Can Square stop housing demo for a bit due to Canada's flooding?

In case Square-Enix devs (or others) aren't aware, parts of British Columbia at the moment are in a State of Emergency due to severe flooding, putting some entire towns underwater and having numerous areas completely cut off from each other due to washed out highways.

I know several people personally who play from the province, and I'm sure there's hundreds of others who do as well, and it would be great if Square could put a housing demo stop up while things get back under control. Just one less thing people in a disastrous situation have to worry about. Hope this can get some traction and seen!

Seconded, especially this close to Endwalker there's no harm in putting a delay on the timer until launch.

Registered for the forums just to updoot and comment on this. A lot of people just lost their homes up in Canada, it would be a really nice gesture if they didn't have to worry about in game stuff too while they're trying to figure out how to land on their feet.

I agree, pausing the demo would be appropriate.
It's a small way to show compassion and understanding to people in crisis.

While I'm sympathetic to the situation and hope nothing but well wishes to anyone in affected areas, however Square Enix and the development team would have to stop the timer all the time since there is always something going on around the world.

I have to agree with Sotaris.
If Square paused things for a national disaster, they'll never get much pushed out because there's always a disaster going on somewhere.

Y'all are posting in the forum, and that's nice and everything... but has anyone ASKED the developers (or whoever) about pausing any housing demo? All we can do on the forum is agree, pat each other on the back, and go "harrumph!"

Umm, a forum hosted and monitored by Square Enix. Is this not one of the ways to communicate with the company? Did you expect people to call them up or something?

The way he seems, youd actually get ahold of it. He'd sit down and listen, and profusely apologize choking back tears for the blemished stain on his game and do everything he can to fix it.

"Yoshida-san" fanboys are this deluded.

On topic, they've stopped the housing demolition timers for floods in the U.S. and natural disasters in Japan before, so it's only fair to do it for Canada too if the damage is widespread enough.

Those instances turned out badly. Hopefully they learned from them and wont repeat the same mistake on pausing the timer.

I think they might refer to the pause was pretty long last time and doesn't help the housing availablity since no demo happen.
When they pause they can't pause for just one region, but everyone getting it.

That actually works to SEs favour.

Sure, it may suck for the house-hunters. But if you want to try and get a house from someone that lost it as a result of problems out of their control, you're kind of distasteful. While disasters / outbreaks don't affect *you*, it affects *someone* and we, as a species, should care and empathize.

Yes, houses are finite (~4,000 total if memory serves) and not everyone will get one. If they don't use the house, then they don't need to keep it and someone who wants it can have their shot. But the Bragging is the distasteful part.

And I'd argue throwing a fit over a digital house when you're in middle of a disaster and whatnot shouldn't be your top-priority.

I'm not sure anyone would even have the ability to know why a house got demo'ed in the first place for them to brag about getting it from someone else's misfortune unless they knew the person well enough to know their RL circumstances.

For some random stranger getting a plot they had their eye on for awhile or camped? Yeah celebrate, brag and throw a party. Housing is savage.

Canada flooding have nothing to do with Europe or Japan

You missed the mark entirely.

The "Why" was not in regards to housing. But learning the "Why" in Why people have those specific opinions. Why they take those stances. If you do not learn why the people disagreeing with you are actually disagreeing with you, then it is not a discussion worth having. If neither party discuss with an open mind and intent to try and find common ground, there is no point in the discussion taking place.

I think your virtue signal is stuck on. I got the gist of what you said that I was responding to.

Also, someone saying "I don't agree with you", is a complete sentence- further discussion isn't always wanted or needed. If they're not being nasty or disrespectful, then as far as I'm concerned, no harm, no foul. Tossing in some randomness like this need to communicate is just odd. If I can't get to my home and "refresh" it within the 45 day time frame, that sucks, but those are the rules. We can't stop the wheel for every person and/or every region that is affected by weather/technical/medical issues. It's just not a possibility. The pandemic was unique in that it affected the world.

Celebrating that you get a pixel plot doesn't mean you don't have empathy for someone else who is having a rough time and no longer has said pixel plot. It doesn't mean you're distasteful. It might just mean you don't know who those pixels "belonged" to or what circumstances lead into said pixels falling into your hands, but that they did and you're excited and that's okay.
