Not looking for easy street..

Could someone please explain why there are quests that even at the "easy" level are almost impossible to win? Especially when your fighting as a NPC..I'm working on Full Steam Ahead! I will be stuck at this point in the game forever. Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking to be handed a win, but come on! Easy, for me anyways, isn't any easier than the normal level. I don't see any changes, he loses health at the same rate, which is slower than molasses in January (yes I'm that old), his attacks all hit cause the same rate of damage. I know there are players that will laugh at this, but I'm just here to have fun, relax, and escape the real world, when the game becomes more frustrating than the world I'm trying to escape, and provides no fun, it's not worth my time or money. :(

Are you getting hit by AOEs?

I don't see how this instance can gate you if you're using all your abilities and dodging the attacks.

I HATE the MSQ forced fights. If I wanted to play a Thancred, I would make one. :) I play to use my BRD or WHM period. The best part of this patch was the new housing deco....

Ah yes, the Thancred fight against Ran'jit. That has a specific strategy to win in that you need to use Thancred's abilities effectively - specifically his Hide ability. Because Ran'jit just hits far too hard, simply going in and trying to tank and spank him normally is tantamount to suicide. You basically have to quickly rush in, hit Ran'jit, run away like hell and then hide while trying your best to avoid Ran'jit's attacks (as well as being mindful of the toll it takes on Thancred), and then rinse and repeat.

Then, towards the end when the option becomes available, use Ryne's 'special' cartridge (that is on the Duty Action button) to execute an extremely powerful attack that practically one-shots Ran'jit and then completes the battle. There are some other things to remember but I can't recall them from when I did that annoying fight.

Yeah hehe, I play my Bard and white mage period. Dabbled with some others but been ages. I also do not like having to read avatar's text to see what I should be doing.

The fight even tells you when to use things. I completed it a few months ago. It’s not that hard so long as you pay attention to what they’re telling you to do.

Middle of the screen, that text that flashes for about 10 secs telling you when to use your special abilities and keeps coming up till you use your special abilities. It also remains in the chatbox after.

I dont get what youre finding so difficult about it? Its the same level of difficulty as other MSQ fights, inly now youre pressing less buttons.

I guess it has been about a month since someone complained about this one. We were probly due.

OP - Aside from using hide and firing off the gunblade(the screenshot Milkie provided), you really only need to do a couple things to win. You need to keep attacking, you need to dodge, and you need to keep your health up. Before you even start the fight, drink the potion thancred has. Look at how much it heals, and how long until you can use it again. During the fight, anytime you are down a little more health then the potion will heal take a drink(so for instance if the potion heals 35k, being 40k hurt is a fine time to drink). If it gets sticky and the potion isnt quite ready, put yourself at medium range and just run out of attacks until the potion is usable again. Medium range gives you enough room to dodge everything, but still get in close if he does his donut attack(long range paradoxically makes dodging a couple of the attacks harder if they are aimed in a bad way). Dodging his various aoes is priority number one. If you dont, the damage adds up too quickly. Your attack combo will heal and shield you, so you effectively have more hp then it looks like.

Then after

the second time you fire the gunblade, Ranjit becomes wise to your tricks. He immediately foils your next one or two invis attempts, and he steps up the attack. Meanwhile, you are suffering the after-affects of the invis trick. This plays out as you being staggered. You periodically stop moving/attacking/etc for a second while stunned. This makes it all the more important that youve been keeping your hp high, and use your potion as well as you can. After a round or two of this, you get a new invis option that still fools Ranjit, and your last cartridge ends the fight as long as you hit with it.

But again, dodging and attacking plus keeping your hp in good shape is the entirety of the fight outside of the gimmick that you claim already to know. Perfectly doable on controller or keyboard/mouse, perfectly doable on every difficulty level... there is nothing that should stop anyone from winning this fight.

hehe yeah I have enough problems just staying alive watching where I am moving. Having to read avatar crap like, "Stay close!" or "We must protect so and so", is irritating. Most times I don't see it and then there's an issue called DEATH because I do not know the skills to play this Thancred guy lol. I have always managed to get through the MSQ, I just hate forced fighting. I stopped doing most dungeons, trials, etc, long ago, not my thing and lots of other busy work in game to keep me happy.

Yes, sometimes you have to read during a fight.

I honestly don't remember it being a particularly hard instance. Kinda long, could have been shortened a bit, but I don't remember ever wiping to it.

These duties are meant to be easy enough for everyone to complete them no matter their skill or knowledge level related to the game. If you're struggling that bad, you should be asking yourself what you can do better.

All his overpowered skills tell you what they do on the tooltips when you mouseover them.

