Heyas! Sooo, I had an idea: post your weirdest glamours with the caption:
"What class am I?"

If we get enough of these, maybe we'll get an actual reason as to why we can't have unrestricted glamours.

Won't this thread be something of an argument for why not?

You have a bunch of trash glams made of pieces that are the exceptions to the class-restricted rule and then ask why everything isn't unrestricted. It's a strategy, I guess.

The problem is, the 'official' argument for why glams are restricted is something like 'so players can tell who is what class at a glance'. That argument shatters like sugar-glass before a sledgehammer when you realize these unrestricted glam pieces exist.

Especially as you can't glamour your weapon into another job's weapon and you can put on completely neutral glamours, like bikini tanks, but a tank can't wear heavy armour that DRG can.

FFXI, however, their equivalent system was not job restricted (though I think that was more down how broken XI's systems were and they probably couldn't make a restrictive system when they added it...but still, it was not an issue. My BLU looked like a COR because I like Pirates.

I have a counter-argument. If you are geared in level 70 SMN gear, I am not going to mistake you for a DRK. If you are geared in level 60 BRD gear, I am not going to mistake you for a WHM. If you're geared in level 50 ALC gear, I'm pretty sure you're not going to bust out DNC moves. It may only really matter in PvP, but then again ...

Also, I'm not so sure about the use of that word "official". That was pretty much Blizzard's excuse for limiting Transmog (can't glamour Leather gear as a mage, for example).

I think possibly a middle ground: limit restrictions only to AF sets. AF sets are pretty iconic for each job. But like, none of the pirate-y looking tricornes can be worn by mages, as an example, but I wanted a pirate theme for my mage glamour and the head pieces that come close don't look right. I can't keep a consistent Nomad's glamour between jobs or heck the new P'algthan stuff. And none of these sets add anything to job identity. And for all the mages who complain about their sets often being a robe or a variation of it'd open a bigger spectrum to them, because if in that gear's theme you see somethign you do like for another job that's not a robe, you glamour it.

While I don't think it's particularly "weird" in the sense of being absurd or outlandish, but more in the sense of being unusual for the job I main, which is White Mage. Here's the glam:

This was my race and glam for the end of Deltascape Savage. My group's morale was low, and I convinced them all to glam into Coeurl speedos and other ridiculous things till we beat it. We beat it like two raid nights later in our speedos.

HAH! My static does the same. Whenever we're having too much trouble with a fight we just get into silly glams, or go all in cowls like we're in a cult.

Except PvP is where it'd matter the least as it's literally written above your name for everyone else what your class is, rather than your actual name. If you're playing a SCH, everyone is going to see "SCHOLAR" or "SCH" above your head, weather you're in sch gear, brd gear, or naked. As a reminder you can... just be naked in pvp, great information.

O.O Is that even an argument?

Practially half of the glams provided in game are All Classes.

And even the ones that aren't... The designs more often than not dilute the notion of heavy/light armor. See YoHRa sets... Everything looks caster gear, period. Or the Law's Order sets where everything looks like tank heavy armor.

Honestly, I think if anyone still holds this argument of "knowing at glance", they are either playing a fool or just delusional, lol.

The only restriction that still makes sense is Job exclusive geear, because they are signature pieces.

Yeah, most XIV players kinda knew it was a load of chocobo dung the moment the devs spoke it, but they've essentially doubled-down, refusing to give an actual reason for it. Hence my creation of this thread.

I continue to believe that they know it's just a polite deflection and really it's because they either can't do it at all or can't selectively keep artifact glamours job-locked while allowing everything else. So instead of saying they can't, they try to suggest that you shouldn't want it anyway.

To me it's still "don't want" rather than "can't", even if this don't want is more something like "don't want right now"...

They know players care a lot for glamours, and sometimes I think some decisions are more like a carrot-on-a-stick to look forward to new things in the future, like for example, dyeable version of dungeon gear used in the next xpac. Not a long time ago, I remember that a Reddit post datamined a lot of glamours gender-unlocked with the Wedding outfits, and it turned out they are apparently releasing these unlocks drop by drop. I remember seeing picures of items like the Maid's outfit or the Thavnairian bustier available for males.

Can't, won't, aren't going to.

Whichever way it is, I feel like doing this sort of thing to "prove why restrictions aren't needed" as if you can catch them out and force them to relent is just a lot of wasted breath and keystrokes.

Which isn't a reason to not have fun defying roles within the restrictions as they stand, but I'd rather just have that thread than one with yet another attempt to convince the unconvincable.
