My previous stint in the game, during a lull in WoW in late BFA time (so still during shadowbringers), I was blessed with the "road to 70," which I used to get every crafting and gathering job from 1-70 once my at the time main job had progressed as far as the story was at the time.
The firmament was invaluable for the home stretch, but I think I kinda screwed myself by basically dropping all other forms of progression (mostly gear) that weren't involved with getting me *TO* 70.
But now that I'm fixing to likely become a FFXIV lifer, I'm kind of at a loss at how to pick up for the 70-80 game.
For starters, having leaned heavily on poetics in my DoW/M "joboholism," my first question is whether there is a poetics-like system to outfit my 70 DoH/L jobs with the same ease.
If I'm being honest, I'm really only interested in maintaining cheap, roaming repairs, so I'm not really interested in engaging with like... time gated materials to "make a thing to make a thing" to craft my gear if I can avoid it. Is there not a currency system I can chase while getting XP?
Beyond that, what are the reliable sources of XP in this level range? Should I just grab a pickaxe and hit rocks to burn rest XP? Is the firmament still useful?

I personally did not want to bother with scrip gear. To get white scrip gear you need to grind interim gear to step up from 70. So I just bought left side Aesthetes and crafted the rest, aesthetes gear with melds is enough to craft food/potions/neo-ishgardian gear and just chill until expansion. With server visit you can save quite a bit by server hoping to get cheapest items. -

I always used scrip gear because its insanely easy to get, you can literally get the whole set in less than an hour, and it will last the full 10 lvls from 60 to 70 then again to 80 and I am cheap as they come and do not like spending my precious precious gil on something as throwaway as crafting gear. Even at max level they are fantastic for regular crafting. You only really need melded gear if you are a master crafter/gatherer. Plus the custom deliveries will get you a large chunk of scrips each week. I use them to outfit myself at max level and outfit my gathering retainers since it puts them well over the max they need.
Ishgard is still viable but I cannot comment on it too much since I was all maxed out before that began, but if you are not going the Ishgard route you also only need to get quality to around 15-20% to get enough exp to make any quality worthwhile. Anything more is too time consuming and usually cuts into your exp per hour.
Ocean fishing is likely the fastest way to do fishing but to be fair (to be fair) fishing is the fastest thing to level in the game, even with just regular fishing, outside of maybe blue mage.
Also never under estimate grand company turn ins. Esp hq turn ins which give you twice the exp. Its once a day, the items can be bought off the market board so you don't even need to make or gather them yourself (some items are insanely cheap, others not so much), and can easily get you at least 1 lvl per hq turn in. Plus you get gc seals which you can turn into gil by selling things like Coke or Potash. Which, if you are in an fc with housing, are highly valuable for groups working on airships and submersibles so your fc leader will love you . -

Yes there is a system. It rewards scrips. You can buy sets of gear that will be perfectly fine for basic uses with it. It's based on both DoH and DoL side on collectibles.
Some other things that can help level that Micah didn't mention are Custom Deliveries (which also give you scrips), levequests, and the tradeskill beast tribes. -

I've known *of* scrips for a long time but I've never interacted with them before. Now that I have all of both disciple types at 70 it shouldn't be too hard to get the requisite two sets of gear (and tools of course) to begin cranking out stuff for the firmament... which is looking a lot more healthy since last I was there, I might add!Quote:

I've been smashing through my DoH/DoL levels to get from high 50s to 70 lately and have found Levequests and Collectible turn ins to be the best way. Custom Deliveries and GC supply quests are fantastic for daily/weekly bursts of XP, but if you want to really bash the levels out go with Leves and Collectibles. I'd suggest going through the available Leves and your Collectible list to figure out which ones require the fewest number of mats; not quantity, number, and stick with those. An example of a good Leve is Cottonseed Oil; it's a 3x turn-in that requires a very small amount of materials, so you get 3x the XP per Leve with a small investment of time.
I used Leves to get to the level required for the easy Collectible turn-ins then mass-produced them for XP and Scrips to get gear and books for future levels. This was by far the best way for me to both level and gear up at the same time as it didn't cost any Gil; just time spent gathering and mashing a mass-production macro.
Grinding out a load of raw materials on your BTN/MIN to support the Leve/Collectible push is a fantastic way to get levels on your DoL; I'm currently in the mid-upper 70s on mine by doing all my own gathering to level all my DoH and I've hardly touched ShB content except for two days' worth of GC supply quests on BTN/MIN.
Your mileage may vary; I realize I'm (possibly) one of the few who actually enjoys the mindlessness of <start Conehead voice> Gathering Mass Quantities </end voice> to avoid the MB while crafting higher quantities of easy stuff rather than traveling all over the place to get smaller quantities of more items to craft more intricate/difficult things. Food and Company Engineering Manuals help a lot here too.
Summary: do your GC dailies, Custom Delivery weeklies, easy Leves until you hit an easy Collectible tier, then mass-produce for those lovely scrips and sweet, sweet, XP. -

I never really did the Rowena scrips delivery stuff as it always felt cumbersome to me, and I could never do that well without putting in a lot of money for gear/materia (this was 3.0 era).
Personally I leveled my DoH and DoL exclusively doing custom deliveries and leves. 100 leves go a long way. I forget what guides I used but there are solid ones out there probably much more up to date than when I did it.
Of course I was never in some kinda rush to level…so depending on your timeline, might need to persue expensive ways. -

Surprised no one's mentioned it yet, but: for DoL from 70, the Qitari beast tribe in Rak'tikka, and for DoH, the Dwarf beast tribe starting in Kholusia. Should be most of a level each day, plus the other rewards for grinding them out.

