Just a thought but who here would like to see some of our mounts fight along side us in combat like our Chocobo does? If so what ones would you like to see?

Ones that make sense. Like perhaps the Gabriel mount, or some of the collectables (Lanners, Wolves, Horsies).
Battle Tiger. Seems only logical with the armor and big, pointy teeth. It even has a large metal horn on its head to headbutt things with.

As I understand it SE did consider such an idea back during ARR's early development but only got around to implementing the Companion system with the default Company Chocobo, as they probaly considered expanding it to all mounts as utterly unworkable (especially as some mounts are literally nothing more than non-autonomous or sentinent vehicles, or mindless animals).
Sadly I don't think SE are going to do anyhting more with the Companion System, as the GC Squadron and Trusts have all but replaced it.
I've been wanting our Magitek Armor from ARR to be a Companion for SO LONG!!!! T-T
I would adore fighting along side an unpiloted Whisper A-Go-Go <3
True, but SE are basically turning away from open-world content, and what there is which is otherwise expected to be run with player parties (A/S/SS rank Hunts), or they provide npcs to help you anyway (solo story battles), and what is left the existing Companion Chocobo is enough.
Would I like to see more Companions? Of course I do, I would love to have the old 1.0 Path Companions return, but again the Trust/GC Squadron has all but replaced them in instanced content and the Companion Chocobo in solo content (the later evidentally by Yoshi's own statement on the subject) so alas I do not see them returning.
I wish my mount would mount me instead.
All mounts would definitely be a pipe dream.
But I'd like to think they could expand the companion system a bit.
Maybe introduce Beast Tamer as a limited job that uses the companion system.
BST would have the ability to tame certain mobs to add to your companion roster, and BST itself could call them in instanced duties, probably with special command skills. But outside instances, you could call those companions as any other job just like the Company Chocobo.
It would be a neat way of adding a limited job that also contributed to the wider game experience, instead of being entirely isolated.
The Tank would be funny
I just wish I could choose which chocobo was summoned. I would use the Legacy Chocobo in a heartbeat if I had the choice over my GC Chocobo.
Like Seraphor said, I'd be interested if they had some sort of Beastmater limited job (they already exist in Bozja, so why not) and use the trust system in older dungeons to train them or use fates and such. Not sure how realistic that is with the code but i'd love something like that.
Let me bring my Cavalry Drake out for some fun. It already has full combat animations, since they show up as enemies all over the place.
I wish you hadn't quoted it so I could forget I read it.
I'm in the minority here, but I like it the way it is.
I'd like to have the Tyrannosaur as a battle companion.
Or what about....retainers. I recall reading 1.0 gave you a companion adventurer but it was replaced with the chocobo for 2.0. I think that could be fun
I would honestly just like to see a dyable Regalia. =)
I think mounts you interact with in game would make great companions, like Ehll Tou. However, I find myself really wanting my fat cat to wear all the bardings, so that would be nice too.
I feel a little bad for our magitek armor friend who basically ceases to exist in the story after you get the mount quest reward after Prae.
Or maybe a option to glamour our Chocobo would be nice, like the way we can change the SMN Egis into Carbuncles
You'd only ever need the Great Vessel of Ronka (but I'd probably like the Fatter Cat, too. Its chief weapon could be Super Blep).
The one time they got asked about this was some time back during HW's cycle; it was asked about adding other companions like a dragonette. It was their usual answer of "we're not even thinking about it" with a side-explanation about how they'd have to animate the new companions (to be different from whatever's already there, for some reason) and add a new and separate leveling system (don't ask, they hardly elaborated on it). I couldn't find this exact interview even if you asked me, I'm not an encyclopedia of every interview they've given.
It seems like they are perfectly content to leave chocobos as the only companion; it having fulfilled its purpose as a crutch for what little open-world content there is, and seeing no point of further attention than a ostricken to paint and dress-up. After seeing Squadrons and Egi glamours, this is hardly surprising.
I've wanted this since ARR when we got the Magitek Armor mount. It probably isn't worth putting in all the work to make it happen given how little overworld content we do, though.
As much as that would be cool. too much work wouldn’t be able to fit that even in an expansion like patch. Though if they added like 1 or two options that wouldn’t be too bad but then again that’s why they make barding “Your just gonna have to get creative with that”
Theoretically, if they did something like this... would you have to level each of your companions separately? Or would they level together like SMN/SCH?
I imagine it'd be much easier to have it be a universal level and you'd essentially just be swapping out the model unless they wanted to make it filler content like leveling Trusts. Rename the abilities to remove the Chocobo flavor text to more generic terms and use mounts that have corresponding models with pre-existing battle animations (drake, elbst, wyvern, all the tank mounts etc). I haven't counted but I bet it'd actually be less animations to work with as well since I think companion chocos have one or two more unique animations than monsters do.
