Been gone for a little while, have a question

Title.

Took a break from the game during the content drought spawned by COVID, started playing again to get caught up on MSQ and do a few things here and there. I know some changes have been made to classes and such, but I was wondering if secondary stats have been changed at all.

Has there been any change to how secondary stats function, or is everyone still stacking Crit / DH for the most part? I'm still clinging to my dreams of Tenacity stacking being better for tanks than just LOLDMG.

No real changes there, no. The coming gear reorganization, stat squish and class balancing coming with EndWalker might do something to it but for now it's basically the same as it was.

That's all news to me.

Not surprising though, as I haven't been keeping up since my hiatus. Maybe I'll try and stay ignorant until they make the big pre-6.0 changes. Thanks!

IMO do we need secondary stats? No? Most games are moving from those to primary stats, which I think FF 14 should too.

Gives players that illusion of choice, except it's damage stats or gtfo, so not really a choice.

Because players tend to ignore anything that isn't "the best" damage gain and mock those who want to choose otherwise.

If players aren't using something, there's no sense in wasting development time on it. When it gets to the point everyone is using the same thing to increase damage, might as well just bake that damage increase into the base formulas.

For secondary stats to be interesting choices, none of them should be a direct damage gain.

This is like complaining in a car game that you've got to have tires.

I'll use tenacity and determination for my tank armor until they disappear forever never cared what anyone else thinks about my materia melds never will.

In WoW it was the opposite as versatility stacking was the thing so people became almost unkillable because tanks said their main stat sucked. No MMO dev has really figured it out except with diminishing returns to the point it gives nothing.

The only real way to figure it out IMO would require them changing the materia melds to be purely utility based in nature. At which point all that would matter is the gear...and then forcing certain "useless" stats on all gear. Meaning for DPS, you'd be seeing skill/spell speed on everything, and would have to choose between Det, DH, and Crit for the other stat. Tanks would have Tenacity on everything and you'd have to choose between Skill speed, det, and crit. Healers already have Piety on everything practically so they're pretty much already there. Of course doing it for tanks and dps would require some serious guts at this point.
