Hatching-Tide 2021

Hello everyone, thanks in advance for any and all help.

I notice that usually Hatching-Tide starts exactly 12 days before Easter for that year. But with the Moogle tome farming and 5.5 on the horizon, plus no announcement of Hatching-Tide this year, do we have any official confirmation of when it will begin?

My wife is chomping at the bit to get the rabbit-suit she missed last year.

I'm guessing it might either be delayed or combined with another event like they've been doing recently. We'll have to see. Hopefully it's not too far off from Easter though. It might come after 5.5 releases too.

Just as a note since your join date is so recent, event rewards from previous years are not available to earn when that event is run again in subsequent years. If your wife wants an event reward from a previous year, she will have to purchase it from the cash shop. That said, generally event items from previous years go on sale in the cash shop once the current year's event starts so that would presumably be fairly soon. I'd imagine even if there is no Hatching Tide this year then the past items should still appear in the shop with timing as if there was.

Worst case scenario it's added to the cash shop when the event would normally occur, but if it's like the Witch broom Halloween Mount or werewolf costume it shouldn't be exorbitantly priced, still sucks but it definitely wont be priced like a Odin or Peacock mount at the very least.

Thank you for the replies everyone! We figured it would be a cash-shop item, and the speed at which my wife will purchase it may rival some F1 Cars.

As for join date being so recent, I've been playing for years, just decided to join the forums finally however. :)

They surely can't keep doing this forever right? I love seasonal events and it's awful that they've been combining them, specially since they don't double the rewards to have a kind of reward for each event. I know it's free content but this cutting of corners don't sit well with me. They're supposed to be on track already right? Hopefully they don't cut any more events.

I hope not, but until there's some actual normalcy in the world I wouldn't expect anything more for the foreseeable future. That's my opinion though.

Well the event started on March 30 last year so expect a mogshop update with last years prizes next Tuesday.
As for if the current HT event will start then? I fear it unlikely since Easter is that following Sunday and we probably would have already had an update on it if it was coming within the next week or so.

I suspect a lot of development time for seasonal events is taken up by the decision to hand decorate each of the three starter cities and the various housing zones. It's different each time.

Settling on a base design that is reused each year seems like an efficient approach to me - and would hopefully allow for more meat and rewards for the actual seasonal event quests themselves.

Are you sure? Maybe some things move around but I'm pretty sure decorations turn up in the same places every year. Maybe it depends on the holiday.

I also remember someone talking a while back about having looked at the game models of the cities and that all the event decorations are permanently there waiting to be switched on and off - which doesn't rule out them being moved around in the meanwhile, but doesn't sound like they start from scratch either.

The Moogle tome event has run concurrent with other events in the past, that its running now is no indication of if another event will be run or not so don't let that get you down. Also, for many events they tend not to announce them until the week (sometimes weekend) before the event starts.

At this point in time there's no reason to believe its cancelled or combined. Just wait and look for the announcement.

Maybe the chicken run fate returns?

It really is quite annoying. I’ve made my peace with the fact that I can’t wear hats as a Hrothgar. But why keep making hats as the main reward knowing a large portion of the player base can’t use them?

This is now available in the cash shop if you missed the announcement after you originally made this post.

Since there's been no announcement one way or the other regarding this years' Hatching-tide event, I'm leaning toward the possibility they simply forgot about it or decided to just skip it... or both. While seasonal events do break up the monotony of waiting for the next content release, the fact is in recent years the quality of events in FFXIV have been lacking and that's even before the pandemic started. It used to be that one would complete a small questline that required a reasonable amount of investment of time and effort by players and culminated in a well-earned much desired reward one could show off, but now it's just a one-and-done quest with bare-bones investment followed by a couple weeks of nothing more to do. While it would be nice to have a Hatching-tide event this year, if they're just gonna half-ass it like most every other seasonal event of the last 3 years, why bother?

Yeah, I'm starting ot think they're not going to be doing the event this year for some reason. I thought we'd get something from the live letter either during or posted after it was over but I haven't seen or heard anything about it.

>No new Ultimate
>No new seasonal events

How hard is it to replay last year's event if you don't have time? Ah no, you prefer to sell it on the Moggstation

I don't think they even bothered to change our avatars/names for April Fools this time too.

They could have at least toggled the decorations on.

I'm really heartbroken that we didn't at least get the decorations turned on. It's just a push of a button isn't it? Not even an apology or explanation in the live letter.

yes the decorations are always somewhat slightly different every year iirc.

On the other hand, I've heard that they're all there overlapping each other if you look at the zone model data. So maybe they get tweaked each year but the basics are permanent.

Unfortunately I think the Easter event was just another casualty of the pandemic delaying SE's development schedule so much they've had to start sacrificing things in order to get the development of the new expansion and the next content patch out in time (most SE staff are working from home like most people around the world which has naturally caused headaches).

Like the Halloween event last year, it's unsurprising the Easter event was not run this year in order to devote resources towards getting patch 5.5 out, given SE is a Japanese company and less than 1% of Japan's population identify as Christian, so sacrificing a Western religious holiday was always going to be more likely than sacrificing for say Little Ladies Day (based on a real-life Japanese cultural event). It's just pragmatism.

It also doesn't help that most of the game's events run in the first half of the year, to the point it's almost like there's a new event from January one after the other til about August with the Rising, then it's just the Halloween event, Christmas and the New Year. So some event trimming was always inevitable to provide the development team a bit of breathing space, and the pandemic was probably the tipping point.

While I'm not personally too bothered by it, I do find it a bit strange that they didn't at least acknowledge they weren't going to be doing anything. I mean, they just had a Live Letter, they could have taken a couple minutes at the end to mention it.

Isn't it just a generic spring time event and not strictly an "Easter" thing? I figure it can happen any time in the spring time.

Personally, I don't really care too much about seasonal events anyway. Egg themed junk for the armoire wooo! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It is typically available around the Easter holiday, but this year is clearly different. If it's happening at all it will likely come with the next patch. Anywhere between April and May would be fine. It doesn't need to be right now, even though it typically is. "Spring" is a good enough time frame considering the circumstances.

Disappointed they didn't put previous years items on sale, when they added the items from last year.

I was surprised by that too. It seemed really odd to me.

They may combine it with something else again as they did with Valentine's Day and Little Ladies Day. Not every country is still fully operational yet and still following COVID guidelines. I mean look what they have had to do with FanFest.

I don't work for a game company but I do work for a US-based company that has clients internationally and if this is their outlook, they need to do better. The have players all over the world. And for something like Easter or Christmas, it's not just the religious holiday side. Many people celebrate the secular Easter Bunny or Santa/presents side and ignore the religious side. We give them way too many passes being a Japanese company when they play favorites with Japanese players, but if they want to work internationally, then they need to consider everyone they're serving.

And regardless, if they are cancelling, they really should say something.

It's likely that Hatching Tide has fallen foul of the delayed schedule due to the 5.3 delay. In the original development schedule set out early in Shadowbringers' development cycle, 5.5 would have likely been around February so it would have made sense to schedule work on this year's Hatching Tide so that it could be patched in with 5.5.

The shift in schedule after COVID delays would have screwed this up and they likely wouldn't have been able to move it up in schedule to go in an earlier patch. At that point it's a choice of either having the event late or cancelling it.

I do agree it would be nice if they told us which and the Live Letter would have been a good place to do it. The fact that they didn't doesn't give me much hope for a late event, sadly.

If they don't do the Hatching Tide event, I would of just been happy if they only decorated with last years decorations, and no event with it.
