Gunbreaker sound effects

Gunbreaker is a really fun job, and I love everything about it except one thing and it’s a big one. The sound effects. They sound…disappointing is the best word I can use. I’m wielding this cool gun-sword hybrid weapon but my abilities sound like they’re hitting enemies with a totally different weapon. There’s nothing in these sounds that sounds like a sword. The explosions are alright I guess but I think there should be a rework or something to make gunbreaker sound more sword-y. As it stands I really don’t play the job that much because sounds are a huuuuge contributed to how a job feels to play and gunbreaker while it had a fun rotation and cool visuals, the sounds leave an gaping void feeling whenever I try to enjoy it /:

Please consider revamping GNB sounds in endwalker

fun fact, this IS the revamp sound. the gnb sound effects actually sounded nice, but then SE changed it to the current later. (but i agree, it should be changed back)

The GNB effects used to sound like actual metal at the start of the expansion but then they were changed for some reason I can't remember now

The problem with the first sound was that it sounded too heavy and impactfull the issue now is that it sounds like it's made of plastic...

I vocal minority of players, allegedly in Japan, complained that the sound effects made them think it sounded like you were attacking the enemy with scissors. Problem is even if Square was going in good faith to address that, now it sounds like I'm hitting the enemy with a wiffle bat.

Was saddest for me, the original sounds are still in the game. If you watch the job unlock trailer (so I've been told) you can hear the job trainer using the original gunbreaker sounds in his introduction cutscene.

Modding is forbidden and it would never be suggested to install sound mods. Do not google them!

It wasn't even the JP. There was a thread asking for it changed on here as well. Back before it got changed there was an LLP where Yoshida addressed it and part of him didn't want to do it as it wasn't the first time the community asked for something to be changed only to make threads going "Oh my God change it back!" Or that they would have wanted a different sound.

iirc the initial complaints were that explosions for cartridge attacks sounded weak. those got beefed up...but for some reason the blade sounds got changed as well, and here we are.

Yeah I remember it a little bit here because they felt the sword didn't sound "heavy" enough, and remember reminding people that Squall wasn't the only gunblade user in the series; that it felt like they were modling things more off Lightning than Squall. But it's also fair that Yoshida and many other development staff put more weight into JP requests over global, and are often ignorant to the issues we bring up. So, it's fair to see how some people would say it was because of the minority of JP players that the sound effects were changed over global.

You're not alone. I too hope they re-readjust the sounds in 6.0 to sound more fitting to an edged weapon.

Yea they are pretty bad. Like having pillow over the origin of the sound, very muffled
