Am I just blind or are tanks really not allowed to allocate DH to the 515 relic? O.o

Hiya, apologies for being a bother. I just recently finished my GNB relic weapon and am now working on getting my Pld one and I recall that when I was doing my GNB relic, I was not given an option to allocate DH onto the weapon so I instead just chucked SkS onto it after I finished Crit and Det. Did they really make it so you can't allocate DH onto tank weapons or did I just overlook something? If DH really isn't allowed, should I stick to slapping max Crit and DH and using the leftovers on SkS or should I go with Ten instead?

Just wondering since I found it odd that with this relic, I was not allowed to use DH at all when all previous relics (well SB's mostly since I think we still had accuracy in HW) allowed for it? Seems really odd to limit the relic like that.

Afaik even Stormblood/Eureka relic for tanks and healers couldn't get DH outside of melds.

Every gear released since Stormblood for tanks and healers doesn't have any DH (Accuracy as you guessed it right). DH is more or less an indirect DPS role stat similar to tenacity and piety, but still gain its effect when melded on a tank or healer gear... it's wierd.
BUt yeah, you can't get any DH on your relic from 515 on, because SE never intended to give it to tanks and healers. It just so happens that it's the "better stat" for them to meld.

Don't get confused, there is hope they will fix it next expansion... or the next after that /s ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As for that current stats, go for as much SkS as you still gain from it, the rest in Tenacity. If you would go too fast, just Tenacity! It doesn't help you if you are too fast on your GCD (i.e. on GNB faster than 2.39/2.38) that you would have to clip to keep your rotation rolling. Clipping is a bigger dps loss than gaining Tenacity.

Direct hit was introduced in stormblood, it replaced accuracy which was on a lot of gear, particularly tank gear as tanks used to need the most accuracy due to frontal attacks having the lowest hit rate. Parry (which became tenacity) and piety were already exclusive to tank/healer gear so no changes were needed but accuracy was everywhere. Rather than go back and change direct hit on every piece of tank/healer gear pre-stormblood they opted to just not lock direct hit to dps and instead just stopped putting it on gear going forward, obviously not considering the fact that it would become the meld of choice due to the high damage scaling compared to other stats.

so naturally the zodiac and anima weapons had access to the stat as at the time accuracy was a viable stat choice and again they couldn’t go back and change that. The random stat allocation in eureka could not be direct hit on tank/healer weapons and now it isn’t an option for resistance weapons either.

It's because direct hit is the damage dealer specific sub-stat, same as how tenacity is for tanks and piety is for healers, direct hit would likely be role restricted too but the stat it replaced was on all gear historically so they didn't bother.

I do kind of wish tenacity and piety weren't restricted either, mostly for consistency, but also for making stupid meme builds.

DH was never meant to be a tank stat and only WAR "benefits" from it via IR because the team wanted to further nerf Berserk without actually turning it into another FoF. They honestly should have improved Tenacity and made DH a DPS exclusive stat. DH is over-rated with how variable the damage can be and having 1k-10k damage difference is not fun. Stick with Crit because its always good to have.

I have two major issues with this. First, if you want DH to be a DPS exclusive stat, then Tenacity needs to be an equally desirable stat. Why are you punishing people for picking an underrepresented role? Second, if you want DH to truly be a DPS exclusive effect, no tank should ever have access to it, WAR included. Stick with Crit, like you said. This selective, inconsistent, preferential treatment is what I dislike.

At maximum DH you can slot in BIS gear, you get 24% direct hit or an average increase of 6%.

At equal amounts of Tenacity, you get 4.3% damage, defense, and healing.

At equal amounts of det, you get 5.8% damage and healing.

If we only consider the 147 you can apply after maxing Crit and Det, it's

.4% damage/def

2.4% DH or around .6% damage average.

Even if DH only gave you an edge of 1 extra damage per second, players would still pick it over the alternatives.

This much is easily fixable: change Berserk's effect to "Increases damage dealt by 25% and guarantees that all attacks are critical hits."

Then they can restrict dhit to DD jobs without nerfing Berserk.

You would also have to adjust tank and healer dps up to compensate for the loss of DH.

I'm sure the role currently with the least impact, similar job design, no fight mechanic difficulty, auto resolving passive tank mechanics and half potency attacks will enjoy the last shred of dopamine from seeing !! on their piddly attacks turn into invisible % boosters and pointless passive mitigation in their already overloaded mitigation kits.

There should be *more* viable substat options, not further restrictions on who can have what.

Funny story, the 515 Augmented Law Order shield (515) is actually better than the Edenmorn Shield by a small margin. The 480 head back in 5.3 is better than the 500 head for Pld, Drk it's situational.

I don't think they'll change Direct Hit's place in the game. They advertised the addition of, "Direct Critical Hits!" as being the new thing brought about by it, and that they would be even stronger than normal critical hits... Stormblood launch day arrives, and Direct Critical Hits are only as strong as old crit maximums at 60 before Direct Hit's introduction.

But now that the playerbase is used to seeing the, "!!" next to their damage when DCHs happen, they won't want them to go away.

It kind of grinds my gears that since Tank and Healer can only get it through melds, outside of abilities, you can't see DCHs in content where your gear is synced(unless you keep an old set around for old content). Why make the less appealing jobs less fun, if their goal is to get more people to play them?

They basically don't let tanks or healers have it on any gear so that it's easier for them to ensure that tanks and healers are weaker than DPSes regardless of scenario(unless said scenario is DPS dying constantly). You can get some proportionately crazy DPS sets on tank in the <=60 era of gear for those levels, and put out quite the numbers comparable to DPS. It's a shame they only care about the fun DPS are having.

Personally I'm of the mind that they should give every tank a forced Direct Crit ability, similar to Reassemble on MCH(or IR on WAR). Just like, make Carve and Spit auto DCH. Make Sonic Break auto DCH. Idk, maybe tie it to proper mitigation use or setup a trigger like, Sheltron blocks an attack, Shield Bash potency is quadrupled and auto direct crits afterwards.

I'd be cool with them just removing Tenacity and replacing it with Direct Hit.
