No amount of hate in the forums will make them stop. Not as long as we are dealing with these queues day after day.
(I dont do it btw)
The system is 30 minutes. That's what I go by. Meaning if I have to make coffee, and plan on standing next to the machine until it finishes, I'm not logging out. :P
is SE aware of the bot being used en masse by people? the one that allows their character to move without the person physically having to do so? I know a handful of players using it, and tbh, at this point, it needs to be addressed.
We really don't need people being accused of being AFK and booted by a "Better AFK" System. It's fine how it is now, the problem is on the server end and that is what needs to be addressed. If people want to AFK for less than 30 minutes, let them, that's the system. I'm not logging out if I'm only going to make Coffee or something.
I think most people do log off when they go to sleep.
That's why there is only a soft queue at 4AM EST. Because everyone who was on at 8PM causing the server to be full have logged out to sleep.
The problem is that there isn't a "the bot" for this. Anyone with a gaming keyboard, gaming mouse, or one of the fancier controllers can do it. It's built in to pretty much every gaming input for keyboard and mouse and somewhat for controllers too. Even if SE had anticheat, it wouldn't be able to detect if your keyboard is internally programmed to press a button sometime.
I was thinking the exact same thing but not the same concept. Some are using clickers too. Set it to click your mouse button before the 15 or 20 minutes is up which resets the logout timer. It seems it would be easily detected when it's clicks exactly at the same time each time vs someone who's actually clicking at random times to progress the story.
There are 100s of ways to abuse the system.
Its 2 lines of code to press the space bar repeatedly.
Just be glad it's the rare few doing it.
Literally this. I use an N52 Nostromo for playing this game. Perfectly within TOS to do so. However it also has macro abilities which I don't use in FFXIV. I use it because its a one handed wired keyboard that contours my hand and never drops the signal like the wireless POS I use for normal operations.
Build a better bot trap, and they'll just build a better bot.
That's the major problem with trying to chase down exploits like this, in the end all you really do is inconvenience the actual players more than the botters.
There are two types of queues:
The soft queue is to prevent the lobby server from crashing the game server by allowing too many people to log in at once. When your queue is under 100 and you get in after a minute, that's the soft queue.
The hard queue is when the world server is full, and you have to wait for space to clear out. Either people logging off, or disconnecting, or traveling to duties. When the queue is in the hundreds or thousands and isn't moving, this is the hard queue.
4AM Eastern Time is when everyone has logged off to sleep, because that's 1AM Pacific time and 2 AM mountain time and 3 AM central time. EU and JP data centers obviously are different since the time zones are more concentrated than the NA, but by 4AM EST, the queue on the NA data centers is gone.
Just have the game give you a popup asking you for your password or something if you haven't changed area in X number of hours and if they can't do so in time, kick them.
As much as I would find it annoying SE should probably put in some form of captcha system or a variant of it into the game during times of high player load so that players can't abuse afk work arounds.
People do log off to sleep. I'm in Australia, and I had a queue of 8 last night. Eight.
Which would also be easy to beat.
Just find a zone line, make an automated macro to hold down 'S' for x seconds to backpedal across said zone line once every ~20mins. No matter how intricate you make these checks, this:
is always the reality. People will find out better ways to circumvent them, until the anti-afk measures hinder innocent players far more than they do any good in removing circumventers.
The goal isn't to make an unbeatable check, it's to find the line of where people will lose motivation to beat it. Will there still be people who zone hop back and forth overnight? Absolutely. You know who this might stop, though? Housing bots, who spend hours upon hours camping every plaque that goes up (and are notoriously easy to fool if you buy a house and set a retainer up in front of the plaque), and town afk dancers and posers who don't seem to ever level past whatever point it is they need to be to wear their glam and just idle all day every day for days at a time even during the queue crisis.
