Will classes still exist in 2.0?

Just a question I've had, and haven't seen much in 2.0 notes myself on it. I could have missed a direct answer for this, and for that I apologize for this thread if so.

I personally question, although many dont agree, that classes such as gladiator, marauder, lancer, ect will still exist at 2.0. I believe they might just be replaced with the new jobs. For example there is no longer a gladiator, only paladin.

My reason for thinking such is a likely out come stems from three reasons.

1) 2.0 seems to be set after a great event that unfolds and more or less shapes the world in many ways. We are currently experiencing the older ways before this event. So for example, we are seeing now how our new classes were before the new game sets in. Paladin originated from Gladiator for example...and how has a history of evolution.

2) The reason I even stretched that theory above out to fit was because from what I've seen, many players want FF names...like white mage and black mage. This although some disagree...is something I've seen since before beta and continue to see now. To me replacing the classes with these jobs wouldnt be at all surprising, for it seems the demand more or less requests it happens.

3) It seems so far with very rare exception, classes are now useless compared to their job counterparts. Yes "jobs" help the classes fit into roles, but its not like a gladiator can or will ever DD in a party to begin with. You can argue solo'ing and that is true, but theres no endgame in which you can solo...and with easily becoming 50 in a week...thats the most important part of the game thus far.

Keep in mind this is not my hopes for the game. I'm not saying I hope classes are replaced by their new jobs or that I don't hope it happens...I'm just suggesting what I personally think might happen when 2.0 is released or some time after.

Yes. Jesus. Classes aren't going anywhere. Jobs and classes are going to be further differentiated as more abilities, equipment, etc. are added well into 2.0.

Want an elaborate reason as to why? Too bad, I ain't got one, and if I had one I still wouldn't need to give it out. The fact is that if classes were going the way of the dodo, then they would have been offed months ago by Matsui and the rest of the battle design team. He's quick to get rid of things that don't suit the overall vision of the game like active combat, so it's not like he's shown arbitrary preference for them.

Sorry for the tone, I'm just still feeling vitriolic over the announcement of an Elder Scrolls MMO.

I think we'll see more uses for classes when pvp is released.

That is true, I can see the use for PVP with multiple skills cross class. However that being said, is PvP enough reason to keep both classes and jobs? I'm a huge PvP fan dont get me wrong, I just cant see the developers justifying that or the community allowing such.

also.... ~_~ Yoshi already have planned for release of new classes after 2.0 comes out.

I didn't see all the class threads when I made this I promise <.<...when I went back to general...lol. Although its still a different topic in a way. I want to know if they'll exist, period...not peoples opinion if they should or not, or at least if others believe its likely it could or could not happen.

Also I remember him mentioning new classes. However what I dont recall is him mentioning new jobs for those said classes. If jobs replace classes, then it doesnt prove anything about the old classes remaining as they are or being replaced. Again I havent seen anything to suggest the old classes are staying and the jobs for them. All I see anymore is about the jobs...and new classes (without mentioning jobs).

I don't see why people have so much problems with classes. Classes keep dumb things like "PLD using a staff instead of sword & shield" from happening, and if Fencer => Red Mage becomes reality, my favorite job is safe from that too.

Needing work and needing removed are slightly different concepts. I could agree with one, but certainly not the other.

Totally off-topic, but while I don't actively wish for games to flat out fail, I can't help but think that making an actual MMO out of a game whose sole strength was being a single-player game with an MMO scale would take away greatly from what makes it so awesome to people. Not me though. I'm not a huge fan of western games anyway.

I don't think they are starting to bring class only equipment if they are planning to remove the classes in 6 month.
Also, not every class has a job. Remove all classes and you would only have DoW and DoM.

It's too early and I'm too hungover for this /facepalm

That is true, so far, unfortunately. Maybe they'll realize, hopefully sooner than later, that it's not the best idea.
That said, there is half a year left to grow the balls. you never know!

Classes are fine, what needs to be worked on is the Armory system itself. Until that's fixed, there's not going to be a huge variety of weapons choices. Hammers/2h swords/etc.

It feels as though that will be limited due to the system.

Keep classes, because starting as a Paladin sounds terrible. They could probably change the names instead.

I agree that starting as a PLD does sound terrible, but that because in the current system you aren't supposed to.

Plus I don't see what removing classes has to do with the armoury system and equipping weapons, I like the limitations of the armoury system but think classes serve very little purpose.

SE will keep classes around because in XI there were jobs that were good at soloing and some that weren't, there were jobs thats sucked in parties and others that shinded in the lime light. You guys know which ones im talking about! many jobs were excluded from the games content, some jobs more then others but the main thing is they were frowned upon becasue they could only work in parties or solo or whatever,etc. this time around in XIV SE wants to avoid that problem by having classes that a more flexible and are capable of doing more roles, typically low man/soloing and jobs being the "specific man" for the job aimed for more endgame/full parties.
