So while browsing some reddit posts and seeing all the wonderful SCH memes, I still cry at night, something dawned on me. Shouldn't a skill that boosts speed have been given to AST and not SCH? I mean think about it, what does a SCH have to do with speed, ASTs are the ones who manipulate time and such, shouldn't they have gotten that skill. It fits more with their theme.

AST on the other hand... they've been minimizing/removing all aspects of it's time powers. Currently one of the biggest remaining examples of it's time powers is... some offhanded fluff in its job quest dialogue. -

Jokes aside, I don't know why they advertised it as a movement speed skill in the first place. It's simply SCH's (bad) version of Temperance, a raidwide 10% mitigation and in the majority of cases will be used as such. -

Yeah, after disappointingly taking a look at EW skills for Sch, they very much gave Sch the bare minimum. I can only assume devs are letting Sage enjoy the limelight for release and a future rework for Sch will show up a patch or 2 later, cause good lord Sage skills are looking very nice with some fairy overtuned potency.

Now.. I'm coming from a perspective that already is "fairy theme is whatever" lol.. So maybe I just don't "get it" (not saying it should be removed, it's just not a theme I'm visually interested in). Here though seeing a lot of the skills existing, changes made already, skills coming in the future, and this skill particularly too, I just don't feel they're very excited or always fairy like (the theme is there but seems, "here and there" and, again maybe I don't get it but visually and sometimes mechanically left for wanting, like the shields, especially excogitation can be really fun, but "moves a bit faster" and how it looks is a solid "sure I guess" out of my excitement lol).
So wanting to put my third party outside perspective in, and also make it clear that's how I'm coming from, I feel the theme of scholar (mechanically and visually) is a bit inconsistent or maybe not entirely inconsistent but maybe underutilized / "not as cool as other jobs?" Not arguing for a massive rework either, just an observation. I have used Scholar, I get how it works so I'm not that third party (have played it, not simply a byproduct of level 80 Summoner), but I don't have a horse in the race either (it's not 'my job'). Doesn't cause me stress (the first world type lol), but the general "?... okay..." did catch my attention. Particularly over time, like an expansion ago I thought I needed to be quite smart to play the job, now it's less wild, and still I feel the theme and visuals don't wake me up in the morning lol (again, maybe that's simply becausae it's not my thing.. I'm not sure, but I do read a lot this general sense of slippage on mechanics that were enjoyed).
Some random thoughts. The trickery pesky pixie vibe might be fun to hit on, like creates a fairy circle in a decent large area, applying fairy dust to all players in the area, skill changes- the first target you cast upon will cause you and your fairy to teleport to them. Your fairy is attached to this person and on each action they take a shield is added that the fairy and that target player shares, if the fairy shield runs out for the purpose of AOE mechanics only then you'll take damage as if your location was theirs (single target mechanics, raid wide, etc, still applies to you). Now for the remaining duration and charges you can teleport to other players marked by the fairy (fae) dust, shielding them, and NOT taking cone/splash like damage (because your aoe marker is split with the fairy, this means you can teleport to the tank and not worry about being cleaved in the face). Something like three charges (not counting the fairy marking mechanic), 10 or 15 seconds (again all single target mechanics, including markers, apply to you yourself, and you can cancel the whole thing by casting your fairy summon which will cause the fairy to instantly appear by you).
You could take the current movement skill and add the above basic concept just as well though, like whoever you've hit with the fae dust (that now moves faster) you can also then recast the skill on that target to teleport to them.
Because, it seems to me, Scholar players had liked being a bit offensive and movement aggressive, I'd also consider making some positional bias spells. Like art of war has the radius increased a little bit, but the potency nerfed a little, then another circle (smaller, concentric) is added which does additional damage- this means scholar can bias some of their damage and perhaps think a bit further ahead on who they ground pound. Similar concept might apply to a healing spell or two (though this would be based on who was hit first based on distance, rather than having to stomp on their head- to help making positioning more practical). Though of course a balance picked such that if you messed up your placement it's not ruined, it's just not most optimal (with the fae gate skill you could also do your bias movement next to tanks even).
Could be a new mechanic to attach your fairy to a target in general, some skill that causes them to stick to that target (enemy or ally) increasing their cast radius / range while also applying new effects. One maybe being you can teleport to the fairy (almost akin to a mobile leyline ability). If the target is an enemy when you use energy drain your fairy will cause your dots on the target to increase in duration (regardless of energy drain target), if you attack attached enemy with a single target (not energy drain spell, broil or something) the fairy will glow purple and then stomp their little foot on the enemy head causing minor aoe damage and the dot to bane towards one or two nearby targets at same duration, the durations can stack (to add more time, though bias will exist to acquire new targets first). For allies maybe that target specifically gains movement speed after each heal spell you cast, enemies the allied target attacks gain minor splash damage on targets with your dot, damage you deal regenerates the potency on your shields slightly for the target (although I can imagine this also being a cool spell for sage lol, some sort of AoE dome and suddenly shield durations are increased and you regenerate them a bit). Some mechanic, perhaps simply a duration, that has you change targets- perhaps some second duration + an immunity to the player or enemy, such that you will go like "tank, out in the wild, enemy, out in the wild, black mage, out in the wild, tank, etc, etc". Also might be an opportunity to bring back the offensive vs defensive fairy appearance (which maybe like summoner you can also manually change).
Since White Mage's holy wings were brought up, I certainly think a fairy mode could be cool. With maybe a summoner like scale option for those who want to be a fat fairy lol. By default it gives you fairy wings and makes you smaller / floaty. Increased movement speed, increased leeway on slide casting, reduced damage while moving, actions have a chance to grant a buff that can be used in place of aether stacks to cast free energy drains. Closest two nearby targets are focused by you as if you had attached them with your fairy, could perhaps combine this concept with dissipation (such the fairy goes away but the fairy vibe stays).
Just some thoughts, please bring mountains of salt given this is coming from a non-strongly invested view lol. I always get the impression scholar players liked the more aggressive nature of early on while also skills that where a bit 'extra' (as in white mage just slapped stuff with flex tape meanwhile scholar was trying to play lego with their heals lol). So.. making scholar 'technical' I feel would be in the alley of what I see scholars trying to play like. Although looking at Sage I wonder if it didn't take some ownership of that desire, though leaving people who were trying to get that idea out of scholar with the funny option of either switching or continuing to look at other jobs and go "this is where I'd put my cool skills If I had them!". -

I was thinking about the localization of their moves. IIRC Succor is literally called "morale boost," and stuff like that (though most were from removed spells).
