In game phishing activity.

This is a PSA to players to beware of suspicious PMs you may receive in game linking you to phishing sites masquerading as the official forums. I personally have received multiple messages over the course of the past few months.

Example:
{{edit: removed username}} >> You're Invited To Our 300M Raffle Giveaway Starting In 15Mins, Post A Number 1-30 On The FFXIV Forum Thread Or Help Others That Need It By Bumping The Post Once: {edit: removed suspicous link}

If you visit the site, you will see a carbon copy of the official forum but it is all a fake and I presume designed to steal your final fantasy login credentials.

We have a way to flag suspicious RMT activity but no way to flag users for 'Phishing' and I believe with this should probably be added as an option for the Reporting feature.

^^ this. Also, a new thread of this crops up like every two weeks, all from new-posters - I'm convinced this is some intricate baiting scheme.

Yeah, I'm thinking this may be the case unfortunately.

Sorry, it kept auto adding the stupid [ url ] tags, so i just put it in quotes to bypass it trying to make a hyperlink

No, fully remove the link.

This scam has been making the rounds for YEARS. Sadly it must be working or they'd have given up by now..

Done. :p Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't really think that through.

Thoose are usually accounts that have been logged into not by the creator of the account so try to look them up on the lodestone and maybe consider reaching out to someone in their FC (If they are in one) to have them know what is happening.
I've done the same thing aswell but there's some cases where noone of the respective FC members have been online so not much more i could do there..

Also remove the specific name from the original post. If it's an actual person you received the message from, they are most probably a previous victim of the scam.

If you whisper/tell me with any link of any kind you're getting reported for rmt.

Funny that you mention it, I got this exact same whisper at like 2 AM and had to double check on the official forum. The name seemed somewhat trustworthy as well. Luckily, I reported the player.