Ok, this response isnt directed at you Besame - im just using your quote to help make my point. Thancred has 5 abilities, and if you wanted you could completely ignore 3 of them and still win. Defense boost? Good to use, but dodging the avoidable attacks and keeping good healing will get you through the roomwides. Offense boost? Good to use, but just keeping up your 1, 1, 1 combo will get you to the end well before the timer runs out. Gap closer? Good to use(good as an extra oGCD attack, good to get close to continue the offensive, good for getting into range to avoid donut attack), but just staying at medium range means you will have time to get close when needed and eating one or two avoidable attacks isnt fatal you just need to avoid most of them.

I think the issue is how the text is presented more often than not. If your camera angle isn't in just the right place those dialogue bubbles are incredibly easy to miss. And if you haven't customised the chat log window it's also incredibly easy for important information to get pushed off the chat window before you've had chance to read it.

The problem most people have with these encounters and even many others like some of the job quests isn't that they are difficult at all its just a total lack of information on what the devs expect the players to do..

When players fail its usually not because the quest was hard. But because they had no knowledge of what they were meant to be doing..

Most memorable example for me was either one of the big or smn quests where your "meant" to seal a void that's way overcurrent there. So far over there its not even on your screen. And the forums were full of people saying its impossible because they kept getting overwhelmed by mobs spawning from the void they had no idea was even there.. because when your camera is focused on all the things your trying to kill and that little speech bubble that pops up over the npc is off camera so you don't see it..

Not difficult just flawed design

Nobody knows Thancred's skills until they get to that fight. He doesn't play like a gunbreaker - everyone equally has to stop and read what the attacks do before commencing the fight. Learning what they do is part of learning how to clear the fight.

It's like starting a new game entirely and having to relearn the button commands. Once upon a time you had to go through this for your main job here, too.

I am just speaking on what is difficult for me at this time and wish I could get around it somehow. I am sure you as an "elite" player would not find any difficulty. I am not the usual player but I really enjoy many aspects of this game so I will continue to make it through the MSQ as best as I can. If you enjoy dissing me Miss Katie Kitty about doing something better, I am a 72 yr old great gramma so have at it, if not, just plz allow me to vent as I struggle with becoming less able to adapt than I was 25+ yrs ago playing my first MMOs. I am just not quite ready to let them go and used to do things "better" as you have so eloquently stated I must :)

I feel your pain :) I usually just have a bit of trouble with one boss in the MSQ. I rinse and repeat until dead.

The Rajit fight was hard for me at first. And the special event fight for the regalia made me almost pull my hair out

Hehe well ty :) My game venue now mainly consists of dreading and then getting through the MSQ as it smacks me in the face, daily elite hunt trains (fun, fun!) for tomes/gear, crafting, gathering (got the purple MHS) and tribes/fishing and things like that. I love house crafting and deco and never stop sending my FC subs out for goodies (dang RNG lol). I used to live in PotD, HoH and completed all Eureka and it's counterparts. I may start the new 24s when the new season begins, we shall see. I find myself enjoying the more relaxed non-full of jerk content these days and that is BETTER for me :) Glad to see I am not the Lone Ranger lol.

i agree, even on easy mode figthing as thancrid i cant get past that msq , and have been doing it for two days . i want to move forward not have to give my pass words to someone else to do it for me . they should have after 10 tries have the npc die . so i can move on i have him down to a third of his health and then i am dead. i cant use sprint or even drink a potion . this is worse than the one msq that i had to get the three feathers down . and only could get through that with the summoner . Blm i was slaughtered . dummy them down .and i am 60 so right with you guys . and to boot my computer . is on the low end of the spectrum .

It is hard took me 2 and half days to finally kill the dude , as thancrid . serious . hey is dueable finally got it done . .

I think after like 6 or 7 tries and not being able to read the text clearly due to old age cataracts heh, I threw that bubble over all of us and that thing I protected after straining to see the blurry protect the tank text and it completed. That may of been how I succeeded. Not sure, just happy it was friggin done.

I don't like playing as not-me. I created me to play as me, I don't want to be someone else. But my issue is something that comes up quite a bit in this game, usually during the "playing as not-me" bits but not always. You're in the instance for 10-15 minutes, and it's pretty much impossible to fail. Then, there's a non-obvious mechanic that you have to get exactly right or you fail. Then it's 10-15 minutes of filler while you think about what went wrong and you try again. Googling doesn't always help because the replies to the questions are often toxic "How cud u fale on that u noob, git gud scrub."

I'm older, like some of you, so I don't have cat-like reflexes. Thankfully some of the newer quests have save-points now and they've added the lower difficulties. But lower difficulty doesn't help if you've misread the mechanic somehow.

Agreed, been there :) This is why I'd like to avoid doing the forced fighting sections and just enjoy the story hehe.
