3 min?? That's pretty unreasonable. What if I need to poop?
People who run scripts or have things set up to cheat the system won't be affected. A system like this would likely only hurt honest players who have to AFK more than 3 minutes to use the restroom, or deal with pets, kids, and other responsibilities they can't avoid and need to legitimately AFK a little while to deal with things in.
I think the issue is people can easily avoid the current afk measures through simple physical measures which are not software related. Apart from the game becoming extremely unpopular were probably going to be stuck with error 2002 for awhile.
What SE could do however is introduce CAPTCHA or variants of it in-game perhaps every hour or so (only while servers are having 2002 errors due to congestion) and not while in a duty/instance to filter out people who are actually afk but dodging.
How would this help queues? The people kicked out would just immediately be queuing back in, and you'd be faced with all the same congestion errors.
You're completely right, but you don't even have to go that far to find fault with this suggestion. There are roulette queues longer than 3 minutes, among other things.
I can't tell if this thread is supposed to be a joke but if it's not, the idea wasn't thought out very much.
Great idea. Log out to take a 5 mins bathroom break and wait 3 hours to get back in game. NO WAY. 30 mins is a good time. People need to take breaks here and there for restroom, get drink stretch, etc. SE determined 30 min was reasonable and it is.
Not to mention duty ques are more than 3 minutes.
This would only penalize legit players and further make people use anti afk methods to avoid being kicked.
I doubt this is a serious thread, but just in case, this would make the queue much worse rather than better. The queue is huge because everyone is trying to get on at once, not because the server is "full" and can't let any more people in. If people got kicked out more frequently, then there would be even more people trying to log in all at once.
30 minutes is a great medium amount of time that keeps the servers from actually filling up with people who are truly not playing while also keeping people who are just grabbing something to eat or going to the bathroom from clogging up the queue itself.
They should just add a report player function like they have for rtm sellers for those using mythods to bypass the auto afk logout. There accounts should be permanently banned.
They need a 3 minute kick from this forum that I would support.
Don't forget about being in cutscenes. Endwalker has some that run from 5-15mins(on auto-convo). Imagine being in one and then you get booped cuz there was no input from you after 3mins.
Desperation really makes for crazy ideas.
How about we don't lmao
SE needs to address the elephant in the room and implement a program that verifies files and executables that might be affecting the game. That way you tackle in one fell swoop: bots, mod users, assist tool users (like ACT).
Any other fix other than that is a band aid fix that will get infected and start bleeding again next expansion.
Unless they find a way to make it so XIV itself can detect when unverified programs are attempting to interface with it without needing to utilize intrusive external software, that's sadly not going to happen.
They've already taken a hard stance on not using any kind of programs that scan the client's PC for unauthorized apps.
They can borrow servers from Dying MMO's xD.
Are you nuts? LMAO No way, sure maybe 30 mins is too long but 3 minutes is EXTREMELY unrealistic. We all hate the long queues, but yikes.
15-19min sounds reasonable. but 3 min is too short
200% sure this is a bait post. No one could possibly be that oblivious as to why three minutes would be absurd.
File verification yes, snooping around the files on someone's computer absolutely not. We don't need any more mustache twirling, wannabe technocrats in the world.
Wonder how long until they just start automatically kicking everyone from the server at certain times of day again. Seems to be the only way to stop the AFK-evaders for a couple of minutes.
Definitely no. 3 mins is too short. Around 15-30 mins is more reasonable.
Imagine if I'm playing on NA. I would try playing alt in Japan Elemental DC on peak hours. Just like what i did on WoW days. Toons on Oceanic and NA servers. Expecting bad connection on Frostmourne? Play on Stormrage.
AFK players are seriously not this MMO's problem and has not been for almost a year. We are seriously lacking a sufficient amount of servers to cover an almost doubling of this MMO's population. It is going to get SIGNIFICANTLY worse in 6.1 with the release of on the box features that are pretty damn major for Endwalker.
Among other problematic things, ACT has sound notifications for when skills come off cooldown which completely babyfies the complexity of rotations and it's something console players don't have access to, thus being an unfair advantage.
And of course people performing illegal activities wouldn't enjoy being busted and having their illegal stuff taken away/punished.
