Belts being gone and their slots' allocation

So, I'm kinda happy for this change. I feel that belts are the least exciting piece to get due to the lack of visuals and I'm happy with their stat budget being diluted across the other items.

I'm not mistaken, they mentioned that the "free" belt armory slots are going to be redistributed through the accessories. I kinda feel that's a little... misplaced? We don't usually end with more accessories than other items, in general, because a lot of things are shared between jobs in the same group... And accessories even between different armor groups.

However, the weapons... I've always struggled with armory space there, because you literally have to roll with at least one weapon per job you have. It's 29 if you have every job unlocked, that's almost all of the capacity.

In short, I feel that the spare slots from the belts being cut would be so much more useful if allocated to the Weapons section. Any thoughts?

Edit: confirmed that some of the slots are going to weapons. I'd rather have - all - of them there, but hey, at least better than nothing! :)

I can't find it right now, but I believe it was stated that some of the slots are going to weapons, some are going to rings, and a few are being held in reserve for later use.

The slots are going to weapons and rings (not all accessories, just rings) with a few of the slots being saved for a rainy day.

This. We're getting more ring and weapon slots, both of which were VASTLY needed just due to how many jobs keep getting added, and because you need 2 rings for the ring slots, which add up really quickly when leveling.

• For weapons, that's 31 slots due to 20 battle jobs (18 currently), 3 gathering jobs, and 8 crafters.
• Helm/Chest/Arms/Legs/Feet is divided between Fending/Healing/Casting/Aiming/Scouting/Maiming/Striking/Crafting/Gathering with BLU always behind, so that's 10 slots taken up for those.
• Accessories are Fending/Healing/Casting/Aiming/Slaying/Gathering/Crafting, with NIN sharing Aiming with the physical ranged, and all other melee sharing Slaying. That's 8 accessories taking BLU into account.
• Rings however are DOUBLE the amount of space of other accessories due to equipping 2 of them, so that's 16 slots taken up for Rings by default.
• Adding all this up when gearing up and holding onto new gear when leveling jobs, and only weapons and rings are in danger of being overfilled while leveling/gearing. This is taking into account if you just work on one group of jobs that use the same gear type at a time.

Oh okay, thanks for the heads up! Thought it was just for the rings.

I think it is insanely short sighted of them to keep rings as they are. It does nothing but serve as Armory bloat when each job has to equip TWO of the same item style.

Just adjust the rings to be twice what they are value wise and only need one equipped, or just delete a ring slot for the stat squish.

I don't really care that belts are gonna be removed but when they mentioned the reason I just rolled my eyes.

Yoshida actually addressed. They originally considered doing precisely that but found a lot of players like glamour the individual rings, and thus opted to expand the ring inventory instead.

I am one of such people and am happy I'll be able to glam both of my hands and glam the rings separately.
For example some rings look better on a finger wrapped around the trigger (MCH) and some rings look better on the offhand.
Most classes are right handed, but some are left handed (DRG) so it is useful that if I only wanna wear one ring I can move it between hands as I wish.
Also, some gloves are asymmetrical so being able to choose which ring I want to glam on which hand is very helpful there to.
Etc.

Yes, 15 of them will be allocated to rings (because you have 2 ring slots on your character but only 1 slot to store them in your armory chest).

The other 15 is going to the weapon.

The remaining 5 are being saved for a rainy day. Soul Crystals come to mind.

This. I don't glamour rings very often but there have been plenty of instances where they've helped bring an outfit together and a bunch of them have really cool designs (and I would say the same about belts going off of their thumbnails so it's kind of a shame we never see them in game but oh well). My only complaint with them is when I can't buy two of the same one to round out my ilvl because of their "unique" classification. It's a petty gripe though, so it's not the end of the world.

Rings needs a lot of adjustments, they didn't touched the slot because it was visible on the character.
But it's the most annoying slot of all equipment since you're basically forced to choose a ring you don't like or go with a lower ilvl ring.
There's many solutions:
-Add other rings with high ilvl.
-Allow us to equip twice the same ring.
-Get rid of the slot and just display the same ring on each finger.
-Rework SKS/SPS and some stats. Too much jobs are "all or nothing" SKS/SPS.

Respectfully, people like you are holding the game back. It's a ring. Something you really don't see unless you zoom in extremely close. You won't see it unless you're actively looking for it.

What you are doing is holding back the game for something less than probably 1% of the player base care about.

There's nothing "respectfully" about what you're saying. The game designers looked at how many players are using ring glamours and concluded that the system should be left in place.

Whatever you think of that conclusion, it is not the fault of people who just use the system.

