yup this is terrible
by the way I have bought this game like 3 times
once when I lived in Japan, once when I moved back overseas and another time for Mac

You can play on any server no matter where your account is from, the problematic part is that expansions and game time is locked to that region as well.

I'm not quite clear on what you're saying here. Do you mean that if I play on a JP server, the expansions I buy are region locked to Japan or that the ones I get are region locked to NA? I've been playing on a JP server since I started in 2014 and have never had issues with my NA-purchased software. I was even able to play XIV on my laptop when I last visited. If something's changed since SB, I'd appreciate knowing.

Maybe this'll finally be the impetus for change.

I'm not surprised. There's probably a lot of people who were willing to try out the game but who gave up due to the awkward account creation process. I really hope we see a complete overhaul of this site in general at some point in the immediate future.

I hope one day we could migrant our Account, I have JP base game, JP account. Then I move to Europe few years back, and I have to continue paying my sub in Yen, and bought JP version expansion pack

Ah, ok, that makes sense. I'd hate to have to deal with fluctuating conversion rates just to pay a subscription!

Sounds like he has his account set to North America and then purchased a Japanese copy. This is not a mogstation issue its a region lock issue. I bought US gametime before too I couldnt use on my EU locked account. They should allow account region transfers. If you move anywhere across the globe you are stuck having to buy gametime overseas or make a brand new account.

Would love to have them revamp it even if it was like a 6. or 6.1 things while I didn't have issues I know it's the pretty terrible site needs to be much smoother if Activision does one thing correct there store is easy maybe something like that?

Why do they make it such a PITA to give them money? You'd think they're a corporation, intent on making cash, but you have to jump through hoops to buy stuff from them.
I bet there's a large number of lost customers who wanted to subscribe, but gave up after trying to figure out the crazy setup SE Shop/Mogstation.

Whoever is in charge there needs a stern talking to.

I couldn't even do that because I don't have US banking details.

Just about every other company with a game on the market makes it easy to purchase said game and things within. SE would only benefit from making the process a lot less complicated. Might seem like a stretch, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were losing some potential customers because of this issue. Probably not many, but there's probably a few here and there.

It's a paradox I think - spend less money to upgrade your websites and modernize/simplify them, and yet put people off from paying you at the same time. Somewhat funny, no offence meant.

I wanted to look into perhaps changing my subscription a while back, I vaguely remembered several options when I made my account. I couldn’t find it, and after lots of clicking around I gave up. I was a bit surprised something seemingly so simple turned out to be quite complex :D

It's both horrible and hilarious that even the father of the series gets tripped up by this.

As frustrating as Mogstation can be, I have to 100% agree here. PlayOnline is frustrating because I'm always led to believe I used a different password to log in than my account actually uses so I have to keep resetting any time I want to give FFXI a try.

If you buy the game in Japan you won't be able to buy NA region Expansion and game time keys, idk about subs with Credit card.

It's really not hard at all to get an account properly set up, if you read.

Am I saying that the FF series creator didn't read? Yep. Even famous or revered people can be wrong.

Mr. Sakaguchi should have read the details on how to properly create an account in the region in which he wanted to play.

Sorry, sir. I did it without issue. You should be able to do it. Folks that complain about account creation issues have not read the instructions properly.

1. Read the instructions for account creation.
2. If you desire weird regional play ("I am in Zimbabwe, and want to play with my Icelandic friends," or similar,) then read the information on regions thoroughly.
3. Purchase the proper software via the proper portal for the gameplay experience you want
4. ???

PlayOnline is far worse because you have to setup a Square Enix store account to buy the full game (trial codes have run out so no free trials), then setup a mog station account to setup a playonline account to setup a member profile to setup a handle to get to character selection and then you have to buy a "content id" so you can make a character. Most of these have their own unique passwords.

Mog station was designed by a sadist. Play online came from the seven hells to punish people for eternity.

I've said before that saying the Mog Station is better than PlayOnline is like saying that it's better to get a knife stabbed through your hand than in your eye. While absolutely true, I'd still prefer not to be stabbed anywhere if given the choice...
