How difficult can it be...

I get it, this beautiful game has a cool new expansion and as YoshiP has told us countless times, the servers are congested!

Today I thought I was going to be lucky, *only* waited 2 hours when I got down to position 58 in the queue. But no my friends, no! Error 2002-ex crushed my dreams once again! *Spiritbond with ground completed*


BUT you see, that is not really what bothers me the most. When I tried to login again, my queue position was up to over 4000 again.

I mean... how difficult would it be for the login server to *remember* the user's queue position even if error 2002 happens? Reserve their spot for a couple of minutes to give the user a chance to hop back in where they were...

Do we require a rocket scientist here?

Think of the poor server hamsters. Not only do they have to deal with thousands upon thousands of people screaming at them to let them in now, now you want them to remember your place in the line of screaming banshees??

But the queue remembers your spot already if you login quick enough? I got a 2002 after an hour of waiting today too and got the same spot as i had before the 2002.

Now my time to ask a question! How is your thread any different from the million others that already posted and complained about that said error and why did you feel like you just had to spam more of the same said threads?

Do we require an optician here?

how long did it take you to try and log back in after your 2002? it wont hold your place indefinitely.

They had plenty of time to think about this, so yes.

It shouldn’t be too hard.

Client side - on refresh of queue place encrypt the time and queue place and store it locally. On successful login delete the previous local data.

Server side - On login send the time and place, decrypt it, and run an algorithm to determine an appropriate place in line.

Im pretty sure that if you get 2002'd and your spot in line is ready to load into the game while you are still trying to reconnect to the lobby server your spot is lost and you are sent to the back of the line. This has happened to me 3 times.

Love playing the devil's advocate eh, I could have ranted more about not being able to play, but no, you kinda missed the point of the topic. I just wondered why they do not seem to have a rather simple system implemented, or at least one that works properly.

Replying to the other person, probably took me a couple of mins to get back in queue, but it was too late already.

Problem is when you keep getting errors when trying to connect again, and then it's too late :P

There have been times when I have been 2002'd and logged in immediately after, and not gotten my place back. However long the timer is, its not long enough. Unlike the chip shortage, this is within SE's power to fix.

not sure what the timing is, but I have gotten the 2002 error a couple times since redoing my internet at home, and get my spot back. cant say why its not working for you

could be size of teh queue maybe? hard to say

Explain why storing encrypted data client side is a bad idea. I'm happy to have a discussion on the details of software design if you're up for it.

(Spoiler, FFXIV already stores some data client side.)

EVERY SINGLE MMO has data clientside. Saying that it had anything to do with New World failing is like talking about the food served on the Titanic.

The issue is that if you get 2002'd in q, then cant even get back to the q for 3-4 tries because more 2002, and for some reason the lazy ass engineers decided that a log in failure should require a complete relaunch of the game, it takes more than the "tens of seconds" it holds your spot for.

They could fix this, all I am hearing is excuses because SE doesn't want to spend the money. They know in 2-3 months the subscriber base will drop away and they don't want to invest now, they would rather ride it out. Everything they are selling us is bull.

For now, I'm willing to believe there may be some logical, if abstract, reasoning for why they can't increase the reservation timer. Most often, when an "obvious" solution isn't being implemented, it'll be because they, too, have already thought of it and determined some impracticality. If the login servers are struggling because they're overloaded, then saving a spot in line for everyone erroring out is counterproductive to the server erroring everyone out. They'd just need to make a new error to keep from getting stuck in the old one.

Or something dumb/weird like that. Cuz, seems more irrational to believe they could be extending the timer but refuse because they just don't care or whatever.

The game logged me out today due to loss of internal connection, but it could also have been a loss of connection of my personal line, the fact is that after 5 seconds i log back in and i was in position 5k ..
P.S. i was inside the pod, how the game can't remember in case i had a group activity going on?

Sure could be. I work at a software engineering company and it's simple to make excuses when you do not want to get out of your way with customer requests. It probably involves other work/QA/whatever that they do not want to deal with right now.

This is not always the case. I was getting 2002's after that one maintenance the other day that reset my queue position instantly. We're talking a window of like 20 seconds.

That and the fact that the story is beautiful. If your mad about ques idk what to tell you. Maybe mmos aren't your thing? Or your a nee mmo player? Since anyone whose played even a single mmo during a release window knows that ques are inevitable.

Ahhh for sure, I played 1.0 and I agree with you - at least for those in, the game works pretty good and the expansion is great.

If only they worked a bit more on a more robust login management setup :)

Queues are fine, but getting kicked out of the game and starting the queue over, or losing your spot over the 2002 error because "your internet is bad and you are losing packets" is just poor excuses and short sighted unfortunately. Sound like 2002 indeed, the year though.

