Suggestion: Leveling roulette XP change

So some friends and I came up with an interesting idea while dungeon grinding a bit tonight and thought it might be worth a post and discussion.

I think most can agree that grinding the same dungeon over and over untill you hit your next highest level dungeon can be a bit bland. Personally I think getting a bit of variety in the dungeons you run can make the process a bit better, but who\\\\'s going to do that after they already recieve their roulette bonuses for the day? This is where the idea comes in.

What if leveling roulette always rewarded a set percentage of a job level no matter what dungeon you get? This would be set at a compairable amount of xp as running your highest available dungeon. This not only solves the problem above, but also keeps more people in leveling roulette past getting their XP bonus for the day.

The reason I only mention this for leveling roulette is although it would be cool to have this for every dungeon, that would cause people to then only spam the quickest dungeons. If this only applies to leveling roulette, this problem wouldn\\\\'t exist. You could however apply this idea to some of the other roulettes maybe, but it wouldn\\\\'t really work for all... Like normal raid roulette for example or trials, which are quite a bit faster than dungeons.... But It could work for 50/60/70 or even alliance raid roulette.

I think this would be a cool change to see come to ff14. Let me know what you all think!

Pretty sure it already does that, not in a straightforward way but in a workaround.

Lets imagine you are lv 79 and get thrown into Sastasha, you will get virtually no exp on mobs but a huge pile of exp as bonus.
Now lets shift to you getting Mount Gulg, you will get good exp per mob but a very small bonus.

There seems to be a % the game wants to hit, at lower lv it seems to want to give you a full level but later on it reduces to about (i think) half.

The 50/60/70 roulette is virtually only for stones, the mobs give close to no exp because the content initially gave no exp at all, since they also doubled down on giving it virtually no exp bonus. The use of it is very limited unless you need those stones specifically.

But yes there is a boost depending on how far you are away from the initial dungeon.

For trials/raids ... i think its a set % but i never really cared to look into it, i also think theres no bonus for getting something your a lot higher lv then but i could be wrong

My idea would make it so that running leveling roulette after getting your first time bonus would always equal out to the same amount of xp as running your highest available dungeon. In it's current state that is not the case. Doing lower level dungeons awards far less XP.

The adjustment you are thinking of may be the Amory bonus, which exists no matter which dungeon you are in based off of which job you have at the highest level. But even with this it's much more efficient to run the highest level dungeon. This idea would make queuing for leveling roulette past the first time bonus equally as efficient

I'd be all for dungeons, regardless of level relative to the player, giving a set % of a level per run, ie, 20% of the current job level, so it would take 5 runs to go to the next one if you started at zero progress for that level. Add the once-daily roulette bonus to it and we'd have a recipe for greatness. I would very happily spam roulettes all day long even after getting the daily reward if this were the case.

I don't expect that this feature would cause current-content dungeons to die as people will still need/want the gear from it for progression and/or glamours. Hell, it might even make spamming a single dungeon easier. Who knows?

They're not going to do it. Make the current roulette first of the day bonuses a standard bonus and players will tunnel-vision whichever one is seen as most efficient instead of joining the other roulettes.

The first of the day bonus for roulettes is designed so players get a certain percentage of a level between bonus and the standard XP for duty completion (the percentage amount varies depending on which roulette you're doing). Subsequent runs of the roulette on the same day only result in getting the standard XP for duty completion.

You're effectively asking for the bonus to be awarded every time leveling roulette is run. If players determine that spamming leveling roulette is more efficient for getting XP than doing the other roulettes for their first time bonuses, they'll start ignoring those other roulettes.

If dungeons are getting bland to you, it's because you're not intended to dungeon spam to level. You're intended to do other content as well.

For all that FATEs have a bad rep. they're actually about par for the amount of XP you'd get in an hour compared to doing dungeons outside of roulette (assuming you're picking FATEs and dungeons intended for your job's current level).

HW/SB/ShB hunt bills and beast tribe quests (ignore ARR, the XP rewards are bad) also scale XP to your job level as long as your job is within the level range of the associated expansion (ie doing HW hunts and beast tribes will see XP scaling cap at the amount for level 60 if you're doing them at 61). Those add up to a nice chunk of XP for a relatively small daily time investment.

There's also PotD for leveling to 60, HoH for 61-70 and Bozja for 71-80.

Don't forget you will also earn bonus XP and gil for challenge log completion doing a variety of content.

If you want to stick to just one form of content for leveling, it's naturally going to feel bland after a while. Try mixing things up.

I don't think the OP is referring to the initial daily bonus though. If you run leveling roulette AFTER the daily bonus, you'll get bonus XP on lower level stuff to compensate for the difference so it's not a complete waste of time. If I'm understanding the OP correctly, they're saying that the XP you get from running the closest dungeon to your level should be the XP you get if you get chucked into a lower level one as well. Make it the same value. The idea being the roulette would be viable for variety even after the daily bonus.

And honestly, I think it's not a terrible idea.

Dungeons at a higher level award roughly 1/3-1/4th of a level, if you queue for them outside of the roulette. i.e running Sirensong Sea (at level) would award me 1/3rd-1/4th of my EXP bar. I believe that OP wishes for, outside of the daily bonus, dungeons to always award that 1/3rd-1/4th EXP regardless of if you get Sastasha or Sirensong Sea, in a duty roulette.

This way, if you wish to run the roulette ad nauseam, the first bonus is applied (which I think is a bit under half your EXP bar) and subsequent runs of the leveling roulette will always award that 1/3rd-1/4th EXP.

Sort of yes, I don't know if 1/3- 1/4 of a level is accurate though. Usually your highest available dungeon grants about 1/6 of your XP bar ish iirc.

But reguardless of the amount , you seem to get the idea. Every dungeon run via leveling roulette would provide that same percentage.

I’m currently leveling through my classes in preparation for EW. As of now, every dungeon has been giving me about 1/3-1/4th a bar. I can’t remember if this changes with 60-80 as I’ve been stuck at lower levels ahah.
