You dont need the story.

I dislike when people in this game give you so much trouble and say how they feel bad for you for skipping the story or say all these mean things.

I dislike the story because i find it incredibly boring. I mean it is a snoozefest. even shadowbringers. I skipped everything. every cutscene.

I enjoy the gameplay and MMO atmosphere. People need to stop with this "omg youre skipping story in a FF game HOW DARE YOU, im going after you and your family!!"

I enjoy the games gameplay, design, music, zones. every MMO aspect of it. I dont need the story and i am having a blast without falling asleep.

Please let people play how they want and stop insulting them for not liking the story.

I'm not saying you need to watch the story, but I'm curious how you know that the Shadowbringers story is a "snoozefest" as you put it, if you skipped all the cutscenes?

I feel the story has greatly improved since 2.4/2.5 when I first joined. Yes, the story did have a LOT of filler, but they have definitely improved on those issues since then.

Skips the story, goes on to call it "boring and snoozefest" .. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Let me clear it up for the fanboys. I tried this game out since 2015. watch the cutscenes, followed the story. it was boring as can be.

i created an account this month skipped all the nonsense i tried putting myself through years ago. tried watching the story/cutscenes in shadowbringers up to level 74. man it made me want to kill myself. the story is so boring. but its ok, i know you fanboys will lick the popsicle no matter what anyone says.

stop giving people crap for not liking the story. it sucks in my opinion. not everything is trolling or baiting. stop being ridiculous.

I mean, I don't have a problem if people don't like the story. For me:
ARR - Okay story. I think a good place to start after 1.0 was a flop, we know ARR was rushed and suffered issues because of it.
HW - Great Story
SB - Good story in places, meh story in others
ShB - Fantastic story.

And I've seen people with opinions varying to my own on the above storylines.

However, I am skeptical when people post contradicting statements like:
- You skip the story
- You find the story boring

How can you judge what you've not experienced? ARR stuff I know can be a drag, so I'd be curious at what point you decided the story was boring because it's possible you might like it after a certain point (and by your admission, you skipped Shadowbringers entirely; Shadowbringers is a huge step up in quality from ARR).

But if you don't play it for the story, that's your prerogative and I say fair enough.

But chances are in a very heavily story driven game and one whose story has received a standing ovation you'll likely find people surprised to hear this.

Now now, let’s clarify things I have no issue with people skipping the cutscenes. Some people aren’t interested in the story side of it and just want the mmo aspect of the game. There is nothing wrong with that, but to outright say it is boring isn’t accurate either. To you it is boring, to a good number of people it is worth the time investment to enjoy the story. And yes there should’ve been clarification that you’d tried the story before. It isn’t a fanboy attack if you make it seem like you just skipped to skip and then claimed story was bad and boring.

I think this calls for a "literally no one" meme.

I used to like the story but have begun tuning out recently due to the amount of focus placed on the likes of Zenos, Alisae and G'raha. I think it's fine if there's players who play FFXIV due to the PvE, PvP and other features. I'm hoping the development team use 6.0 to retire or kill off a decent amount of the current cast of characters in favour of injecting some fresh blood into the game's narrative. Variety is the spice of life after all and when every major character shares the same goals and beliefs it makes for a rather bland fantasy world.

You don't need video games either.

Oh boy, now we're at the part where people have nothing better to do then come here and harass other for liking something they don't. If somehow this isn't a troll post (I assume it is), there are people who enjoy the lore and story elements the most. There are some people who just like to do the content, and not really pay attention to the story. And that's perfectly fine. From what I see they're not calling you out for not liking the story, but either thinking you're a troll because your initial post is written like bait and theyve found you contradicted yourself.

The fact you've jumped to the conclusion people are fanboys who can't accept people disliking the story tells me all we really need to know. I feel that since they stated the current story will be finished with 6.0, and the new story start with 6.1(from the showcase they did earlier this month), we will be getting some new cast members. Though I feel that most of the scions(at least any that survive the end of this next part) will be a part of the story still, I'm hoping they play a slightly lesser role and new faces be brought in.

As for the villains...I sure hope Zenos stays dead this time...and his essence scattered to the billions of stars in the night sky never to be united again(same with the little shit who destroyed the Royal Menagerie...I want to take screenshots there again!)

No one is giving you crap for not liking the story, they're giving you crap for having an opinion based on a lack of experience. Okay fine you didn't like ARR, but it's absolutely not the same as what came after. You're judging a huge story based on your experiences with a small slice of it several years ago and are assuming everything that came after is the same. It's like saying "I tried grapes years ago so then I decided that I hate all fruit."

You don't have to give the story a chance. Just don't expect people to take you seriously when you say you dislike something while also revealing that you actively avoided experiencing it.

Just as an aside, so more people know:

You can still go to the Royal Menagerie if you don't currently have a New Game+ chapter in progress.

Simply start up NG+ on any point after 4.1 and before 5.4 (So Stormblood chapter 4 or Shadowbringers chapters 1-3) and the Royal Menagerie Attendant will be there again, allowing you to enter and take pictures to your heart's content.

You can't abandon the NG+ chapter while in there but you can suspend it if you need to for any reason (it doesn't change it as they haven't made a permanently damaged version of it... yet).

I ONLY play for the story and don't give a damn about anything else. No Story/No Me.
