So the other day I was running an Alliance Raid roulette and a member of another alliance was just spamming ascii emojis with sound effects in alliance chat. Can I report them? Or is that not offensive enough? It was really obnoxious that's for sure.

In the end reporting people for stuff like that person ally is a waste of time since you will never know if they got in trouble unless you know them. So what is the point? Yes it is reportable if you keep spamming the same thing over and over again, a text emote also can e going as /poke /poke /poke or whatever and if is a custom text emote that say the same again and again and again.. or combat macro you keep flooding public places with such as /shout /yell /tell /say /n then you can also be reported.
Same goes with stuff that show no text as well, eg. heavy skill spam in populated areas... like holy... or anything of the likes that produce a loud sound and more.... bards can be reported too if walking up to another bard and just keep on pressing random buttons to disturb that persons playing and being annoying to those that listen.
In general, there is some low lifes that think it is cool to do such thing to irritate and provoke people with... and trying to ruin possible content for others... in it sort under that catagorie as well, harrashment/spam/flood/obstruction. -

Ok, thanks. I was just going to blacklist them, but they weren't in my contacts list. I'm not sure how to manually enter people's names for the blacklist. I would assume it's /ignore (player name). Anyway thanks for the info.

If its used more then 3 times in a row, its reportable, even if it is a combat skill. So 3 glares in combat. Report them and the GM can throw a strike for it.

Technically, it's reportable.
Personally I would feel bad at the idea of causing another player to potentially lose an account they've invested a lot of time and effort in over something like that, though. Such spam is easily hidden using the ignore function and there's a chance the player in question was just fooling around with friends or trying to cheer themselves up after a stressful day. -

I can ignore the chat I mean I see gil spammers constantly. It's just overlapping bongos and pings get on your nerves. But I didn't want to report them out of malice anyway. I just wanted them to know that it was annoying and to just stop doing it.Quote:

Unless they were spamming it to the point that no one could communicate, I don't think there'd be much of a case. But I guess that depends on the GM. Personally, I find them obnoxious most of the time. Then someone posts one I find amusing and then a little faith in humanity is restored. But I would never report anyone for using these regardless.

For my own opinion, no you certainly shouldn't get reported for using an emote a few times in a public space. But for the incident Ardeth is describing, with someone being deliberately disruptive in a dungeon? That's what reports are supposed to be for, and if someone keeps doing it to annoy people then they should be aware that they're putting their own account at risk by doing so. That's exactly what the harsh punishment is supposed to deter people from - not that I think it should be quite so harsh for the width of application it gets, given the various horror stories about it, but this is where it would be doing what it's designed to do.
In this particular case, since they apparently stopped when asked, I wouldn't report them. But if people told them to stop and they deliberately kept going, then yes I'd be looking at filing a report.
I've been in a situation before where a party member just kept playing a pointless macro that pinged the party chat non-stop with sound effects, and they wouldn't stop, and it was awful. I couldn't kick them due to loot rolls, and I was the tank so I didn't want to abandon the duty and leave the others waiting.