I'd like to thank everyone that contributed to answering this thread! I am now well acquainted with M'Naago and Qeshi-Rae and am well on my way! I'm very pleased with how generous the core experience of the turn-in systems are, there's basically no arduous grinding so far once I got my gear all caught up through scrips that were also generously doled out!
Also, the ex WoW player in me laughed to finally find the poo quest! -

Just to give you more options, there are also beast tribes and new delivery NPCs as you get higher. I never did the Ixal so I can’t comment, but you will have Moogles in HW, Namazu in SB and 2 different ones in ShB to help break up the grind (1 for DoH and 1 for DoL).
Of course there are also additional delivery people here and there!
For me, deliveries were always the best, even after their story was done to get scrips/unlock recipes etc. -

Crafting is relatively easy to crank out levels if you focus on daily work:
1. Grand Company turn in. This is stupid easy if you have the gil to purchase the item on MB. Or attempt to craft it yourself. Either way works. Do it daily for a HUGE bump in the XP bar.
2. Custom Deliveries - These are amazing if your goal is crazy XP and LOT's of scrips. The crafting ones are simple and don't take very long. Been awhile since I cranked hard these, but I'm sure they are limited to weekly turn in's.
3. House of Splendors - This is you're bread and butter for scrips and steady XP. Grind out a crap load of items to craft up a storm. Scrips feed your crafting recipe books, your mats for high end crafting, your gear, materia purchasing, dust purchasing. You will earn so much by just doing this step that complements ALL your crafting.
4. Ishgard Restoration - Diadem is abysmal, but you can purchase ALL the mats on the MB. Either way your getting tons of XP, fill your punch card, and sell EVERYTHING on the MB. I made a mint on ishgard restoration.
5. Crystalline Mean - These are essentially the crafting "story job quests". The amount of XP they offer is RIDICULOUS. Sadly they are a ONE TIME turn in. Choose wisely as the crafting jobs are shared over 4-5 NPC's (goldsmith,amorsmith,blacksmith) all share the same NPC. I don't remember but it's every 3 levels to accept the quests? Can't remember.
6. XP bonus - I can't stress this enough, but USE YOUR MANUALS!!!! You will miss out on so much XP. Rested Bonus + engineering manuals are a must if you're trying to hit OMNIcraft.
Gathering: This imo is higher on the priority list then crafting. Gathering feeds your crafting and reduces your crafting costs greatly. OMNIgather + OMNIcrafter = print your own gil. You just sacrifice time to save Gil, but makes you more Gil in the long run.
Get your Folklore done ASAP! Once you have the tomes done your racking in the GIL as a gatherer. When brashgold came out I was making around 2,000 GIL per unit. And grabbing 24 units per node pop. Almost 50,000 for literally 1:30min of my time. (Travel+gather). Which leads me to....
Circuits.....If your SERIOUS about gathering....commit to a STAR mats circuits. I have devoted entire days to gathering just the STAR mats, and made literally millions of GIL. If you do it right and plan your GP accordingly, and decide if you want HQ vs. Normal, then you can rake it in every lap. The goal of gathering...is to ALWAYS be gathering, and you will just be making money non-stop. Crafting is more goal oriented, and requires some MB research.
Cordials/Hi-Cordials. I currently have over 3000 in my inventory. I sell them, I use them, I eat them like candy. Cordials increase the rate at how you gather exponentially. Once you get Pick Clean + Cordials + Circuits. you are trucking now. -

Stormblood and Shadowbringers leve XP is extremely good when you turn in HQ (usually 2-3 times what you would get from a collectable). I recommend using up any available leve allowances before turning to other sources of XP since you don't any real interest in crafting beyond self-repair/melding. You'd be earning gil in place of scrip.

A note about the beast tribes
ARR - Ixali - DoH only
HW - Moogles - DoH only
SB - Namazu - DoH or DoL (but only one or the other so not like 3 or DoH and 3 for DoL)
ShB - Dwarves - DoH only
ShB - Qitari - DoL only
I was happy enough Namazu let us do DoL at all but then super happy when ShB finally gave us a DoL-specific tribe so we could progress both at the same time.
Also, I didn't read the entire thread to see if this was mentioned before, but you get a first-time experience bonus when you first craft an item. Sometimes I just gather a bunch of mats, turn on the option in my book to hide completed recipes, and go through just for the bonuses. Then I stick the items on the MB or desynth if they don't sell for a high price. This also helps both with the achievements (which lead to your glowy tools) and the challenge log which gives you a way to get even more passive experience.
Someone also mentioned manuals. Don't forget there are manuals for both DoH and DoL. And IIRC they changed sightseeing so it's not adventure-only now. So you could be tooling around on DoL and pick a point up for the small exp boost. -

The good news is there are some really good guides for ShB timed-node circuits that are SUPER CHILL to do since the nodes persist a lot longer than they did in the original HW and SB content. The one I use is a website, not Garlond Tools/Bells, that tells the high-end ShB Yellow and White Scrip route. I don't recall it off-hand and I'm at work so I can't look it up. Try searching for White Scrip Gathering; you'll get a good list of sites that help out. Doing the circuit for 6-8 hours got me enough scrips to completely gear me and my two DoL retainers out with 80 (me) and 70 (retainers) gear.Quote:

For one, the spawn timer cycles every hour, so every material is available for a 5-10 minute window every hour (often twice every hour). Secondly, as long as you're intelligently utilizing your scrips to upgrade your gear to the current expansion's level, you should be able to get quite a few collectables out of every node (sometimes as many as 5+). I was able to get my botany and mining from 70 to 80 in a few hours simply by having a clock from https://www.ffxiv-gathering.com/ open in one window, marking the nodes with the collectables, cycling from node to node as they spawned until my inventory filled up, at which point I popped into Eulmore to turn in the collectables and resume. There wasn't even much dead time. There were enough important nodes to keep me constantly busy.Quote:
