spoilers for MSQ up to current patch 5.4

So I've been wondering why the Towers are only in the Source and not too in the First? The crazy guy said he wants to burn it all down....

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Each shard destruction was equal to one clamity on the Source. So if the Source is destroyed the rest of the shards will follow suit.

The towers are physical? objects I believe, and while Ascians can travel between the source & the shards, they are unable to transport physical items between them (see how Emet-Selch was surprised about how the Crystal Exarch had done everything he had done - he even admitted it's something he couldn't do).

So while technically the sundered Ascian, who is placing the towers all around Eorzea, could travel to the 1st and back to the Source... he wouldn't be able to transport/transmit the towers there himself. Not without using something similar to the fusion of the Crystal Tower & Alexander than Cid/Nero/CE used.

We do not know if Emet-Selch shared any of the knowledge of how the CE got the Scions & WoL to the 1st, or how he even got there with the Crystal Tower in the 1st place. I'm not sure he even knew the whole/full way it was done either. So we do not know if Fanadriel (can't spell his name) knows anything at all about how any of that was done, let alone have access to the technology/magic/etc required to do so as well.

All I know is I don’t buy fandaniel putting all of those towers around the world. They had to have always been there; we just didn’t notice them.

That was my assumption as well, in that they didn't just appear out of thin air. I would guess they were well in place hundreds or even thousands of years prior to this so the Ascians could use them as a "GOT 'EM!" moment when the time was right. Ascians are patient like that.

The towers could have been there all the time and hidden by magic, for a use in times like these. Or Fandaniel could have used creation magic to 'create' them from thin air - we know creation magic can be used for this kind of thing, just look at Emet-Selch with Amarout (spelling again. pfft). We don't know the amount of aether that would be needed to create them...and we know they do not need to be maintained (ie Amarout is still around after ES's passing).

Thing is we only really know of 4? towers (I have not gone around the game world to check) - 1 by Gyr Abania, 1 near Limsa Lominsa, 1 over in the forest, and 1 out East. Are there anymore?

Another point against them being old is that they do not look old. They use current Garlemand (sorry, my spelling is terrible today lol) appearance - note how the NPC's all comment on how they don't look Allagan or anything else, but they look like the empire's construction. This indicates recent construction / creation rather than something that's been standing around for eons. Although Garlemand's 'looks' could be imitating a time-period we don't know much about...which wouldn't be a terrible surprise, since it seems every era's big/major empire(s) were built/influenced by the Ascian's... so they could be just cycling through different looks each era/cycle.

I am sure that this issue will come up during the expansion... whether they were always there, or if Fandaniel used creation magic, or some other magic, to make/move them there - they might not have been created via creation magic, they could have been built somewhere in the empire... and then moved to different places via magic.

That's my guess too. The technology looks more Mhachi than Garlean or Allagan. I'm betting they're a couple thousand year old but buried and inactive til now.

There are six towers that we know of. South Shroud, Southern Thanalan, Outer La Noscea, The Lochs, Yanxia, and the Dravanian Forelands.

And like I said above, personally I think they look Mhachi.

The ship(?) we see in the teaser, where Fandaniel takes the elevator to get to Zenos, also looks Mhachi in my opinion. Noticed that after I got into Void Ark again. Nothing Garlean or Allagan looks like that. Hard to believe that this would just be coincidence. Really makes you wonder what the hell is going on, considering the towers also showed up in Othard. Weird stuff.

If it's creation magic, then the he would have no issue putting them on any of the planets. I wounder if it's more closer to Fandaniel moved them from the moon to the Source? It might be possible if the moon is closer to the Source then any of the other Shards.

90% of the First is still an uninhabitable wasteland. There very well could be towers out there somewhere.

However, it's just as likely that he might just be taking one shard at a time; or that ruining the Source will have some kind of horrible repercussions across the other shards. At the very least, with seven Rejoinings already completed, ruining the Source would mean that a completed Rejoining is more than likely impossible, even if enough sundered Ascians remain alive and interested in continuing the Paragons' work.

He still needs to travel to the other shards to set them up if that's the case, and they don't seem to do that lightly. For whatever reason, they need (or at least greatly prefer) a mortal host, and they can't take the body with them so they seem to stay put on a single shard for as long as they're using it.

I've changed my mind on this - I went and had another look at the towers, as well as finally having watched the trailer for EndWalker... I have to agree that they look more like Mhachi construction than Garlean.

I can see why the NPC's would think they look Garlean from a distance, however when you watch the trailer... what he's in is 100% Mhaci construction IMO. I'll agree with Exitus is that it looks extremely like what is seen in the Void Ark raid. I'd highly recommend anyone who's doubting... watch the trailer, then go run Void Ark.

Do we know how wide-spread the Mhaci empire was? Was it just on the Eorzean continent? If so, what are there towers doing out in Othard? Did Mhaci build them, or was this done by Fandariel, or maybe even the Garleans doing it in Mhachi style at fandariel's instructions? I'm really looking forward to getting the answers during 6.0... well, I hope we get the answers.
