Concerns regarding 6.x PvP

At present, we have limited information about the future of PvP in 6.x. I feel as though my concerns won't be addressed or truly confirmed until the day of 6.0's patch, as they are fairly nuanced. I find these points important all the same.

To start, make sure you've seen this Lodestone thread for a collection of what we do know. So let's get down to it.



The Abolition of the Feast

We know that the possibility of Feast closing down or being removed is high, but I find it very likely that Feast will remain the only mode centered purely on the 4v4 team deathmatch format.

I agree that the public duties should be closed down to focus on the new mode, but I would highly recommend keeping Custom Matches open. I would even recommend allowing undersized parties to enter. I do not completely agree with the notion of basically deleting content. We already lost the Fold, Slaughter, and Astrologos. Please do not remove all avenues of playing the Feast.



Custom Matches in General

Please allow customs games off the hop with the new mode. These are absolutely instrumental in facilitating community-driven events and players wanting to compete at a higher level in general. It also allows people to test, learn, and help others develop as players. It's good for your community and will immediately foster a more positive environment.



Queuing in the New Mode

Square Enix has a habit of restricting you from queuing up in groups. I sincerely fear that they will implement some sort of forced solo queue into this new mode which will kill a ton of interest in it right from the start. Friends of similar goals and interests should not be kept from playing together.

The concern always seems to be toxicity coming from premades when the reality is there is a lot of toxicity that comes from the day-to-day tome farmers that start every match saying "time to lose!"

I expect contestation for this point, so rather than write an essay on it right now, I will gladly counter-point as we go.

I seriously hope that Feast gets finally removed and be replaced by normal Arena Battles (2vs2, 3vs3 and 4vs4).

But the biggest worry i have about the new PvP mode is, that i expect it to be (from what i puzzled myself together with all the interview infos) some sort of capture the flag mode for 8vs8 Players, and with that, i highly doubt that Squeenix will make any significant changes to the PvP Healermeta.

Posting on these boards is a massive waste of time mate they don't give a toss what we or even the Japanese players think and then ban us when we get annoyed about it hence why there's barely any 3.x vets that aren't banned on these boards. Go play SOLO, LAO or frankly any other game with reasonable content and decent maintenance/updates because they won't do anything with this post just like the many others before it. If you honestly think they care just remember that PvP menu was blocked out on the press tour, and that several ladders are full of wintrade/cheat/hack and they didn't ban a single person and even when they do disqualify people, they still give them the rewards, think most cheaters knowing that's the prospective punishment would take that risk any day, if I didn't have any respect for this community I probably would too. Well actually I wouldn't because cheating isn't really my thing, would rather just not bother at all. Glad to see the back of this mode tbh.

I'm aware of the situation of people being banned on these forums, SE's track record of listening to feedback, and what went down last two seasons. I've gotten more feedback and support on an accompanying Twitter post I made along with Discord DMs. If these points get people talking or at least thinking about them, then it's better than saying nothing at all.

I honestly expected this kind of reply, but not from PvPaissa staff. Surely we can't just be at the point of "why bother", can we?

the wording was maybe a tad bit stronger than necessary but i think the same opinion of giving up is shared by pretty much any player who has been here for at least a couple years. its actually kinda amazing and admirable that youre still trying to engage like this atreus

What i found truly amazing, especially during Season 18 of Feast which had the really fancy Armorset, it took me literally arround 600 Games (with a win ratio of arround 35% iirc) to reach Gold Rank as a Black Mage, then i decided to give it up completely because the queues began to slowly die on Chaos Datacenter.

Meanwhile there is literally that one dude who calls himself Wolf who has 7 alt's within the Top 100 and from what i've heard, it took most people who managed to reach diamond not even half as many tries as it took me, despite being queued with randoms (unless of course, they found another way).

I think if they were going to continue with Feast, I would be in the same boat completely. Like Suhr Zarek was saying to me in Discord though, this could be a clean slate from that. If 6.0 (though let's be real, it'll probably be 6.1 to let people focus on other content) rolls around and it's clear there's no progress forward, then I can confidently say that I will not be posting like this again.

Feast was awesome the first 4 seasons, now it is just a meme. I would totally support the decision to close it down for good/leave only a unranked 4v4 with premades allowed.

All the Rewards and titles lost their value anyway. Well maybe with the exception of a few of the very old rewards.

Talking frontlines now:

Stormblood killed the fun in PvP and the removal of premades killed the abillity to play with friends, wich in turn caused me to barely play any "pvp" at all.
I know that some people use some kind of tool to be able to queue with 8 players but i will not risk a ban for a basic feature that should be in the Game in the first place.

SE could release this new game mode with 2 options;
1. Normal - Unranked, casual game mode with similar pre-made frontline restrictions. Basic rewards, undyeable gear/weapons.
2. Ranked - Pre-made only with match making based on an MMR (match making rating) which is based off of a combination of how many wins in a row your pre-made team has got together, and each player on the team's personal rating. This way no PvP teams are required to be set in stone, and people can use party finder to find a pre-made of players at similar personal rating in order to achieve a target starting MMR for the team before they que up. Ranked rewards, mounts, dyeable gear/weapons.

This ranked option would allow players who don't have the time to no-life at the start of a season to still play in higher ranks based on their skill/win rate pushing the team MMR up to allow matches with higher ranked teams even if personal rating is low. For example if everyone on the team is at 200 personal rating, but wins 2 matches in a row, the team now starts to match up with 400 MMR rating teams. If they win 2 more matches in a row at that higher rating, then the team is matched into 1000 rating teams. And so forth until they lose and will then get matched with lower rating teams accordingly. Personal rating gains could range from +30-150 rating per win, but MMR rating gains have no cap for the sake of match making. If a team is playing perfect with 100% win rate even though all players personal rating is low, their MMR for that day should be very high to reflect this win rate, and they should be matching into high rated teams that could challenge them.

I personally think it's pretty cool how jobs are completely different in PvP and don't resemble their PvE counterparts at all :^)

Hey maybe for 6.0 they could get rid of the stupid pvp distinction for skills. I understand they took WoW's pvp talent system to a new level but that itself was an anathema to the fantasy of pvp. As it stands, it's worthless side content with no real rewards that requires you to completely relearn your job for it.

I guess that's my primary concern for 6.x

The PvP skills aren't even PvP skills by nature, theyre just a bunch of PvE skills slapped together and that's it. The Dev Team clearly hasn't learned much about designing a proper combat system for both PvE and especially PvP from the way i see it.
