This is a really weird crash that only started happening since 5.55. Sometimes when I've tried opening the gathering tab from my keyboard (by pressing the B key) the game will say "An unexpected error has occurred. Exiting FINAL FANTASY XIV 2021-05-17_12:51. I've tried reinstalling the game and it has not fixed it.

To prevent repeating previously attempted troubleshooting, what have you tried to alleviate the problem? Does this crash happen when Final Fantasy XIV is the only program running? Also, could you provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

I'm also getting the same error when pushing "B" to open the gathering log. It's happened 3 times now (but doesn't happen every time I open the log). Never seen this before 5.55

I am also getting this error, I've been gathering for skysteel miner quest in azys la and this has happened twice, though it worked fine before i started gathering
june 18 update: happened again while in the firmament, tried to open the gathering log using a gamepad cross bar button
as per EiraValkyrie's post, I selected the last skysteel item for botanist, closed the gathering log, then my next attempt to open the log causes a crash

This has happened to me 3 times tonight while going around gathering some collectibles when I go to open the gathering log to see which node spawns next. Clearly something is broken.
EDIT: The pattern I seem to be noticing, is that the Gathering Log DX crash error always happens the second time I attempt to open it after logging back in...if that helps narrow it down at all. First time it opens fine, second time...DX crash.

I've been having the same problem since 5.55.
It's very frustrating when I have to continuously log in to collect my collectables. I hope it will get addressed very soon.
This is happening to me as well, incredibly frequently since I'm currently gathering for skysteel tools. I'm gonna see if I can confirm the "crashes on second attempt at opening log" thing, even though it's incredibly frustrating to have to go through entire login process again.
Edit: From fresh login, I crashed upon checking gathering log second time. If it helps, I had it opened to skysteel tool page, with one of the two last ingredients on list selected. Gonna see if it makes any difference not having anything selected.
Edit 2: From fresh login, open gathering log. Go to one of the later collectables, like the last two in Skysteel Tool page. Close it entirely. Open it again. Game will crash, 100% of the time. Please, can more people report and confirm this.
I also get this. For me it happens when trying to mine collectables in the Shadowbringers zones and open the gathering log in any zone.
I want to reiterate the steps needed to replicate the crash, 100% of the time for any developer watching this:
1. Open Gathering Log.
2. In Gathering Log, navigate to a page displaying items collected in the Diadem.
3. Fully close the Gathering Log.
4. Reopen the Gathering Log. Crash.
This did not happen before 5.55 patch, to my knowledge.
I can confirm that I was getting this issue regardless of zone and only if I was opening the gathering logs to check spawn timers. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling as well as the other fixes mentioned by forum staff.

What I had to do to bypass the crash was to not utilize the keyboard shortcut. I had to go to the menu manually. :(

I've personally tried making sure no other applications were running, and that graphics settings were set to minimum. Of course, I haven't tried it with DirectX11 disabled, however that would defeat the point of trying to quash this bug. I have had several other people recreate this crash on different systems, some on console (though I'm not sure how their error messages look like, they didn't say). I invite you moderators and/or developers to try on your own games. I bet if you follow the steps I've laid out in my posts and video, you will encounter the same crash.
Same here, the game crashed randomly when I tried to toggle the gathering log. It's a new problem since 5.55. I haven't installed anything new on my laptop for a while, definitely not since 5.55 launched. I didn't overclock my CPU, not using any mods, all drivers up-to-date.

Got this error by opening the gathering log through clicking.
Funny enough, I am also getting a similar crash via the Gathering Menu, and I’m playing on PS4.
Is Yoshi-P aware of this? This is clearly game issue happens on all platforms!
Just confirming another person having this same issue. Seems to most often happen when selecting the collectables in the gathering log, closing the window, then reopening directly back to the collectables.
