Yeah that is incredibly annoying :(
The only thing you can do is keep an eye on the https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/worldstatus/ page and wake up really early in the middle of the night to create your character. It's a real PITA but it's the only solution and you only have to do it once :)
Well the only solution other than waiting for a few weeks
Imagine buying a game to relieve yourself from stress, only for the game devs and company to screw up so bad that you have to set up sleeping shifts and run calculations on the optimal time window in which you will be able to play the gaame.
Imagine
There really should be some forcing mechanism to allow a subscribed new account to make at least one character. Understand the concern for free trial bots, but if the account is paid for then you HAVE to let them create one character.
Oh no! Almost like it is like every MMO launch/expansion launch in history! Who would ever have guessed the servers would be full on the first weekend the game is out?!
The weekend of early access isn't really the time for complete newbies to be joining the game, servers are packed and character creation is limited.
Imagine having those devs explaining in detail why they couldn't do more about this during a global pandemic, superconductor shortages and other supply chain issues and then still acting like the world is just fine and normal and none of those things are happening and then throwing a tantrum over it.
Imagine
I feel that creation should, at the very least, still be available. Can't do much about the server queues at the moment, but at least allowing players to have a character to try to log in with is better than having no character at all. I understand what they are trying to accomplish with that but at this point it really doesn't accomplish much. lol
really late at night early morning the queues drop drastically so it might be possible to make a character at that time. If You are a North AMerican player I might suggest around 5-6 AM on Zalera. My queues were VERY low at that time this morning.
If that is not your data center she could at least start playing there and then world transfer later when things settle down post launch.
It is a horrible situation to be in. I totally understand her upset.
As a person who has been on balmung since the launch of the game... this your first time? :P
To be fair, this is the worst I've seen of any launch they've had in the early access mode. Technically Stormblood was rough because of the queue system being horrible at the time, but this is rough because the game ate a good percentage of the WoW community, plus we got all the other people returning from hiatus like the savage players.
I NEVER had this problem playing WOW !
The new player experience is just kind of.... :/
I was really excited to interact with more players with the release of Endwalker, but it's been 4 hours and I can't even log in. I've played other MMOs and I've fully aware that launch days come with crazy volumes, but I've never experienced such a system where you can lose your queue place over and over again for hours on end in a massive queue full of sometimes over 9,000 people waiting. So now you have players that will connect into a world and find ways to remain afk all night so that they don't have to suffer the login queue again... which only stuffs the server full of even more players. Is the best answer SE & the gang can come up for this disaster really 'just wait on it'?:(
Are you people insane?
SE shouldn’t let people pay for a subscription if it’s impossible for those players to CREATE THEIR FIRST CHARACTER.
Been playing since 2010
This is the worst yet for login
Contact support and request subscription time refund. They are usually friendly and understanding. Now in FFXI, they didn’t care about anything or anyone but themselves. Yoshi cares more about the community and gets involved with us than any other mmo lead. New World was a bomb because they don’t care and keep breaking the game worse everyday. FFXIV will have your back but be polite if you want a good response.
PS- ignore the trolls who are only on forum to harass while waiting in queue.
then people should not be able to purchase the game. His wife may have not known at all that it was early access weekend. Now she has a game she cant even make a character on. She has spent money and got nothing for it, which is unacceptable. There should be servers at for new players up to the latest expansion. Once they hit max they can move over or some option like that. You should not be allowed to sell a product you cannot even use!!!!!
(Made an account just to blast my opinion, so, hi :^) )
I think their intention was great, but it was a lot nicer than how it sounded;
Realistically, with the amount of hardcore players that get on during things like early access, along with the damned bots at the Capitals, it's realistically nigh-impossible to get in during a full day. That isn't to say that they should restrict character creation (although they're adding game time for all players due to queue errors and restrictions), but the main problem is that the majority of vocal complaints are about queue times and login errors, so SE is doing quite literally everything possible, regardless of if it affects new players or not. Generally, the community is very inclusive, but with the queues as tight as they are already, it's often hard to pick someone else over yourself; so people stay logged on, and the vicious cycle ever continues. Once again, realistically, I don't think this is malicious, and is generally intended to be, well, fair for players.
Okay, that's the end of my dumb internet rant, have a great day everyone. :^)
If new players cant create their first character, they need to stop selling copies of the game. Like immediately. Imagine buying the game for the first time and not being able to create your first character? No reasonable customer would ever understand that. It leaves a terrible first impression, which is a shame considering how amazing this game is.
Now us? With the queue times? thats completely different. We play the game, we were warned. I think most players going into this expected atleast some difficulties with launch.
