV only enjoying its success because WoW players came over you are again wrong because Shadowbringers was a big success even before Blizzard crap the bed.
About SWTOR having a better story I have to disagree as I played it at launch and even came back to it with the Eternal throne expansion and it has never once made me feel anything unlike FFXIV I actually gave a crap about the characters and actually felt something when something happened. Now again this is probably the most personal thing because it can go either way but in my opinion FFXIV story for ME is much better because again I actually felt emotions while going through it. SWTOR on the other hand I didn't feel anything at all.
Heavensward was a step above ARR which isn't saying much. It's one of the better expansions sure but mostly for its increase in the quality of its presentation and voice acting. The story itself was Pope bad, religion lied, let's do democracy now. Ishgard is still my favorite nation despite all that.
The community was much smaller in HW too and the amount of players rose through Stormblood, which had a worse story than HW but better content btw. I also mentioned the game went by without much notice until Shadowbringers, this is true. I don't attribute all of the game's growth to WoW's misfortune, but it certainly got a surge of growth, hype, and attention in the last couple of months because of it and that's undeniable. The server issues might see it lose some of that popularity, time will tell. It's also undeniable that there just aren't many other options out there. Other games do certain things much better than XIV but XIV does several things decently and has a good aesthetic even if it's pretty dated by this point.
Onto XIV not trying to be something it's not, they used to make more of an effort for PvP. I actually liked to casually play PvP back in HW. Was it always balanced? Certainly not, but it was more fun to me. Anyway I pointed it out as one of the glaring things this game does not provide that many other MMOs do better. It's more about SOCIAL interactions with a sprinkle of raiding? That's one thing to call the content droughts that lead people to stand around idly in cities or run ERP night club/bar venues. This game has always had content lulls that lead to substantial population dips and that's going to remain true because not everyone is trying to play Second Life on here. Don't be surprised if a lot of people don't come back after this expansion rush, and don't take this game's current success for granted.
As for SWTOR I've played every class to 50 and got through Knights of the Fallen Empire so I'm not current on the story but overall what I experienced there was more engrossing and interesting than XIV's story. Some class storylines are better than others, I played Agent first and that was also my main so I got to have probably the best experience as my first impression. I felt more attached and felt more of a sense of ownership to some of my SWTOR characters than I've ever felt towards the WoL. Overall I think SWTOR has better storytelling between the way its presented, the factions involved, the decisions you can take, its morality system, and Valkorion was just a very enigmatic and far more interesting antagonist than most of the ones XIV has given us. XIV has become such a convoluted mess of a story that now contradicts itself and just hand waves away issues that crop up. EW was a really mediocre way to finish the story arc and at least a lot of people on the forums can see the way they cut corners with this story.