I hope you're trolling or joking. LOL. This is by FAR the WORST mmo launch in the last 5 years. Hiding behind massive que times for server stability is not a smooth launch.. far from it. Most other games open the flood gates, but more people can play. SE really screwed up on this one, because they refuse to spend money on server capacity. They have been selling us BULL since the moment Yoshi P was crying, because of the delayed launch. This is an issue that could've been avoided with a little of our $ that they get every month. Instead, they give us a week of free NON- gaming time, but i fear they will have to give more, and end up wasting more money in the long run.

Most people are not sitting in these ques for hours and hours they will be going to other games, and maybe they'll forget about FFXIV all together once they get sucked in. This is a HUGE failure for SE and the SE Keyboard warriors are running out of ways to defend their favorite gaming company that could do no wrong.

upgrade your servers SE, spend the money. /end rant.

I've gotten 2002'd 4 times in a row before, and it still saved my spot. No idea why so many people are having issues with it

I guess reading comprehension is not your strongest trait. People are not mad about the queues. They are mad because they are being disconnected from the queues and if they are not the flash, or if they actually have a life outside of the game, then they get kicked back to the end of the queue.

If the ONLY complaint you has involves the que than be thankful! I'd far prefer any number of problems with the que over problems with things that actually matter. You know like gameplay, story etc.

The que problems will be easily solved. Problems with the core cannot. So yes all your problems with the que, whichever form it takes, matters little.

Had the exact same thing happen to me today as well. Logged in early because I knew the queue was going to be bad landed at 3700 ish and after about 2.5 - 3 hrs of babysitting the queue screen for possible errors, I got down to about 800. I had to get up to take care of something real quick and when I came back I been dc'd / error screen. I tried to log back in asap but when I did I was over 5500 in queue. It took little over 3 hrs to go from 3700 to 800, now I'm looking at another 3-4 hrs to actually get in. I understand the situation atm and I sympathize with both the player base and the people at SE. I really wish they would get this back under control it's been going on long enough imho.

Anyone who says they understand what going on, then turn around and complain about how the system is flawed is not understanding of the situation at all. On the contrary, that aggravated emotions that are trying to be logical but can't process it that way because emotions are in the way of the logical thought process.

Yes. I will sit here and be grateful as 2002 removes me from the queue yet again, and I have to start back over. Again, and again, and again. Queuewalker is certainly a fantastic new expansion ! I'm loving every second of it. Thank you so much for your enlightening post !

Yeah I'm going to chime in again on this issue because it's immensely frustrating. Especially when the queue is 5k+ on my server and I know from experience that takes several hours to complete. I'm not going to sit at my computer and just stare at the countdown for 3 or 4 hours waiting for my turn to play. Instead, I'm going to queue up, crank the volume up, and go downstairs to watch some TV or eat dinner or whatever and when I hear the game music and sounds of people doing things around me, I know I'm finally in. The problem is, that never happens. Because I can't be in the queue more than about 30 minutes without a 2002 error kicking me out. So at this point my options are very limited to actually play the game because if I'm not willing to get up first thing in the morning and log on before there's a queue and then offer human sacrifices to Comcast in the hopes that my connection will remain stable so I don't get kicked out...

Which brings up another great point actually. When you get dropped from the game because an instance server goes down or something silly like a temporary lapse in internet connection, you have to sit through the entire queue again. This has happened to me several times since the launch of Endwalker and it's super frustrating as well. Because you "did your time" and waited in the queue so you could play and then something beyond your control boots you out (sounds a lot like the 2002 error now doesn't it) and you're stuck in the queue again for another 3-4 hours.

So basically at this point unless you're playing in the off-peak times for your server when no one else is awake/playing... Endwalker has become a never-ending loop of waiting to maybe play the game so you can wait to maybe play the game. At the very very least, we need to resolve the 2002 error crap. If you're in the queue, you're in the queue. If your spot in line "comes up" and you aren't actively in the game client ready to connect to the server, then you lost it and you have to start over. If you get into the queue at position 5500 and get kicked out with a 2002 error at position 4000, as long as you log back in and rejoin the queue before spot 4000 is "called" to get into the server, you get. your. spot. back.

If you're internet goes out or you lag out because your ISP had issues that is NOT SEs or your fault. You will simply have to log back in just like everybody else does. Deal with it.

Stop playing the victim and realize that maybe the situation in which you're playing or trying to play in is not the perfect situation. It is your duty to find the best possible scenario.

You keep mising the point. Packages get lost all the time on the internet. That should not cause the login server to be not able to consistently save your spot properly for a little while if you get a 2002 or if you get kicked out of the game.

They don't care about your satisfaction, only the appearance of it. They don't care due to the horrendous amounts of white knights who have been foolish enough to play WoW to think that this is great service.

WoW and FFXIV have both been awful off/on. This happens just about every expansion or major release and they definitely knew it would come.

No excuses cover this.
