I miss my ATB craft
And did the req for HQ is still 1k quality?
300 quality gets you 1% HQ chance, 500 quality is around 7% chance, and the hq rate rises dramatically past that point, with 1000 quality being guaranteed HQ.
I think you might be the only one who misses the crafting timer. That was horrible.
But... crafting isn't battle.
That timer was just a bad idea.
Anyway, check this out about HQing: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...all-the-things
-Start of battle. YOu start with 100% HP (durability). Enemy at 0% Progress
-You hit the enemy with standard synthesis. You lost 10 HP. You gain 20% Progress
-You use God Hand. Invicibility for 3 turns
-You use Perfection + Carefull Synthesis to deliver the killing blow
-Victory fanfare
I'm dissapointed by the removal of the timer, I was hoping that by removing it perhaps your synth wouldn't be cancelled if you d/ced, but i've had 2 dcs since and lost my synth lol. I figured maybe the synth was being lost since the timer was still going on but even without it, they'll cancel the synth when you d/c.
gathering is not battle
its a hot and cold game
How in the beloved and holy names of the Twelve does a timer on ability choice have anything whatsoever to do with Active Time Battle systems?
I've heard a lot of misguided metaphors in my day but this one definitely wins some kind of shiny metal prize.
Because crafting pre-1.22 is a battle
an ATB one
It's a passive ability
Can you perhaps explain what you mean by that rather than doubling down and restating your metaphor as fact? There's no opposing action in crafting (like there is in a battle system, or for example Parley); it's as much of a battle as hitting a hammer with a nail is a battle. Prior to 1.21 there wasn't even any interesting game-theory to run with, no trade-offs to be made, no meaningful action choice. There's nothing fun about having to input a command within X number of seconds or you turn into a pumpkin, and lots of reasons why it sucks (being called AFK, having to answer the phone, etc.)
Really dude? You're not getting the 'ATB' bar back. Crafting is not battle. It's better this way. Get over it.
I think it's more of a

Chyeah, one of those two.
I like the removal of it, i can start a craft and not feel like I've wasted x gil and x exp when i spontaneously need to wc or someone comes to door or something.
I dont see the battle metaphor thingy, cuse with the timer, it wasnt exactly like "OMG WHAT TO DO NEXT, QUICK NEED TO SELECT SKILL OMG SO MANY CHOICES, SO LITTLE TIME"
It was like hmm... standard, .. standard .... standard... skill.... standard...standard... etc, barely got below 99.9999999999999999% so it was pointless being there.
No... just no... my god no...
I found the timer pretty useless. I knew what I was going to do anyway.
It's so mush less grading now.
Now I can afk and talk while crafting, yay. The difference between pre 1.22 crafting and atb battles is in most (probably all) games with atb battle you can pause in the middle of it and go do something else.
so you only get 5 max abilities to use per synthesis?
One gauge does not ATB make.
ATB relied on the interactions/synchronizations of multiple timers. The tactics involved were a question of how frequently a character could perform an action and how much faster/slower that was compared to how frequently the enemy could.
And, usually, the default setting was for time to stand still while navigating certain sub-menus (e. g. magic).
The timer you refer to was nothing but a requirement to make a decision within a certain amount of time (and one that was needless since players usually knew what they wanted to do before the timer even started). The timer had no real effect on interactions, it didn't affect how quickly you could synthesize. Meanwhile, the item only responded directly to your actions.
If Durability slowly ticked down continuously and you had to wait for a gauge to fill between all your synthing actions (i.e. two different interacting timers), then you'd have a point. As is, no.
The new crafting system is soo much better, my first time trying it out, getting used to abils.. and I have to say its much better, the speed of success is awesome, its not so much of a waiting game with Latency..
There is no point to a synth timer.
I, too, love the changes to the crafting system. ^_^ It's now less guesswork and more of a guarantee. Put enough time and effort into the materials and skills necessary to craft your item, and you are very likely to get the HQ you want.
<3_<3 I love the crafting changes. Thanks very much Dev Team!!
Now, to go do a bit of weaving to get a coupla nice abilities I've got my eye on... ( `-`)
I quite prefer the new crafting system. I'm of the opinion that strong, clear choices are better than muddled weak ones. Of course, as far as the ATB metaphor goes, I preferred FFX's complete dumping of ATB to any of the previous systems--I never thought the ATB thing added that much to the fight, just made it annoying to scroll through spells.
No, it wasn't. An ATB battle would imply taking an action when the bar fills up....there was no bar filling up. The timer had nothing to do with anything other than to keep you focused on doing abilities before it ran out lol. I like not having it, easier to chat and browse the interwebs/watch TV (lol).