My question would be, why do any of the slots have to go in the first place? Why does the playerbase have to give up things they've had since the start because the dev team didn't future proof their game? It isn't players that are holding this game back, it is the game's own damn engine, the foundation it was built on.


And don't tell me they're removing belts because they're not visible on your character anyway. Sure they aren't visible, but that has been the case for what, 7 years now? They're only going away because it's the only way they can expand our character's inventory, because the engine is barely holding together. It's the same reason why we can't have infinite glamour-dresser slots, adding more always brings this game close to imploding.

I wonder if the crafters/gatherers would flip if they cut half of the off-hand slots to add somewhere else. Uh, PLD uses it too but I mean... how many shields you'd need?

With little due respect, there's plenty of people, myself included, that like looking at our characters, and want to make sure what we're looking at looks appealing for whatever situation/setting we place our characters in. Taking screenshots at dramatic angles for one example.

That besides if the producer says "We see enough players use this thing so we're gonna keep it," it kinda pulls the rug out from under your argument of "oNlY <1% oF tHe PlAyErS uSe ThAt FeAtUrE."

I consistently glam a momorion ring onto my avatar’s right hand in most of her glams. I love cool rings in general. Plus, we have an actual wedding ring item. Jewelry is a thing people enjoy in almost every culture. We have a job specifically dedicated to making jewelry. They ain’t scrapping rings, but equipped belts being invisible no matter what you gear? We won’t miss them when stats are straightened out.


As for off hand, the devs initially had mages use off hand slots for wand/shield combos at random levels, but dropped it when Leviathan upgrades happened and BIS for both WHM and BLM became super janky with the EX stuff. That’s why there are zero wands in game after level 50. If there is anything I wish the devs could go back and do is allow us to glam a one-handed wand over a staff. But that ship looks to have long since sailed.

It's still kinda funny to me that they'll have gotten rid of belts twice. First from visuals in 1.0, and now from our actual gear, heh.

I think you're greatly underestimating the percentage of players that like to use rings as glamour items. You're essentially saying that the amount of people who care about rings is far, far below the amount of players that have cleared UCoB ("less than probably 1%" vs 4.5%.).

When estimating the amount of people who care about rings, keep in mind that a small change to the 2B leggings caused enough of a backlash for Yoshi-P to personally address it during a live letter, and ensuring players that the leggings would be fixed asap. I'd imagine the removal of a ring slot would be met with a similar reaction from the playerbase.

Except they're not. Dominant hands go to the back of thrusting weapons. The non-dominant hand is used for stability (aiming), while the strength of the thrust comes from the dominant hand. DRG even throws their polearm with their right hand.

Won't it better if they removed one ring off and for the "cast glamour" have the option of glamming it one on either rings or both like the glamour dresser does? Having more inventory space would be nice.

Separate glamours on the same gear? That's blasphemy! (Or, you know, something glamour enthusiasts have been asking for for years.)

I still wish they'd just tie the glamours to the job, rather than the gear. For example: I for one would like my DNC to look completely different than my BRD/MCH. However, since they all use the same "aiming set" they all have the same glamour.

The ability to have a 'glamour slot' like that (second ring slot but only having one actual piece of ring gear) sounds neat but would probably require more work behind the scenes to get it working.

While rings do bother a bit (it's always slightly annoying to be decked out in a full set of a certain sort of gear for example except for one ring because they're unique but two slots), and even though I find rings to be ugly glam wise, I think it's good to keep in the current system for people that do enjoy it.

It wouldn't be "like the glamour dresser does", though. The dresser asks whether to apply it to the right or left ring because you are wearing a right and left ring, and it needs to know which item you want it to stick the glamour to. It's the gearset doing the work of remembering which hand the glamour (or rather the ring it is applied to) should be placed on.

The game's item data isn't coded to handle more than one glamour on a single piece, thus it'd be impossible to tell the game to glamour one ring one way while glamouring the other ring a different way unless they're separate items.
And I severely doubt they're interested in trying to fiddle with how the item data is setup lest they break their database this late in the game's lifecycle.

If anything, they should axe part of the off-hand tab. We get 35 slots when at max (even including WHM & BLM wands) you'd only need 15~ ish. Could easily shave of 10-15 slots from there and no one would bat an eye.

A better option would be giving the ring slot a toggle similar to the visor option for headgear, that swapped hands.

I'd like to see the main hand tab become the battle jobs tab, and the off-hand tab become the crafting/gathering tools tab.

That might be the better option, if toggles weren't such a premium.
They've said that they can only add so many "toggles" to your character, similar to how they can only mark so many mounts as "account wide," and right now the three we have are /visor, displaying weapon, and displaying hat.
People have been asking for more for a long time now, but they've said it's not something they can do with the current engine unless something else gives.
